Re: Pokémon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl's New 'Grand Underground' Map Looks Epic

@anzzjam I've really enjoyed them. They make battles much more challenging sometimes, it makes team planning a nice puzzle to solve, and in some ways, I actually find it more immersive--it feels more like being a real trainer or gym leader. Practically everyone else in the Pokeworld is playing Monotype.

I started doing them in Sun, with Water Monotype, which is probably one of the easiest monotypes, Ghost for UltraMoon, Fighting for White 2 (still need to finish both of those), and Ice for Shield.

The Wild Area made a HUGE difference in Shield, with some simple weather manipulation I was able to have a full party of Ice Pokémon shortly after getting to the Wild Area. A few of 'em were duds like Delibird I dropped when I got better options later, but a lot of my core team got caught early on. It's super rare that Ice is even a viable monotype, let alone that you can a full team early in the game.

Re: Poll: What's The Best Dragon Quest Game?

I was introduced to the series with the Game Boy Color ports, and III is where I came to completely fall in love with the series. I think VIII and XI are my favorites. I still need to finish V, VI, and IX of the mainline titles.

Re: Feature: Every 2D Super Mario Game Ranked

alpha5099

Very glad to see that 6 Golden Coins made the top five. It's such a phenomenal game. I'm a bit biased, as it was my first Mario game (and my second GB game, after Donkey Kong 94), but it's absolutely fantastic and deserves to be rubbing shoulders with the likes of 3 and World like it is here.

Re: More Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity News Is Coming Later This Month

alpha5099

I'm really curious to see if other characters are available, even if just outside story mode. I like the idea of a leaner cast for a Warriors game, and the original HW certainly had an absurdly huge cast. But it also had a ton of great characters to play as (Twili Midna, Linkle, Yuuga, to name just a few of my favs), and I'd love to see at least some of them return for whatever this game's equivalent to Adventure Mode might be.

Re: Poll: Did The Nintendo Direct Mini: Partners Showcase Meet Your Expectations?

alpha5099

I was certainly meh on the first few announcements. Maybe someday I'll play Cadence of Hyrule, but I'm terrible at rhythm games, so who knows. And I'm definitely never playing that shooter or the WWE game.

My number one want was news on SMTV, and we got that. I wish we'd gotten more, some actual gameplay footage, but it's good to have a date now and to see more. And I'm thrilled about Nocturne, even if I wish it were coming out sooner.

I also wish we would've had Sakuna and Ryza 2 in the Direct, that might have made this seem a bit more substantive.

I recognize for non-Atlus fans, this was obviously low-impact announcements. A lot of this is just from lack of Directs. If these sort of short mini Directs were more common, there not being earth-shattering news in them would go over better.

Re: Guide: How To Make Pokémon Sword And Shield More Difficult (And Fun)

alpha5099

I'm a big fan of monotype, and one really cool thing about SwSh is that the Wild Area makes assembling full teams early on much easier, and it makes several types much more viable for monotype runs than they've ever been before.

I played Shield with an Ice Monotype team, which would be unthinkable in almost any other generation, but I was able, as soon as I got to the Wild Area (and as soon as I figured out how to manipulate the weather) to catch 6 ice types (or ice-types to be): Shellder, Swinub, Shover, a female Snorunt, Delibird, and Vanillite. Those last two didn't make the final team (I used the evolutions of the first four plus Weavile, Mr. Rime, Frosmoth, and Arctozolt--never traded over a Darumaka from Sword or found a Lapras). I doubt there will ever be a Pokémon game where I can as effectively make an Ice team.

Re: Fire Emblem: Three Houses Gets A Fourth House In The Next Wave Of DLC

alpha5099

I just finished up my Verdant Wind run last night, after putting 3H aside for a few months. I started my fourth run, which I intend to be Crimson Flower on Maddening--assuming this content is available on all routes (and is not a separate route unto itself, which I assume it isn't, as they describe it as a Side Story), I'll hold off on my new playthrough till this has come out. Plus by then we'll have the leaked new classes that these characters represent.

Re: The Outer Worlds Won't Be Released On Switch Until Next Year

alpha5099

I love Obsidian, and I'm really looking forward to playing The Outer Worlds when it comes to Switch, but I would've been shocked if it came out in 2019. There's no way they wouldn't've released a date by now if it was coming out in the next two months.

Better for it to come out later anyway. I'm still finishing up Dragon Quest XI, I have like one and a half more playthroughs of Fire Emblem: Three Houses to get through, and a new Pokemon game out in like three weeks, and Tokyo Mirage Sessions in January. I won't have time for The Outer Worlds till like March anyway (and that still seems like an optimistic estimate of when it'll be out).
