If you remember a little while back, we reported on a rather ambitious indie developer from Australia who's looking to bring seven new titles to the Wii U and 3DS, defying the upcoming eShop closure. One of those games is about to come to fruition, as Silver Falls: Ghoul Busters will be launching on the Nintendo 3DS on July 14th in the US, with release dates in Europe and Australia to follow soon. The game follows Silver Falls: 3 Down Stars, which launched back in January 2020 to middling reviews.
Although it sounds remarkably similar to a small 1984 movie starring up and comers Bill Murray and Sigourney Weaver, Silver Falls: Ghoul Busters is an homage to classic 2D platformers and is said to boast tightly designed levels that will provide a solid challenge for all gamers.
Here's some further info from the official PR release:
Taking place decades before Silver Falls – 3 Down Stars (New Nintendo 3DS), with a story set in the early 1990s, Ghoul Busters draws on decades of inspiration of challenging, adrenaline pumping side-scrolling platforming action. Each level in Ghoul Busters offers something new and exciting. There are no gimmicks or complications and no random generation here. Every level is tightly designed to offer the same kinds of satisfying challenges that made the 90s the golden era for platforming games.
Silver Falls: Ghoul Busters will launch on the US eShop at a price of $9.99.

Is it just me, or is every small indie studio striving for the title of "last game released for the 3DS"...
@Erigen yep, quite a few are surprisingly.
@Erigen It's good for free publicity for their games.
Hang on to your 3DS and 2DS.
No stereoscopic 3D? No point.
@Erigen whomever “wins” will have collectors scrambling to buy their game no matter the quality. And some people may buy because they view it as “sticking” it to Nintendo for closing a shop with dwindling traffic. So it can be a good way to recoup dev costs.
The Vita gets more games post death than the 3ds. Poor situation to be honest.
Looks nice. I'll give it a shot.
NLife, please review them!
The new game Automaton Lung that released last week on 3DS eshop is way rad.
@dluxxx Yo thanks for the heads up, I checked out Automaton Lung on the eShop and bought it on sight! I really love the visual style and the action gameplay in simplistic 3D environments brings me back to the PSX days (in a good way). I played it for a few minutes and the level design seems really open as well.
@accc once you get into the flow it's just like a classic psx, dreamcast game in a good way
To what ends? This system has done its best. Better for the developers to focus their talents elsewhere than waste it on something that won't matter much.
@Silly_G
This game is 3D. 2D platformer, yes, but it has layers.
I always felt like the 3D effect worked best on 2D sprite based games.
But does it have stereoscopic 3d? If not, I'm not interested, personally.
@nukatha isn't that usually called 2.5d?
@Ryu_Niiyama if they are eShop only, how can someone "win" by getting more sales? It will be too late if the eShop closes, so what would these collectors be buying & from whom?
@twztid13
Yes. The question was whether it has stereoscopic 3D. And I'm fairly certain it does. I'll post here tomorrow after buying it if it does not. If I say nothing assume it does display in 3D.
@nukatha ahh, ok, my bad. I always post my comment, then scroll up & read the most recent comments. I wish it would have the post number we replied to, to make it easier to follow conversations in the comments section.
@twztid13 I don’t understand your question/comment. I responded to a user who commented that users are trying to be the last game released on the 3ds. Nintendo likely is limiting processing of submissions after a certain point and sales increase as a digital shop nears closure. If a game has something unique about it then collectors (who don’t just buy physical) will try to buy before the shop closes. Artificially boosting sales for a game that might otherwise be ignored. Thus they recoup dev costs and profit. The eshop closes next year.
@Ryu_Niiyama if they wanted to be last, why wouldn't the devs just artificially delay the game until the final day or month the eShop is open? It just doesn't make sense to me that a developer thinks that would help them, so it confused me, sorry.
@twztid13 because there is a game submission process and even if there weren’t there is no set date for the eshop closure (beyond sometime in March). Either way it was a comment I made to another user so don’t worry about it. Have a nice day.
@twztid13
NA eShop hasn't updated for the day yet, but this game IS listed as coming soon, and has stereoscopic screenshots. It is a 3D (2.5D) game.
@nukatha wow, that's very surprising, but makes me happy. I'm glad some devs haven't abandoned stereoscopic 3d entirely, even though Nintendo did. I actually preferred that to VR, though I'm sure I'm in the minority there. Those games can be played normally, but come alive. VR needs special accessories, design, etc, to be worthwhile. I hate that even Sony abandoned 3d so quickly. All these companies abandoned it, but they're all jumping on NFT's of images so quickly, it will be a shame if that fad lasts longer than the stereoscopic 3d fad, IMO. Thanks for the info, though, sorry for the side rant. I think i will get this myself to show the dev my appreciation, but i need to buy a battery for my new 3ds, mine has been shot for a while. They just restocked them on the My Nintendo store (US) a couple days ago, so i think it's time to snag one (i didn't want to buy from other retailers, I've heard too many bad experiences).
@Ryu_Niiyama it's all good. I was just trying to understand, i wasn't just commenting to make a point, or try to start an argument. Thanks for at least taking the time to explain.
I want to warn everyone, right now this has a game breaking bug. My game keeps crashing once I get to level 2-3 and can’t progress any further, everytime I try to continue, the 3DS has to do a full reboot. Just warning anyone who’s interested in this.
Edit: apparently the developer is now aware and has a fix on the way. It’s just a matter of waiting for Nintendo to approve it.
