Playtonic has opted to use the Gamescom conference as a means to show off all the work that it's done on Yooka-Laylee so far, and it looks like things are coming along quite well. We already got a new trailer, showcasing some polished environments and new transformations, and the game appears set to hit its release window of Q1 2017.
Our friends over at Eurogamer got a chance to sit down and play through an extended demo of the game that will be made available at Gamescom. We get to see a few NPCs, such as Molly Cool the molecule and Kartos, the God of Ore, along with an in-depth look at what the environments are like. It all looks excellent, and we can't wait to see what the final product will be like.
What do you think? Will you be getting Yooka-Laylee? Which N64 platformer was your favorite? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Wow, I didn't realize it was going to be so open. Still some things are looking rough, enemy deaths are kinda wack and those rings just disappearing without any effect. Still though, I'm interested
Looks really good. Can't wait to pick it up.
This looks terribly godawfully amazing. Sad to see rare get bought out all those years ago and the bear and bird gone from its platformer days... but I'm almost glad they did cuz this looks way more fun than any rare game. Microsoft can have the magic pagies. Cuz immabout to steal them back Bill! ...I mean Capital B! Revengence is mine!!!!!!
If they manage the rumored physical version, this is day one for me. I'm so excited to play this on Wii U!
There are some noticeable developmental issues I assume will be remedied before release. It's hilarious to note this game just got over half the funding of Mighty No. 9 when you consider how pleasant Yooka-Laylee is to look at vs. the infamous pizza explosions.
Backed the Kickstarter as soon as it went live. Money well spent. Chose the Wii U version of course.
Please have a physical release.
Looking forward to it! Any details about the release: price? Digital only?
Mario 64 is the easy answer for best N64 platformer, but I'll go with Conkers Bad Fur Day. Honorable mention for Mischeif Makers. What ever happened to Treasure???
This looks way better than I expected. Props to them, I can't wait to download this.
this video is better the wii u version ot at least what the wii u version looks like
Even as a day-one backer, I'll be mighty tempted by a retail version if they release it day one. Might give away my code to a friend and just get the disc if that's the case. This is shaping up to be the kind of masterpiece I need to have actually there, oin my shelf.
Looks good! I'm still a cold-hearted cynical skeptic after Mighty No. 9, but hopefully this one will pay off for its backers.
Hope it's the Wii U graphic.
I Love it! I want it! I also can't wait to play Rusty Pup!
This looks 9/10 at minimum, already.
@Blastcorp64 Mischief Makers was legit, love that game.
Remind me a lot of Wind Waker HD, though this one is obviously a step or two up in terms of richness in environmental detailing.
Can't wait to get my hands on this
Looking forward to this game, after Banjo kazooie " returned" on xbox 360 with Nuts and bolts i figured we would never seen this gameplay formula again ( not a terrible game just not a Banjo kazooie game, if they just used a different set of characters it would of been a lot better). I've seen enough to know il get this, as long as reviews don't say it's a broken game ( glitchy , frame rate, buggy etc) then it's pretty much a definite buy for me
Oh and favourite n64 platformer? Banjo Kazooie all the way. I tried tooie on the 360 and just didn't feel as polished, felt the level design was almost too open. You would enter a level, be able to do one mission then have to move on to find the next power up. Im sure il complete it one day though
Looks great, day one physical copy purchase given the choice. It even looks to have a dodgy camera - a perfect 90s throwback.
Cool
Give it to me now!
Nintendo should get behind this and start plugging it for their console.
Like many, I had no doubt about Playtonics ability, but this has completely surpassed what I expected.
Looks incredible, and it's a delight to say that.
sighs
My internet is messed up and I can't watch videos anymore without having to deal with constant buffering. (or set the resolution to 240p...) T.T
Steam version for me. Waiting patiently and trying to beat BT to sweeten the wait :3
Pun overload. Purchasing the first minute after launch.
I'll buy for Wii U, because it's the kind of game the begs for a Nintendo console, but if come to NX, NX it will be!
The environment looks so gorgeous, almost like Super Mario 3D Land with Chameleon form, but...
1. I wish the protagonist is Chibi form of human, Like MySims series. I prefer Chibi humans rather than Animals.
2. If this game released in Wii U physical retail, maybe i'll consider that.
Looks pretty cool! A pity that it probably will skip Wii u and go straight to NX instead. And seeing all the NX secrecy from Nintendo (and I presume Playtonic even doesn't have a development-kit yet), we could be in for a very loooooong waiting time!
What a sight for sore eyes...I am SO in! Okay, so we have our spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie...
Now, former Rare devs, we need one for Jet Force Gemini. No joke.
I'll wait here.
@Henmii The WiiU is definitely getting the game It's already been confirmed that Playtonic are doing the WiiU and PC version. Team 17(who make the Worms games) are doing the other ports.
This just looks better every time we see more of it.
Do we know for sure if that was the pc version? I'm guessing it was, but I chose PS4 for release.
Lol Kartos God Of Ore XD
@Dr_Lugae,
So they are saying. But they could make up their mind, since there isn't much sense to release it on Wii u anymore (Wii u is on the way out).
Looks lovely, I hope there aren't many issues with the camera. I really like how high up some of the levels were going too.
Haven't heard about Yooka Laylee for ages so it's really nice to see this and if it reviews well it will be a definite buy for me.
Love the characters and the settings are challenging and well done, but I'm really pout off by some of the NPC's animations and graphics. Kartos' animation as well as of the cloud were cringe worthy, IMHO.
Still, if they price it right (20 bucks top), I'll definitely give it a whirl.
