Aw man, I really hope Monsters Come Out on Friday makes it out somehow. I'm looking forward to it and Starship Damrey equally. Not entirely sold on Bugs Vs. Tanks.
If it comes to the Wii U virtual console then I hope they put it on the Wii VC as well, since who knows if or when I'll ever get a Wii U. Not to mention that classic 2D games look and play a million times better on CRT SDTVs (like the one I have my Wii hooked up to) than they do on LCD HDTVs (which are pretty much required for using a Wii U).
There really isn't anything Japanese game developers can learn from Western game developers. 99% of high-budget Western games are absolutely terrible. The problem lies with the very design philosophy of Western developers: they focus on making their games as marketable as possible, with no deference to innovation or design quality. The Japanese development philosophy, on the other hand, lies with developers making games that THEY want to play; making them as polished and as tightly designed as they can, and trying to sell them on their own merits. Until this changes, Western games will never catch up to Japanese games in terms of quality.
PS if you think it isn't challenging enough, did you know you can charge up your melee attack to get twice as many notes per hit? This adds a ton of depth and replayability to the game, and you need to be a real rhythm master to know when to use the charge attack and pull it off successfully to maximize your score. I see it was mentioned in the review, but it's a really brilliant mechanic that's implemented perfectly and really increases the depth of the game.
I've been eagerly anticipating this game ever since it was first released in Japan as Hyu Stone. It was one of the first games to be released exclusively on the 3DS eShop, shortly after it launched in 2011. I always thought it looked really interesting and I'm glad I'll finally get to play it after nearly 2 years of waiting!
The gyro aiming worked really well in the 3DS game, so it'll still control well with the Wii U pad's gyro controls. It's a bit disappointing that they aren't supporting the Wiimote though. It's simply the best control option for point and shoot games.
I love 60 fps visuals in stereoscopic 3D. It makes the effect that much more convincing and really adds to the immersion. Super Monkey Ball 3D was worth playing.simply because it runs at 60 fps in 3D, even though it's completely unremarkable in all other respects. I wish more developers would shoot for this.
I'm really in love with this series. I don't mind the punishing difficulty because it makes the puzzles feel more rewarding when you figure out how to complete them, and a lot of the puzzles have really brilliant solutions that make really good use of the game's mechanics. Even more so when you need to figure out how to speed run them to get platinums. I would almost put them on the same level as Pushmo and Crashmo, they're that good.
Just a quick comment on your review, the L/R pause isn't redundant because it allows you to scroll the stage, whereas normal pause doesn't. It's still a little weird that they didn't map this function to "select" while using L/R for something more practical.
Ouch, sounds like this is more of a proof-of-concept demo than a full game. I guess I'll just be spending my money on Witch's Cat (Rabi Laby Gaiden) and Bloody Vampire this week.
@6ch6ris6 Yeah, this series of games really interests me but I don't have room for any more DSi games on my 3DS and I don't like having to shuffle things around. I don't see why Nintendo doesn't implement a tool to boot games from the SD card, like they did with Wiiware.
Super G&G is one of my favorite games of all time (though I think Prinny on the PSP surpassed it). It's interesting to find out that people from Platinum Games worked on it.
It looks nice, but the developer doesn't seem to have the best reputation, judging by the review scores of their previous efforts. Consider me tentatively interested.
I wish they would release at least one snippet of information about the game before it comes out — I want to know what type of game it is, at the very least! They never clarified if it's going to be a platformer like the first game, or a surfing game like the title suggests, or something completely different.
I don't normally like first person shooters, but I really enjoyed Moon and the Dementium games, so I'll keep an eye out for their new eshop fps. I just hope it runs at the same smooth 60 frames per second rate as their DS games, and that you can use the gyroscope controls to aim like in RE Revelations.
Has the reviewer (or anybody else, for that matter) managed to beat level 3-5? I find it impossible to complete without running out of time, due to the low time limit and random nature of the time extension pickups.
They really should have worked something out in order to ensure Super Meat Boy's release on Wiiware. I think its cancellation pretty much signaled the death of Wiiware as a viable platform.
@reviewer - The game is published by Nintendo, there's no way it's coming out for Ios or Android.
I'm looking forward to trying this out. I love the concept behind the 360 degree motion controls. I can rotate my 3DS around in a circle without much difficulty, so I'm sure I won't have as much trouble with the controls as the reviewer had.
Holy crap, Wiiware lives! This actually looks really good, I'll probably buy it. Hopefully this is a sign that Nintendo isn't done with Wiiware yet. I'm pretty miffed that we still haven't received Rush! Rush! Rally Racing in North America.
This review essentially echoes how I feel about the game (I have the PC version). I want to love it because it's so pretty, but the overall gameplay and puzzles feel somewhat lacking. I'd like to know what specifically is wrong with the button mapping on the Wiimote and Nunchuk, though, since I've always felt that both Trine games would be much better with Wiimote controls.
This review is much too lenient. Jump Trials is absolutely terrible compared to 10 Second Run. The controls are poor and the boring, repetitive level design makes the game a total snoozefest. I replayed 10 Second Run after I was finished with this game and the difference was immediately obvious. 10 Second Run feels like the developers actually spent time coming up with interesting level concepts and putting them to paper, while Jump Trials' levels feel like they randomly threw a bunch of spikes and platforms onto an empty canvas and called it a day.
His statement might mean something if he had done anything noteworthy in the last twenty years. Molyneux is pretty much the joke of the industry these days.
The demo was pretty fun, but I heard that the full game was seriously lacking in length (somebody said it only took him around 6 hours to finish the game and max out his character) and depth, so I passed on it.
@lakersfanmartin Agree 100%! Calling was a great game that would've earned a lot more praise if it was on any other system. One of the all-time hidden gems for sure.
10 second run was a pretty fun diversion for a couple of hours. I'd probably pick this up if I wasn't out of memory for storing DSiware games on my 3DS. Seriously, why didn't Nintendo ever give us an easy launch from SD solution like they did with Wiiware?
None of the above... first thing I downloaded was the Mutant Mudds pack! But of the available choices, I went with Liberation Maiden first. The line "I accept my sworn duty... as the second president of New Japan!", coming from a mech piloted by a Japanese schoolgirl, sold me instantly.

