Given that games displayed on Switch 1 in handheld at 720p at best, yes, this is a massive upgrade. I've tested a dozen or more games and it's significant unless the game already had dynamic resolution prior to this update, in which case, you will probably only notice things like a crisper UI. The only negative I've noticed is that a lot of games didn't bother with antialiasing at all, and that is still very apparent (Trails Through Daybreak 1 and 2 for example; otherwise look fantastic).
@Nintendontyouknow there has been another patch since, on Nov 4th '25, I believe. It was available on the eshop just now and I bought it! I was pretty excited when I read it had gotten an unofficial Switch 2 update, but also noticed they had further issues after that one. I will update this comment if I have any issues. Historically, this series has been pretty great, if you're into the "three button press" style of golf game, and also not going for realism.
I'm a massive Star Trek nut, but historically, the games either are not at all good or don't appeal to my gaming tastes. Elite Force was the last one I frikkin loved. I will pick this up when it is mega cheap!
MM1 is ranked so low, I'm kinda offended. I used to be able to get through both 1 and 2 dying only a few times. I don't have nearly the same patience for games as I did back then.
I have been debating which Disgaea to start with for months. Last night, I finally convinced myself to snag Disgaea 7 Complete on the sale. It was the more expensive choice, but in the end, I wanted the most up to date one, I guess. I like it so far!
After watching Digital Foundry's video, I have discovered that I am not seeing the same issue at all, at least not yet. No swirly, heatwave-like distortions on distant objects, like objectively none of that. What they and others are seeing are definitely graphical issues of varying sorts and I'm seeing a significant upgrade to visual quality all around. Maybe I'm not far enough in the game to somehow trigger it yet.
I must have gotten it not too long after the commercials started airing in the States. You used to have to share hints and tips with your friends at school! I guess that probably still happens quite a bit, but that and Nintendo Power were the only way. No internet. No youtubers. Ahhhh, the good ol' days.
I have only booted it up to run around for a few minutes and my experience was very positive, noticing a significant improvement to resolution and framerate. I thought it looked like dog mess before, so I have been very pleased so far.
That said, something is definitely wrong if some people are seeing Wii U-like resolutions and hopefully there is a solution coming.
I agree with person above who says they need to stop advertising it as a 4K console. I also feel that upscaling doesn't count, even though I love me some dang upscaling... and I love my Switch 2. It's just not something that should be advertised as a 4K console, imho. It's not far more often than it is.
I got mine docked to a 60hz 1440p monitor and have found that more or less ideal.
As soon as I read that there were Switch 2 flags in the code, I shelved it, so I will be getting this. The upgrade fee is only mildly irksome at least.
For some reason, I think it looks bad. Is it supposed to play like real Tennis to some degree, or no? I swear I keep seeing the AI playing balls that were clearly out of bounds. I hope it's actually fun and people are enjoying it.
@cvrator I preordered the new Nyxi Switch 2 controller and it advertises that it has the wakeup feature and I feel like I've seen at least one other. At first, I thought it might be a proprietary thing for Nintendo brand only, but that's silliness. It's an important feature, imo!
@MeloMan this would be ideal, I agree. I also thought I might be the only person who liked C64, but I remember not being able to put that one down 'til I beat it.
Opinions! Plenty of valid ones. I actually just now read this review after commenting on another article that I thought it looked really good, but I understand now.
Are there English voiceovers that do not feature this person? I missed it.
I'm not sure why they ever promoted Switch 2 as a 4K console. Also, if they are outputting at 1080p, it would be cool to know if upscaling of any sort would be implemented. Maybe some publishers/devs are just not bothering with Switch 2 optimization. The hardware is capable of more in a lot of instances like this and I've started to be more choosey about which games I get for Switch 2. /ramble
@Moistnado subjective, of course. It's more like an animated TV show in a Choose Your Own Adventure-lite format. Not what people are typically looking for in a video game, no, but the writing in the Telltale-relevant games is top tier, imho.
Was playin Yakuza Kiwami 0 yesterday. In it, I discovered a naughty bookstore. MY CHARACTER then viewed a naughty video of a real human girl who I hope was over 18. Then, MY CHARACTER literally had a **** as the camera view zoomed in on a tissue box.
Trails Beyond The Horizon - Trails on steroids. Has like all the combat mechanics and characters from all the prior games (only a very slight exaggeration). Play Trails 1st Chapter if you've never played any of them yet.
Yakuza Kiwami 0 - 10/10 story so far, and I even love the English voiceovers. They are mostly very well-acted at the very least, imho. The game itself is fairly janky, but has a lot of charm.
Persona 3 Reload - I will give it a 10/10 if I can kill Junpei.
I've held off on Ys X to wait for Proud Nordics, and then waited longer when the Switch 2 version was announced. Looking forward to playing that on Switch 2! Also, I did not select Elden Ring, even though I will ultimately pick it up for the platform.
Thinking about it. I like a lot of the concepts I've seen demonstrated so far and it seems like it would be amusing in short bursts. I also have no issue with it alienating a certain subset of its audience and may pick it up just to support it in that regard.
Ya know... I love my Switch(es), but Nintendo's missteps are starting to irk me. If you're going to censor that game, I want them to censor that stupid foot fetish game's image on the eshop, 'cause I'm sick of looking at it whilst obsessively scrolling for hot deals. While they're at it, they could censor all the sleezy waifu shovelware titles, too. This is dumb and in certain regards, Nintendo is dumb. Signed, Old and Cranky.
@Mr_Persona that's a good point. I'm definitely going to boot it back up for the update. Too many dang games and I didn't give it a fair shake initially. I did like Splatoon 2 a bunch.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (28th March)
So far today, I've been playing Trails 1st Chapter NG+. If I did not announce a GOTY for '25, pretty sure that is mine. Can't wait for 2nd!
Re: Review: Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage (Switch 2) - A Great Port Of Sega's Deep Yet Approachable Fighter
$20 is a real nice launch price.
Re: Community: Which Switch 1 Games Benefit Most From Switch 2's New Boost Mode?
One funny thing, I didn't notice that Diablo 2 Resurrected used 3D models as opposed to sprites until this update.
And oh yeah! I totally need to try Ys IX!

Re: Review: Star Trek: Voyager - Across The Unknown (Switch 2) - Merciless But Ultimately Satisfying Survival Strategy
@Misima solid argument. I will get sooner.
Re: Round Up: The Previews Are In For Elden Ring's Updated Switch 2 Build
It will perform better than the original Demon's and Dark Souls did, which is plenty good enough for me!

No wake up feature is a definite dealbreaker for me. Good idea putting that at the end of the article, 'cause I wouldn't have read it otherwise lol!

Re: Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase February 2026: Every Announcement, Game Reveal, Trailer
Kyoto Xanadu looks amazing! It has side-scrolling sections? Looks significantly evolved from Tokyo Xanadu. I'm in.
Also, play Trails 1st Chapter if you like RPGs. Falcom has really upped their game with overall presentation, I feel like. Good stuff.
