If you're excited about the release of Klonoa Phantasie Reverie Series on the Nintendo Switch this July, you might want to read on. The game's official Japanese website has now revealed the frame rate, resolution and file size for this particular version.
In terms of the frame rate, it'll run at "up to" 60fps on the Switch. In other words, it might not always hit the mark. In the resolution department, the game will be 1080p docked and 720p in handheld mode. Last but not least is the file size, which will be around 8GB on the Nintendo Switch. The other versions of the game are expected to be closer to 12GB.
One other thing you might be interested to know about are the control options. There'll be full compatibility with the Pro Controller, and players can also play with a single Joy-Con held horizontally.
This collection will contain the classic platformers Klonoa: Door to Phantomile and Klonoa 2: Lunatea’s Veil. It will launch on 8th July on the Switch and multiple other platforms. A physical version is also arriving in select regions.
Will you be adding this to your Switch library? Tell us down in the comments.

I have the PAL version on preorder so I'll be a little late playing it. I was very close to dropping $100 cad on the wii version before this announcement.
Oh, well.
I might pick the PS5 version if the game looked interesting enough. 😁
Mario Strikers, Klonoa, Xenoblade and Splatoon in the span of four months is going to cause chaos.
I've never played this series but really looking forward to it. Time to go archive some more Switch games to make space.
"up to 60fps" is fine for these games, from my memory the PS1 versions were more like 30fps (?) and either way they are slower more skill based platformers not twitchathons with super fast characters needing instant reactions. My only hope is the frame drops are well enough dealt with that there isn't too much hitching or slowdown, so it feels good to play. Everything in the video above looks nice and smooth. They are excellent games and I'm looking forward to a chance to replay them.
Wish they would also rerelease the GBA games. Empire of Dreams is fantastic.
June and July gonna destroy my wallet!
Klonoa is not a very demanding game so there should be no reason for it not to hit and stay at 60FPS
'it'll run at 'up to' 60fps'
Link's Awakening flashblacks intensify.
Been thinking about it, we'll see when it releases.
Wonder why they didn't include the GBA Klonoa. It would have made it a true "collection". 2 games doesn't really feel like a collection.
@samuelvictor
yeah the videos look smooth from what weve seen.
I feel like saying "up to 60fps" can seem like a concern considering quite a few games with noticeable performance issues do manage to hit 60 from time to time (like MHstories 2 and DQ builders 2, they do manage to hit 60 in places but can also drop below 30)
like you mentioned hopefully there wont be much in the way of things like hitching or frame pacing issues
Hell yeah! This is great, no complaints. (Although with that size difference, I wonder if other versions will be noticeably crisper... oh well, I'm playing this on a Nintendo.)
...Oh that sweet, sweet juicy 1080p/60fps combo. Was braced for 30fps so this just made my day.
@Fizza Haha, I know. I've sorta gotten over it somehow. Its a pretty smooth game for the most part, and I just love that it even exists and attempts 60fps, so much that... well, I can't be mad at it, ha. (Its basically rock solid 60 in the dungeons as far as I can tell.)
@BlubberWhale The Goponga Swamp.... it haunts me.....
I got past the framerate issues after a while though and Link's Awakening is still one of my favourite Switch games so far (and I guess GB games as well). I am very excited for Klonoa here as well but whenever they start mentioning fluxuating framerates, I shudder.
I'll likely buy these on PC so I can play them at an uncapped framerate assuming they'll support that.
@DrewBA77 Remember playing that years ago. I still own it today.
@Fizza Haha, yeah, it sorta sticks in my mind as well... but... like you, its up there with my very favorite Switch games. I just never would've expected them to remake one of my favorite games, and even if I hadn't played the original, its still awesome on its own without any nostalgia. That game needs more love, I'd like to see it hit 10 million in sales at least, but... I should probably be happy if it reaches 8. (All I know is 5.49 mil as of March 31, 2021.)
Isn't Link's Awakening on Switch great!!? Sorry, I just never find anyone who seems to really like that game as much as I do, ha. (Even though, I must admit, I haven't finished it. Hoping to make time...)