Re: Review: Dillon's Rolling Western: The Last Ranger (3DS eShop)
Sounds like exhibit A on how NOT to do a sequel.

Turn Megaman into a generic crappy fps? Umm yeah no thanks

Re: No Circle Pad Pro In Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon Because "It Didn't Add Anything"
Dual analog controls are a pointless gimmick. I'm glad it wasn't included.

Re: Review: HarmoKnight (3DS eShop)
If the full game manages to live up to the demo, it'll easily be a 10 in my book. The demo blew the Bit Trip Runner games out of the water!
Re: Original DuckTales Not Coming To Virtual Console
I'd rather have the original for $5 than buy the overpriced remake tbh. 15 bucks for a game which takes less than an hour to complete? No thank you.
Re: The Electus 64 II Mini Brings the Sexy Back to Nintendo 64

Re: Platinum Games: Ask Capcom if You Want Okami 2
We already had a sequel... it was called Okamiden... glad to see other people have brought this up already.
Re: Rhythm Hunter: HarmoKnight's US Price Is Revealed
15 bucks is an acceptable price for me... I was expecting $20 based on the Japanese price.

..No, it will be the fifth, following the PC releases of Beat, Runner, Void and Core.
Re: Picdun 2: Witch’s Curse Heading For Europe
^assuming that it's coming to NA, that is.
Re: Picdun 2: Witch’s Curse Heading For Europe
Will buy. I really wanted to buy the first PicDun but didn't because my 3DS doesn't have room for any more DSiware games.

Re: Prize Awarded To Brave Knight Who Completed Ghosts 'n Goblins On 3DS
Beating it on the 3DS VC shouldn't really be too difficult, considering you can (ab)use save states.
