Fuecoco superiority.
Donald needs more love
They’re all really cute. Heck the grass type is so cute that my sister might break her water type tradition to pick the grass type.
I'll pick Donald Duck
Quaxly.
I hope the final evolution will be like Mighty Ducks.
Quaxly and Sprigatito. Since I will be buying both versions anyway
Fuecoco is amazing. HE IS A BEAN.
Liam go to sleep you're going to be worn out at this rate.
I would literally die for grass cat.
Not a fan of these ... but I'll probably pick the Duck unless the final forms change it up
My first playthrough will be with Sprigatito.
Love that cute leaf kitten.
I am torn between all 3 tbh. I wanna see their later evos before coming to a final decision.
Leaning toward the duck tho.
Always water starter for the first play through. But I think this time it will be this cute croco
The duck is my favorite and the fire one is growing on me but I’m not at all a fan of the grass starter
Anyway Sprigatito for me. I normally go with Water but this little critter just has pick me pick me written all over it.
Man, this is the first generation since probably Gen III that I like all three starters and I have a hard time choosing one. Though the fire one might be my choice this time.
I typically choose the one I find cutest (Sprigatito in this case), but for some reason I rather love Quaxly and it'll be my choice unless it has terrible evolutions. Fuecoco looks like it could have evolution potential though 🤔
Fuecoco all the way!
Hate the pompador duck. Bubble Bobble apple boi is funny. Grass cat is cute, might be my favorite, but I'm scared of the fan art that's gonna come from its evolution. I didn't care about any of the Sword/Shield starters, so they're off to a good start with these.
Fuecoco.
I think this might be the first generation where the grass type starter is my least favourite.
Grass/Ghost maybe?
Fuecoco is really dopey and goofy looking.
I LOVE IT ALREADY.
Maybe the grass type for me. I like it’s look
I love water starters best but I also want a cute starter and Quaxly is just too doofy. So probably Sprigatito which is super cute.
I may change my mind depending on all the evolutions, but it's hard to imagine Sprigatito won't remain nice looking.
I usually pick the fire, but I might go for Spirigatito this time. Btw, gatito means kitten in Spanish.
I’m tentatively going with Sprigatito, since it’s so adorable.
As it stands, Fuecoco looks really awkward to me, but I’m almost certain it’ll look better once it evolves. Quaxly looked very lazy to me at first blush (like if a Ducklett stole Mario’s hat and decided to follow Donald Duck), but its name gives me hope that it’ll be less generic once it evolves. I could see Quaxly growing unhinged and attacking windmills.
I always pick Water. Always have since Red.
But I do have to say how cute the cat Pokemon is. And I don't generally care for cat Pokemon. This one is adorable, though. I fear it having an abomination of an evolution like Incineroar though.
i will wait for his evolutions, before making a decision.
I always choose starters based on how their final form looks. I can’t choose until I see them. I’ll guess Fuecoco will have the best looking final evolved form. Fire types usually do.
I will be picking Sprigatito as I have always gone with the grass starters.
One is just a green cat, one's just a blue duck, one's just a red doofus. Obviously I'm not impressed with the creativity, but I do get that they are just cute animals. But that doesn't get me excited about them.
I could honestly pick any of them but I voted for the fire starter that looks like something out of Bubble Bobble.
The grass one is easily the cutest in my opinion.
Donald Duck superiority!
Always go for the grass starters, and damn this one is going to be amazing. I get the Grass / Ghost out of him, and those two are amongst my favorite types.
The fire one seem like he has potential, and i hope it doesn't become another freaking fire / fighting one.
Water starters rarely impress me, and this one doesn't do much IMO. It's still better than alot of others water starters, but it's still the lesser choice.
The grass starter seems like a second rate knockoff of Litten. Anyways, it's way to early to decide who I'm going with, I'll have to see the final evolutions first, before making a decision.
I’m picking the grass type either way because I’ve been a grass type ever since Black/White but I do actually like it’s design though
Fuecoco makes no sense, but it's the best.
I don't mind any of them though I like cats and grass types are my goto most often anyway so the cat-grass thing is the one I would go for sure even if it is a bit on the unimaginitive side.
Still it's not entirely certain I would even go for a new pokemon game. They are pumping these out in such a rapid pace I have a hard time believing this could be anything too special, at most I'm expecting an asset flip of S&S which is not very exviting.
