Re: Video: Masahiro Sakurai Talks About Frame Rates In Games

Sacrificing framerate for visuals is always the wrong choice. 30 fps looks and feels so much worse than 60 that any potential increases in graphical fidelity simply aren't worth it. Modern systems are more than capable of delivering impressive visuals while running at 60 fps. Hell, MGS2 on PS2 runs at 60 and still looks impressive to this day. 60 fps should be the target every time.

Re: A Brand New 3DS Game Is Launching This Week (US)

@dluxxx Yo thanks for the heads up, I checked out Automaton Lung on the eShop and bought it on sight! I really love the visual style and the action gameplay in simplistic 3D environments brings me back to the PSX days (in a good way). I played it for a few minutes and the level design seems really open as well.

Re: Best Castlevania Games On Nintendo Consoles

Mirror of Farts only one spot lower than Circle of the Moon (the secret best Castlevania game)? Kid Dracula being higher than CotM, HoD, Bloodlines, Rebirth? That's certainly an, um, interesting take.

Re: 39 Best 3DS eShop Games You Should Get Before They're Gone Forever

@cheetahman91 Galaxy Force 2 is on the Sega 3D Classics collection that was released physically in the US, that's probably why they didn't include it.

Go! Go! Kokopolo 3D needs more love, it's a fantastic top down platform game that is unlike any other game ever made, other than the original for DSiware which is no longer available for purchase. Tokyo Crash Mobs should've gotten a shout out as well, it's a solid Zuma-style puzzle game at its core but with a graphical style and cutscenes that can only be described as LITERALLY INSANE.

Overall the 3DS eShop has surprisingly few exclusive games that are being lost... probably 80% of my 3DS eShop collection consists of games that are either available physically or on other systems. There are a few that I'd still recommend getting on 3DS for the 3D effect though, especially Mutant Mudds and 80s Overdrive. (Though I guess the former is available physically on the Atooi collection, but that collection is probably going to be difficult to find soon.) Oh yeah, the 3DS remakes of Dementium and Moon shouldn't be missed either - not only do they benefit greatly from 3D, but their original versions for DS are hella pricey as well.

Re: Review: Slipstream - A Neat, Sonic-Obsessed Homage To Sega's Super Scaler Tech

accc

Kind of a weird review. Track memorization is a key component of basically every racing game ever made, so dinging the game for having to learn the track layouts to avoid crashing is downright ludicrous. And they admitted that it executes its art style flawlessly but also criticized it because it thinks the art style is overused? Do any other recent games even used this aesthetic besides 80s Overdrive and maaybe Horizon Chase Turbo (although that's more Virtua Racing than Outrun)??? Even if there are others I'm not aware of, it seems silly to complain about the art style if when it pulls it off so well. And I'm not the world's biggest Sonic fan either but complaining about the game paying homage to Sonic also seems really silly.

Re: AM2R Creator Isn't A Fan Of Metroid Dread's E.M.M.I. Encounters

accc

I only played the demo, I liked it but the EMMI encounter was pretty aggravating. I'm interested in picking up the full version if I can get it discounted. I'm just not a fan of the developer's previous work and Dread has too much MercuryStench on it for me to justify spending the full $60.

Re: Feature: Is It Worth Importing A Japanese 3DS For These Virtual Console Games?

accc

I have a Japanese 3DS already but none of those games are really that interesting to me. However I would be extremely grateful if somebody could create a feature to showcase little known 3DS eShop games that were exclusive to Japan (edit: or games that were delisted from the US eShop but still available in Japan) - it's simple enough to navigate the Japanese eShop if you already know what games you want to look up, but discovering lesser known titles without knowledge of Japanese is almost impossible. (Hell it's hard enough to discover games on the US eShop even without the language barrier!)

Re: Happy Halloween! Nintendo Has Released A Free Metroid Dread Demo

accc

I was skeptical about the game due to hating everything Mercury Steam has put out but it's back on my radar now after playing the demo. Outside of a couple of minor quibbles, it's clear that the game is extremely polished and worthy of the Metroid name. I'm still not convinced it's worth $60 but I'll definitely pick it up if I can get it on sale for 50.
