Re: Review: UnMetal - A Surprisingly Robust Metal Gear Parody Brimming With Ideas

@SilentHunter382 Shouldn't the reviewer be able to critique how well the game executes its humor, though? Considering the humor is the major selling point. It seems that this reviewer is entirely opposed to the style of comedy that the game employs, or possibly to the very concept of comedy itself. It would be like if they had somebody review a game from a genre that they detest, and they took points off because they don't like the genre.

Re: The Game Boy Advance Is Getting Its First Commercial Release In 13 Years

That actually looks pretty awesome and I'd love to have a physical copy, but I'm not sold enough to throw my hat in the ring at this point. I'd rather wait to hear some impressions and hope that they expand their plans for the physical release(s).

EDIT: Scratch that, I played the demo and I'm completely sold. In for the GBA physical release! Now, to find my DS Lite charger...

@60frames-please I was just about to post the same thing haha! Was looking forward to it but I checked some Switch footage and saw that it's only 30fps. So I'll be buying it on another platform if I do pick it up. Was looking forward to having this on a portable, but oh well

It's weird, I could've sworn that they demo'd the game running at 60 fps on the Switch before. Guess they couldn't get it locked down.

Re: Mini Review: Unbound: Worlds Apart - All The Portals You Need

@Pamfy This makes me wonder if the framerate was locked to 30 in the review copy or if it was unlocked. Hopefully the reviewer's copy was unlocked and so their complaints about the framerate instability don't apply to the final version. Still, as somebody who would rather play a game that runs at 60 fps with drops over a game that runs at 30 fps with no drops, I would have preferred if there was an option to keep the framerate unlocked, even if they left 30 fps lock as the default option.

Re: Mini Review: Unbound: Worlds Apart - All The Portals You Need

@Pamfy The demo wasn't locked at 30, it was 60 fps. I even re-downloaded it to verify. There's also a video of the demo on youtube by the channel ContraNetwork which you can watch, which shows the game running at 60. However, all of the Switch footage of the full version that I can find on youtube seems to be locked to 30. Is it possible they decided to lock the final version to 30? I don't see why they would do that.

EDIT: I emailed the devs and they confirmed, the demo runs at 60 fps but the full version was locked to 30 due to some areas in the final version not being able to achieve a stable 60 fps. Disappointing to hear as I would prefer to play the game with an unlocked framerate but they did say they were looking at performance improvements for future patches.

I find the reviewer's claim about the framerate difficult to believe, considering the demo ran at a nearly flawless 60 fps. Maybe the full version has some busier scenes causing it to slow down, but the review claims that it languishes even during quieter moments, which simply wasn't the case in the demo. I'll wait to see if other reviews or footage of the final version comes out to corroborate or refute this claim.

Re: Video: Yuji Naka Actually Made This Hidden Gem During The Wii Generation

The Wii version of Rodea is such a hidden gem that even this well-written article + video highlighting exactly why the Wii version of Rodea is a hidden gem is being dismissed by commenters who still don't understand that the Wii version of Rodea is a completely different game than the Wii U and 3DS version. Kadokawa really screwed the pooch with this one, didn't they?

In short, Rodea for the Wii is a must-play for fans of Nights or anybody who loves innovative gameplay mechanics wrapped in colorful anime aesthetics. Rodea for the Wii U, on the other hand, is an ugly broken mess.

Re: Mini Review: Neversong - A Lovingly-Crafted Metroidvania Which Sadly Ends Too Soon

Could the author be a little more specific on the game's length? I don't know what their definition of "few" is, so "a few short hours" could mean 2 hours, 3 hours, 4 hours, maybe even 5 or 6 hours? And there's a big difference between 2 hours and 6 hours in terms of value. I don't understand why they couldn't just mention what their initial clear time was in the last paragraph.

Re: Review: Rush Rally 3 - A Cheap And Cheerful Rally Racer

Some people have such weird priorities. Sure the game won't win any awards for its visuals, but they do look quite nice in motion much of the time due in large part to the blistering framerate, and even at their worst they're still totally inoffensive and service the game perfectly well. If the reviewer is this bothered by visuals that aren't state of the art then maybe he shouldn't be reviewing low budget indie titles that appear to have been developed by a single person.