I very rarely go the grass starter route - I usually prefer the fire starters - but Sprigatito is too cute to resist! 😻 Conversely, I'm not feeling Fuecoco, and Quaxly is too close to Ducklett for my liking.
Where's the option for "none of them because I won't be buying it" seeing how Scarlet and Violet looks just as bad as Sword and Shield?
these names are made of spanish words, as a spanish speaker
they sound off to for me
Water duck for me. The rest look a little weird to me. I had the grass starter in shield anyway so it will be a good rotation.
Edit: actually I had the grass starter in shield. Whoops.
For now, definitely Donald Duck. I'll have to see what their final evolutions look like, before truly picking any of them though.
I’m tempted to say Sprigatito but I’m haunted by memories of Litten evolving into a giant muscle-bound furry in Pokémon X. It was distinctly uncomfortable going into the options screen to stroke that thing to boost its affection levels. 😳
I actually like all of the starters this time around; even the fire type, which initially elicited a “what the hell is that?” reaction (many starters do), but like @Bass_X0, the final forms will ultimately influence who I pick, particularly after the really underwhelming final forms in Sword/Shield.
I love all 3, but we'll see when final evos are announced. I felt that way for SwSh and by final evo time I only liked the grass one. I skipped that one and Legends, maybe this one will drag my 30 year old butt back to the world of pokemon
Sprigatito wins over Bubble Bobble OC and... duck.
As of right now, Quaxly. That’s definitely subject to change though, as it usually comes down to the final evolution for me anyways.
I'm between Fuecoco and Quaxly. Sprigatito looks a little too generic. Looks like a grass Zoroa.
I typically go with fire pokemon to start, but that's usually because I found them to be the cutest. This time however, I'm gonna have to go with Spriggy. Kitties are my second choice after foxes. I'd need to see the evolved versions though.
Still unsure if I would get the game though. For a couple of generations, I limited myself to 1 pokemon game for each, but then Legends came out, and now I'm already overfilled with pokemon this gen. I should stop, but if they happen to bring in my favorite line (Fennekin line), then nuts to restricting myself.
The water duck looks like a sailor and his ability is torrent. It would be hilarious if it evolves into a pirate duck.
They all look half baked.
First time in a while that I've been swayed by the fire starter.
Oof, these do not look good. I've seen much better fakemon in the past few years.
@FailSecure89 In the picture with all three starters I thought it was wearing a pirate hat. (My eyes aren't the best.) Disappointing scrolling down to find otherwise. I hope you're right
I need to see their evolutions but honestly, I love them all!
I'm expecting Sprigatito to become a Sabre-tooth Cat and Fuecoco to become a snake/serpent to follow the fire and grass starter patterns.
I always pick grass. Even if its a cat....
Depending on the evolution, first game where I pick a fire pokemon as my starter. I'm usually a grass or water starter.
Have there been polls covering what people chose for every generation? I think, but can't be sure, that I chose Bulbasaur, Chikorita, Torchic, Piplup, Tepig, Fennekin, -, and Scorbunny
Team Donald all the way!
This is looking to be as hard a pick as Gen 7 was for me, maybe even as hard as Gen 3.
I’m always a water type first, and Quaxly will be no exception. He looks like if Ducklett decided to commit piracy and I love it!
And spaghetti names for all three straight out of the Random Pokemon Generator.
... I'll pass, thanks =/.
Sprigatito all the way - it’s too cute! Funnily enough, this made me realise I have never picked a water starter - I went with grass in Gen 2, 7 and 8, and with fire the rest of the time. I guess for some reason the water starter designs never appeal to me compared to the other types…
The duckling is cute, though. It gives off some serious Ducktales vibes, which is kind of awesome!
Callling it now: Quaxly’s final evolution will be a playable fighter in the next smash.
So amusing to me, as last week my wife discovered an old math textbook of mine from middle school. Had a lion themed grass lined named Bircub, Branclaw and Treeleo. Then this teaser showed off a feline grass starter.
We all had a good little chuckle..
I dunno why but these guys & this whole game gives me Sun and Moon vibes.
I am always going for the grass type........ tho i doubt this cat is gonna be as badass a Incineroar ,it looks so cute for that ! The other two also look promising !!
