@Realnoize Agreed. I'm not actually opposed to paying $20 for one of these - they're still as good as they ever were (well, some of them anyway). What I am opposed to is supporting the production of versions that are demonstrably worse than the originals. Heck, FFIX had new performance issues and stripped out analog controls. Very frustrating to people who care about these games.

Of course the bug has been reintroduced. Square's legacy ports are universally hack jobs (with the key exception of FFXII Zodiac Age). FFIX on Switch had significant issues too which weren't present inthe original release or its PS Store re-releases. I wish folks would stop buying these ports until the company starts allotting a modicum of care to its legacy content.

I'll be passing on this, at least for now, based on the control issues. There's just no reason to require the usage of a single Joycon in docked mode, particularly when button-oriented functionality already exists in handheld mode. On top of that, the always-on gyro controls in handheld mode are mystifying. If Game freak wants my money, it'll need to avoid actively antagonizing me as a player.

What what what?! Cool, this is a title I wouldn't have expected on Switch in a million years. It got mixed reviews, but I really liked what I heard about it - an ambitious game that falls short in a few ways is always going to be more compelling than a successful one that plays it safe. If the port is good, I'll definitely be getting this on Switch.

What a delightfully odd looking game. To be honest, I'm a little more interested in this than I am in the full-fat FFXV. Hopefully it's not a mess of microtransactions - I always get a bit nervous when I hear that a game originated as free-to-play, since adapting that to a standard pricing model usually comes with some game balance quirks. Still, I remain optimistic.

I doubt this is an isolated instance - most devs with similar stories are likely uncomfortable being so open for fear that Nintendo might stonewall a later release on Switch. We receive an inherently biased set of positive testimonials - these both promote an indie studio's game AND improve Goodwill with Nintendo. That doesn't mean that Nintendo is crummy or underhanded towards indie devs, of course; the double Nindie presentation and their overall heavily pro-indie stance since the Wii U era suggest otherwise. I'd just imagine that with the volume of indie releases, some would fall through the cracks like this one.

@Hikingguy I'll concur with others and suggest just waiting for the remaster. If early reviews suggest that the remaster is a disaster (and nothing yet is suggesting that) then you can stick with the PS3 version, which is fantastic. I played it originally on Xbox 360 and thought it was fantastic, though it obviously falls short of what's become standard resolutions since then. I can't wait for the Switch version, though I might pick it up on PC also just for the sweet 60fps.

@TheGameSquid I agree - Dark Souls is indeed a series that benefits from the 60fps framerate, given its high level of combat intricacy. That said, it runs surprisingly well at 30fps, and that's how I initially experienced DS and DS2 on the Xbox 360. Hopefully my experiences playing DS2 and DS3 on PC at 60fps won't color my impressions of this new portable entry too much!

Ahhh, this snuck up on me! I'd feared that it would end up being a middling game like its predecessor The Legend of Legacy, but that fear proved unfounded. I'll be looking forward to buying this once I wrap up a few other major RPGs I'm currently playing.