You are correct to be a bit cautious about Klonoa. I'm feeling somewhat optimistic, but for all we know it could be a real turd performance-wise... that would be super sad.
Hoping with Bandai Namco behind it, they won't let it chug too hard... right? 😅 Nah, its gonna be great! Can't wait! Pre-ordered a physical copy!
Even the original Klonoa game on PS1 ran at a locked 60 fps, as did the sequel on the PS2 and the remake on the Wii. It would be super embarrassing for the developers if they can't deliver the same performance on hardware that is many orders of magnitude more powerful.
8gb sounds like a great reason to have a physical in North America.
I've been told a lot of great things about Klonoa, can't wait to try these games out!
I'm guessing it's a good thing I got the Wii remake when it was released, as well having a PS2 copy of the sequel.
Hopefully this game will have a physical release in the us.
I'm just glad I'll finally have a good way to play Klonoa 2. I never bought it back in the day and used copies have become quite expensive.
"Up to 60fps" is good enough for me. Shows that they actually cared and didn't overshoot boundaries for games that shouldn't be overly complex.
@Half-ShellHero Would have loved to see that along with the WonderSwan game and the GBA RPG. Can only hope this will lead to some more games. Loved the GBA games it's what got me into the series.
@Axecon These 2 games are 2 of my favorite platformers of all time. Highly recommended.
Remember guys the Wii remake of Klonoa is only running at 30fps so getting the Switch version of Klonoa 1 & 2 at 60fps is fantastic. The Wii version will only hit 60fps if play through the Dolphin emulator.
Glad to be hear it's gonna be 60FPS, I can already feel the smoothness in the gameplay showings!
I'm ready to have my Klonoa rocked
Definitely getting this but on my competent Xbox console. That resume feature and being able to stream to my tablet is just the best that and Switch games are really looking past it and seem to be a developers after thought when it's comes to ports.
It's so weird, when did two of the main features of a game announced in a press release become how big it is and the fps. Maybe I'm just dumb but I do not really know what to do WITH that information! Haha
Seems perfectly fine and about what I expected. I'm in.
Is this a Ninja Gaiden “up to 60fps”?
@accc it's probably safer for them to say "up to" join case there is a dip and people go online to complain. Same way car manufacturers say "up to 50mpg" when in reality, most people would get half that.
When they say on an 8gb on Switch, I hope that doesn't mean 8gb physical cart with a mandatory 3-4 gb day one patch...
Regardless, really looking forward to playing this..
Still have Klonoa on PS1 somewhere in the house and always loved it. All I want now is a Tomba remake and a Hogs of War remake (maybe a Street Racer remake too). I'm hoping the "up to 60fps" is because of the CO-OP and it is 60fps in single player.
I am interested in this. Will wait till the reviews arrive though (and maybe the first discount hits )
This was planned as a day-one purchase. But „up to 60 fps“ sounds as if I should wait for the first performance patch (and the first discount). Or buy the PS5 version instead.
I love Klonoa and still have my games for PS2, Wii and GBA. But one thing I love about these games is that they run so smooth. No 60 FPS = No buy.
@WaveBoy add sonic and crash to that 30fps list. And there’s multiple entries in both series. All a lovely 30fps. Let’s be honest there isn’t much on the switch which are 60fps. But who needs a pro?
Meh, seems Bamco can get away with sub-par framerates, cause the Switch is such an appealing system with users who don't really mind.
Having played PS1-Klonoa on MiSTer FPGA with activated 16:9 hack on a PVM, rock-solid 60 FPS and zero input lag over the weekend, I feel like we're often too forgiving when it comes to remasters and remakes.
But then again, I'm a tad more hardcore than the average Switch user ;P
Hmm, now I'm wondering if I should push this to "future living room gaming PC" pile instead.
Despite not being ideal (personally I prefer a hit to the resolution than the frame rate.......I say this but mutants year zero was probably a step too far)...... Some credit must be given to Namco for being partially transparent about it.
Most others would just say it runs at 60fps (or not even mention a target fps for the title?)
As long as its relatively stable I dont mind the dips.
@accc it was mostly 60 FPS, but the original definitely had framerate drops and stuttering in some areas.