I'm very conflicted on this. Grass type are my favourites. But I prefer Fuecoco's design. I think Quaxly has the cutest name of the three.
I have a weakness for Pokemon with brilliantly stupid names. Quaxly all the way!
I play every Pokémon game with a monotype team (Legends Arceus was Flying, and great!). So I'll both wait to find out what secondary typings the starters will have (hopefully they won't all stayed single-typed like in Galar), and what the rest of the Pokedex looks like before I make a final decision. That being said, I'm extremely smitten with Fuecoco!
These starters are possibly the best since gen 1. Its close between grass and fire though.
Fuecoco for me. It fits the classic Pocket Monster look to a T.
I love each of their designs, but I think if I can only pick one, Quaxly is my choice Though, I would want to see their evolutions as well.
The fire croc will probably have the best final form, but I really like Donald Duck.
Elvis Duck is the right answer.
These look good!
Loving the duck but how could i refuse the Bust-A-Move Dinosaur?
This is the first time since gen 4 that I would be happy with any of the starters!
The cat is super cute but the fire croc has more potential to be badass. I usually go fire anyway, so that's my choice! The duck reminds me too much of that old, stupid Dolan meme for me to take seriously 🤣
strongest starter trio in a while
@Fath You new here? This has been the standard for Pokemon for the longest time. Get your head outta the sand.
Wow this is the first of ten Pokémon articles, get a grip Nintendolife!
My cousin and he's girlfriend (wife) said they like Sprigatito and my little brother said he like Quaxly while saying he may pick as starter Sprigatito instead, but for me atm all 3 starters are in similar likeliness so can't decide yet. xD
Plus I'm more in Scarlet's side atm even I bit dislike shorts having those small vertical stripes, but I more dislike Violet's shoes design in general, so. xD
@andyg1412
I mean what's wrong if Nintendolife make this article about upcoming Pokemon games ?
That's their job to report the things revealed from Pokemon Direct yesterday.
Sprigatito is too precious ╰(´︶`)╯♡
My little gatito : DDDD
Buying the game just for her. She deserves everything ; D
Have to admit though that the protagonists are ugly af. (-_-' )
@ame_kAngel you could edit in that second comment to first comment and then delete second one. But kinda yeah, but is only between little-medium ugly to me not totally.
I’ve been thinking about it and Sprigatito is the only starter that I even remotely like.
Fuecoco For me.
whats the betting Fuecoco is gonna be fire fighting
I can't think of any pokemon game where Fire isn't the default decision.
I like that the grass starter this time is something more like what the fire types would usually get. It's always herbivorous-looking plant monsters or lizards, which have never been a problem for me but this feels like a cool change to get something more predatory-looking. And yes, I know Rowlett was an owl and owls are predators, person who desperately wants to 'um akshually' me.
Normally, I get the Fire-type starter, but this time, I may go for the Grass-type starter. I know looks are not everything, but it's design appeals to me the most compared to the others.
Of course, I do plan to get all of them, now that I make enough money to where I can buy both games instead of one or the other. But I might start with the Grass-type starter this time around instead of my normal Fire-type starter.
None of them. Sadly after 9 generations, this is the first gen I will be sitting out. The game looks gorgeous and looks like its going to have potential, but it’s open world and I am not a fan of these types of games. I certainly wish nothing but the best and am hopeful this game will blow past SWSH but I am passing for the first time in 24 years.
I can't choose, they're just perfect! Normally I find it easy to pick just one, but GameFreak made it really, really hard for me this time xD
For fun, I asked my three kids which they'd choose. The two older ones (6yo and 5 yo) picked the grass cat immediately. The youngest (3yo) chose fire croc.
I'm personally leaning towards Fuecoco. He's giving me those Totodile vibes I'm living for.
No love for Quaxly from our family at least.
I don't know. I'm drawn to all of them in one way or another. Daughter and I will each get one and breed to trade. She likes the fire croc best.
They look cute, but at the same time they aren't very inspired. After all they are just another cat, crocodile and duck (I probably would go for the crocodile though). It doesn't surprise me though. We are already in gen 9 and there are tons of Pokemon. By now everything probably has been done: fantasy creatures, animals, in-animate objects. We now just get new cats, new ducks etc it seems. Thats also the reason why there are regional variations nowadays (although I do like that idea).
