Remember when we all thought that Nintendo was being unusually quiet on the news front? Ha.
Today saw the grand reveal of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, a brand new Switch-exclusive title in The Legend of Zelda franchise. As it happens, Nintendo isn't stopping there, as the company has already confirmed that the next slice of news for the game will drop on 26th September.
This news comes from the end of the trailer you see above (which is taken from the extended announcement trailer we shared earlier today). It doesn't give away what we can expect to hear, but it's not hard not to be excited.
If you haven't already, make sure to check out our gallery which contains 25 gorgeous screenshots taken from the game. It's looking pretty lovely, we must say.
Have you calmed down from the initial surprise yet? November's suddenly looking a little more interesting, huh?

can't wait to watch link and all the other champions just combust in a sea of guardians
So we will play to watch the sad downfall of the champions! This is going to be torture!
Part of me doesn't want to see more information about this game to remain spoiler free since I know I'm buying it anyway. Part of me is dying from hype and needs to see more. Pretty sure the latter part of me will win the internal debate.
It’s pretty rough, considering we know exactly how this game ends. I’m curious to see how they handle this narrative’s inevitable dark conclusion. Will each of the champions have to do battle with one of the Ganon blights and lose? Sounds rough.
Well, great. Great. If that's a Direct, that nigh-shatters Shantae's chances. And definitely breaks past Smash reveal patterns (should be this week).
@thesilverbrick Maybe there'll be an alternative 'good' ending if you play your cards just right, but it just won't be the 'canon' ending.
Gotta say this is the first time I've actually been hyped about a warriors game. What an interesting way to do a prequel! It fits perfectly
Couldn't be more excited! Hopefully, it'll have Split-screen multiplayer.
What does cannon mean
So are they going to be dropping news every few days or something as within 4 or 5 days we learned of 4 news games for the switch, and an Bunch of events for older titles. If so then may September never end
@KnightsTemplar it was a weapon used in ancient times that usually fired bombs or fire to hit enemy targets. It was also used in war and in some cases still is.
Really wish it had online co op and wireless local play.
@thesilverbrick or maybe we can have a good ending that years the universe of Zelda in two, cause we know that timeline isn’t convoluted enough as it is.
@KnightsTemplar It means something that is connected to the story, like something that is offcial. An example would be the Zero Escape series.
Each game has multiple endings, but only one of the endings is"Canon", meaning only one of the endings is the true end.
So that means this game fits into the Zelda Timeline, or rather, Breath Of The Wild Timeline.
Just to think a couple of weeks ago all we had to look forward to was Pikmin 3, 2020 is going out with a bang for Switch
So I am a little confused still whether there will be more news on the new hyrule warriors or on breath of the wild 2 on September 25th. The date does not clearly state that in the trailer. Also, this trailer could have been intended to release earlier like Mario’s 35th got delayed 5 months, so I wonder if that September 25th date is for breath of the wild 2 info (aka teasing bigger things here for the next one like Pokémon unite did with the Pokémon snap announcement) ...
Already preordered
Hopefully it won't have to many glitches, I mean with Corona and all. But we'll see!
Saturday is a strange day for an update?
Great surprise announcement...
Hyped for this.
I laughed, I cried. My body is ready. Nintendo has come roaring out of a summer long slumber. You love to see it.
@QueenKittenWrite love your work
"Next Update: 9.15"
THEY PULLED AN ATLUS ARE YOU SERIOUS
Yeah, i noted from the very first video you posted. I dont like the recycle of 1 announcement turned in several entries during the day.
@Wolf_Link
I'm fine with it. I originally missed this so am happy for them to draw attention to it in a separate article.
If I do decide to get this, it’s only going to be to fill in the gaps of the story of the first game and then that’ll be it. Wish they would’ve covered the downfall of Hyrule in one of the DLCs as a playable flashback, but oh well.
HOOK IT TO MY VEINS!
I'm really curious to see if other characters are available, even if just outside story mode. I like the idea of a leaner cast for a Warriors game, and the original HW certainly had an absurdly huge cast. But it also had a ton of great characters to play as (Twili Midna, Linkle, Yuuga, to name just a few of my favs), and I'd love to see at least some of them return for whatever this game's equivalent to Adventure Mode might be.
@Edu23XWiiU it will, according to nintendo’s page. It will also have paid DLC, because the preorder bonus is an item you can buy later on.
Hopefully the next news it will be sharing is tied in with the first full non-game specific, non-mini, non-Indian Nintendo Direct of 2020...
But since it's coming on a Saturday, my expectations are placed firmly below sea-level.
About the bad ending... If handled in the right way it's ok. I mean, I loved Star Wars Rogue One even if I knew how it was going to end. Even in Titanic you already knew the ship was going to sink. So I'm really interested in seeing the world of Hyrule 100 years before Botw, hope to see Hyrule town and some other places. My first thought seeing the trailer was that it's totally recycling Botw's assets And that might be a good thing. I only hope that maps in this game are handled better and are more open than in other warriors games. I can't really stand the map layout in those games... I mean the corridor-like connections and that you have to do big detours to reach the next objective
Meh. Seems pointless. I already know how it ends.
Please don’t be repetitive AF like the original Hyrule Warriors ....
It’s the only Zelda game in the whole series I haven’t bothered to finish after spending more than 100 hours in it.
It’s just bad gameplay design to make it so repetitive and uninspiring. I hope Nintendo noticed this when they decided to work with Tecmo on this.
@Euler well.... you know you’ll eventually die... don’t you wanna know the rest of your story?
@fafonio Pretty much. No one says this stuff whenever a new Mario game is announced. Or even any other new Zelda game.
It seems like this will both be before/leading up to & during the Calamity. actually playing parts like knight Link earning champion status with a pot lid & saving Zelda from the Yiga to the Champion's fall & Zelda's power unleashing.
I really want to get this game but is this Nintendo's Breath of The Wild 2?
@TheFrenchiestFry It's because we'll see more on TGS. It's a Koei Tecmo game.
@Edu23XWiiU Confirmed multiplayer
@NintonicGamer Its not, its a Warriors' gameplay prequel to BOTW 1 to hold us over until BOTW 2 is ready
@Jmjfrank Okay that's good, looking forward to it!
Def a sad story, finish the game to die 😅
Man i am so hyped about this game wow.
Great announcement, I enjoyed Hyrule Warriors but it is far too grindy if you want to 100% the game. Might just complete the story mode in this one but am glad to see a game that's not another Wii U port.
It’s good this wasn’t in a direct as there would have been a lot of people initially hyped, then confused, then pissed.
@KnightsTemplar it means it's officially part of the story
@carlos82 yeah it's been a bit of a naff year but at least it's ending alright.
The game may need to have a sad ending = watching/playing Link and the Champions fall to Calamity one-by-one, but I bet the overall tone of the game’s final ending will be that of solemn victory. After all, Zelda kinda wins, even in this era of the story. Perfect for fans of the darker Zelda games. I’m excited to see how they pull it off!
This month is looking better and better for Nintendo, I'll see if they plan other updates too.
@fafonio that's how warrior games are
@ryancraddock September 26th, Koei Tecmo have a slot at Tokyo Game Show. Coincidence?
