@PJOReilly This got me thinking about grabbing it on Xbox but see you gave it a 6/10. Is that just because of said clunkiness and you still recommend it overall? Is the Xbox version any better or worse than the others?

I honestly could care less about character additions. More tracks please!

I was actually surprised this wasn’t on the original Switch as well but if they could only manage 30 FPS on Switch 2, I guess it would have been a slide show.

@PikminMarioKirby That’s not true. The full game is $70. Paying $90 gets you the equivalent of the booster pass that MK8 has. No need for that unless you want future characters and tracks.

Put me in the Crossworlds camp. Honestly, Sonic All-Star Racing Transformed was my all-time favorite racer before now.

Other than the open world (which I hate) Mario Kart has gotten stagnant and always just feels like the same game with different coat of paint.

Crossworlds is just so fun, snappy and refreshing. The gadget system is fantastic and the tracks are wild and inventive. It’s hard to go back to MKW and not feel a bit bored. Just my 2 cents.

Playing Sonic on Series X so it runs much better than Switch, but I absolutely love it… more than MK World. Hope it’s doing better outside of Japan.

@Airsqueeble I’ve been playing Hades 2 in early access on PC. Fantastic game and even better than the first but Expedition 33 is still far and away my front runner for GOTY. One of my favorite games of all time. So I hope it still gets the nod.

Playing Series X but this game is fantastic. Combat IMHO is actually very original with the enemy merging, necessity of charging shots, use of fire, etc. Brilliant stuff, great story and graphics. Easily an 8 and probably a solid 9 for me at least. Favorite horror game - even over Silent Hill 2 and the Dead Space remake - in years.

Rocket Knight just refuses to get a discount more than 30%. Urghh…

Not a new low but think I may finally grab Captain Toad.

I’m sure Mario Kart World will win even just with the shiny new Switch 2 thing in its pocket (no doubt it’s a great game too but SW2 excitement will surely help boost it).

But I think The Hundred Line Last Defense Academy is outstanding and is my pick. Great ideas, storyline and fantastic turn-based strategy. I don’t know if I’ll ever completely finish it with so many possibilities but I will have enjoyed every minute of it. If it weren’t for Expedition 33, it would be my overall game of the year.

Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo would be next my list. A top down Zelda-esque game that brings a smile to my face. The yoyo based gameplay is really fun and makes for some more complex battles and puzzles than you’d think.

Reviews are all over the place with this one (your sister site Eurogamer gave it a 4/5) and this one is definitely on the lower end of the scale. Anyway, I’m enjoying it from what I’ve played so far. I wouldn’t let this one review drive you away from it. Then again I am sucker for anything Tron though.

Find it odd that this isn’t available on Switch 1. Not exactly a title that would push its limits at all.

This game is absolutely fantastic and easily my favorite indie game this year. Glad NL finally reviewed it (amidst the Switch 2 takeover).

Into the Restless Ruins is fantastic and is my favorite game of the month (behind Pipistella, which is one of the best indie games of the Switch 1’s life span IMO).

GAME and GameStop should get married and have little inept game shop babies.

@Kraven Yeah, it is fantastic and NL actually did an interview with the developer so was kind of shocked that it wasn’t in this list!

The list kind of makes me feel better not being able to get one. That’s because 90% of them are games I can already play elsewhere. I can wait on the Nintendo games when I get to a happy place to be able to buy one but nothing is absolutely driving me to needing a Switch 2 right at launch.

I’ll be at home hugging my original Switch thank you very much.

Still a shame GameCube games couldn’t be on NSO for the original Switch. It’s really an artificial barrier. No way that the Switch couldn’t handle GC emulation (and controllers for it). But Nintendo…

In the meantime, at least I can still play the Xbox version of Soul Calibur 2 via backwards compatibility.

I think coming out around the same time as Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (my GoTY so far FWIW) took some wind out of this game’s sails. There were a lot of people talking about and articles written on Clair Obscur.

I’d actually like to disable Switch 2 news from my Nintendo Life feed. Yes, I’ve tried clicking just “Nintendo Switch” but still get Switch 2 articles that have nothing to do with the first console. Oh well, such is the price of not being an early adopter,

So I switched my bookmark for this site to be just Switch 1 news because I’m not getting a Switch 2 anytime soon. That and the site is becoming like 80% focused on Switch 2.

Anyway, seemed to be working until this article. This is clearly coming out for Switch 1 but doesn’t appear with that filter on. So is it unreliable to use that Nintendo Switch news link from your main site? Or is this article tagged incorrectly?

@Sylamp Yeah, seems to be sensitivity and feeling awkward on a large screen. This sounds like one where Switch handheld mode is a perfect fit.

If I hadn’t seen that damn Xbox review I probably would have bought it with the preorder discount. Oh well, it’s only $1.50 more.

Permanently reduced price but it’s been on sale lower on other platforms. In fact, it’s currently $19.99 on PSN. Hope we see that sale price on Switch soon. Then I’ll pick it up!

Just played the Steam demo after reading this review. Great game so far and a no brainer to pick up on Switch with the $15.99 preorder sale (which I got in on just in the nick of time).

Why not make a new game instead of remastering a game that’s only seven years old? Don’t understand the remaster thought process these days.

Loved what I played on mobile but the difficulty spikes were too much and drove me away from finishing it. I wish they’d go back and add an easy difficulty for the AA version. That’s the only thing tempting me to get this.

I’ve played the Apple Arcade version up to a point where it just got way too hard for me. So I’m actually looking forward to this … for an easy difficulty option.

I think it would have done better at something like a $40 price point.

Looked up this review because it’s coming out on mobile in a few days. Kind of funny to see the talk about the $40 price tag….it’s going to be $1.99 on iOS, lol!

Wonder if this will come out on iOS. That’s where I have the first one and it’s a perfect game to play here and there….like on the toilet. 😀
