A few weeks ago, PlatinumGames finally locked in a release date for its new shmup game Sol Cresta. It'll be arriving later this month on 22nd February for €39.99 / $39.99 / 3,980 yen.
In addition to a digital release, Limited Run Games has now also announced standard and collector's edition physical copies of the game. Pre-orders go live later today and will close on March 20th. The standard edition for Switch will set you back $49.99 USD or your regional equivalent, and the collector's edition will cost you $129.99. Here's a look at both:
The collector's edition comes with a CD soundtrack, art cards, a pin, a mini replica arcade cabinet, acrylic standees, medals and more. Will you be adding a physical copy of Sol Cresta to your Nintendo Switch collection? Tell us down below.

nice physical edition but still $40 for a SHUMP????????????
Oh man!!!
I saw the email! And I'm so getting this!
I would love to see the Cresta series come back!
How many drama news did this small shmup game have before finally getting the release?
whoa, who's the hot babe in the middle of the acrylic standees
So many release date delays. And now the price tag. It's almost like they rely on negative PR for this one. But still I'm about to buy it day one. It so got that instant legend vibe!
Keeping an eye on this, no idea why but I've been wanting to play more of those vertical shmup games. I already have a couple of the Raiden games (IV on Steam, IV and V on Switch), recently got Crimzon Clover on Switch and it's insanity. lol
I'm still waiting on a physical release for Doom Eternal on Switch
Whatever happened to Platinum's self publishing?
Did The Wonderful 101 Remastered physical release go so wrong?
Not thrilled its with LRG but this one will make a fine addition to my collection.
@HammerGalladeBro yes.
I'll be picking up the standard edition for sure
The price seems kinda outrageous imo
$50 premium to have the physical sometime around Christmas this year? Yeaaa no thanks.
ow, amazing! Thought it would take a while to see a physical version of this game.
I remember the old arcade game...I can't imagine what this new game will be.
$50 USD?! F----K YOU, LRG! Plus $20 USD shipping! And 8 months to arrive! Ridiculous! 😡
@Joeynator3000 Try Ikaruga and Cybattler, too
The digital is $40, an extra 10 to have a physical seems reasonable, would be nice to see them hold off until the DLC is done and have it included on the cart.
PlatinumGames are well known and make quality games, its weird to see them sell through LRG, no hate, its just a weird choice.
The game still looks pretty bad though.
The collector's edition preorders goes live right when i end todays work. It's destiny. Yeah, i'm picking up the collector's edition. It's so pretty... right now i'm waiting also for the collector's edition for deathsmiles 1 & 2.
@BloodNinja what a great and underrated game is Cybattler.
@BloodNinja I actually looked up Ikaruga and...I probably won't...I can't see myself focusing on two colored bullets and swapping shields or whatever, it would drive me crazy. xD
No thanks, Platinum Games is a big company and there's no reason to go through Limited Run, this is not what these labels are for.
@Joeynator3000 Do yourself a massive favour and buy Eschatos. It's one of the Switch's very finest shmups and perhaps my all time favourite.
Am I the only one who looks at the title and reads it as Sol Presta?
I am still waiting some items from LRG. They need to stop adding more to thier catalog and focus on what they already sold.
@Joeynator3000 Oh, it’s confusing as heck at first, but it does have easy mode. I prefer playing on easy, just so I can enjoy it more. After a couple practice sessions you’ll get it nailed down. The combo system is what’s even more confusing though. Every 3 enemies of a same color gives you a bonus. If you keep defeating enemies in sets of 3 of the same color, you get a huge amount of bonus points. It’s crazy fun once you get past the initial learning curve, and I’m very bottom tier at these types of games.
@Oppyz666 Yes, Cybattler was so well done for its time. That’s a game that actually is underrated!
$50 physical? $40 digital??
What the heck is going on here?
Thought $40 was steep. But $50 is in WTH category. Why so high?
Why are these games suddenly 50? Limited Run always used to be around 30-35. Add international shipping etc and this is just too much.
@Troll_Decimator They don't go through anyone, LR buys the licence. Platinum couldn't care less if it's physical or not and that side has nothing to do with them.
@YANDMAN To buy the license, someone has to sell.
I wait for a review as the preorder is available until end of March. The price… if it is good it is OK for me. The eShop price is the same.
Have SHMUPS in my collection which have been more expensive.
Am I really the only one excited for this game? Clearly I'm the boomer here...
Looks at his special edition Space Invaders Infinite Collection box set
I would never consider buying a fancy physical edition without knowing the quality of the game first.
You have a minority of gamers demanding physical releases or no purchase, then they give you a limited physical release, and people complain of prices. Can’t win. Physical releases are too expensive to make for smaller games. Time to accept digital releases .
@Troll_Decimator Yep. You just summed up licensing. Still doesn't mean they're making it though.
