One of the many surprises of the latest Nintendo Direct was Klonoa Phantasie Reverie Series - featuring remasters of the classic platformers - Klonoa: Door to Phantomile and its sequel Klonoa 2: Lunatea’s Veil.
After a number of trademarks surfaced for the collection last year, this two-in-one release has now been confirmed for 8th July 2022 on the Nintendo Switch. And in case you're wondering - it seems there'll also be a physical release.
Here's the confirmation from an official Bandai Namco Twitter account - locking in multiple physical versions for all platforms including the Nintendo Switch. According to the same listing, it'll arrive on the same date as the digital release.
And here's a little about the game, courtesy of Nintendo's official website:
Klonoa is back! Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series brings back Klonoa: Door to Phantomile and Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil remastered in one collection to fans new and old. Get ready to set off on an adventure to save the world!
Run and jump while using your Wind Ring to grab and throw your enemies. Adjust the difficulty levels to test your skills. Enlist a friend in 2 player co-op, if you need help.
Will you be revisiting Klonoa when it arrives on the Nintendo Switch this July? Tell us down in the comments.

never heard of this series before but its cool that it is getting a physical copy.
That's good to hear! I've heard great things about these games but never got around to trying them out myself, so I'm looking forward to playing them on Switch.
I buy physical when possible so this is always nice to see.
Unrelated, but I can’t help but daydream of Nintendo someday offering physical “all-in-one” editions of Smash Ultimate and Mario Kart 8, kind of like the BOTW and Splatoon 2 re-releases in Japan.
I loved playing these games back in the day and when they were announced for Switch I was absolutely delighted. This makes me even happier.
I want to buy this game physical, but it has a "Digital Deluxe" version that comes with the soundtrack for both games and that sounds extremely appealing. I hope that there is some option for physical buyers to get the same content that comes with the Digital Deluxe version.
Never played these, but a few months ago I remember someone on this site said they wished for a Klonoa remaster/reboot and I’m happy for them whoever they are!
What sorta question is that? OF COURSE IM GETTING IT!!! Also it’s not a revisit for me since i never played the games before. Hopefully Klonoa heroes gets a us release.
Good news, and it's sad it has to be confirmed, but that's the product of our times...
I think I'll get it on Xbox, though. I don't have that many platform games there and it's probably going to be on offer sooner than on Switch.
I'll definitely pick this up. I'm always down for another fun platformer or two.
Yes, it's getting a European physical release, but do we know if it's getting a NA physical release yet? Because I've been checking Amazon a few times a day, and it's still MIA in north america
Never played Klonoa, but I know it has a passionate fanbase and I love cartoony platformers, so I definitely plan to pick this up. I know I'm beating a dead horse, but I can only hope Bandai-Namco is finally gonna remaster the Pac-Man World trilogy next. After Crash, Spyro, Cuphead, A Hat in Time, Ty the Tasmanian Tiger, Battle for Bikini Bottom, etc., it's pretty much the last major "Never gonna happen, but I'd love to have it on Switch" game. Starting to think I have the power to will things into existence... Either that, or companies are getting a lot better at listening. (Don't @ me about NFTs, I know they're a problem, but I'm tired of hearing about them.)
This is certainly incredibly tempting. I have the Wii game still but never finished it. This may be a good opportunity to do so and it comes with the second game.
I prefer the digital version, but this game in general looks really fun; I'm looking forward to it.
Loved these games on the original PlayStation. I wanna say I played them on a handheld, too. Maybe the game boy. 🤷🏾♂️
These games are great!! ❤️❤️❤️
@zawa113 I was thinking the same thing hopefully the NA gets a physical release too or I'll Have to import it.
Nice box art too. I'll be trying these games for the first time. Very cool these are coming to Switch/modern platforms.
This all depends if both games are on the one cartridge, cant see a download required on the box art, so very hopeful
Always wanted to play them, never did. The time is now
@Teksetter : Let’s not forget Pokémon Sword/Shield, though they have since been discontinued, bafflingly enough.
Hopefully both games will be on the cartridge not like Spyro where you get a digital code for one or two of the games.
I’ll definitely be buying this physically. The only question left is, do I buy it for the Switch or the PS4? Or both! 😀
I do love the Klonoa games. I only played the first one for the first time a few years ago, so don’t hold any nostalgia for them either. Even the GBA games, while not as good as the PS1/PS2 games, are really enjoyable too.
day 1 for me. never played the originals
@theflowergarden I know it’s not the same, as I’m not sure if they’ll be remastering or even re-composing the soundtracks and you may get extras, but you can easily find downloads for the first 2 games’ official soundtracks online. I have them both, and I like them very much.
Brilliant games, one of the highlights of the direct for me.
Not only is this a day one release for me, but I'm tempted to get it on Switch AND PS4, just to give it as much support as possible and to have it on multiple consoles in case one of them breaks down. For one of my favourite games of all time, it deserves it.
@noobish_hat
Excellent observation! For the most part it’s fairly safe to assume 1st- and 3rd-party AAA games will have physical releases, but we have no idea about indies or more niche titles. I too wish they’d kindly announce which games we can own physically, to save us some trouble researching.
Sadly,, physical availability is losing prevalence so now there’s always some doubt if a game will be eshop only or even (blech!) cloud.
I found a new/old comparison for anyone interested:
https://youtu.be/DUvmHk4FvnE
It basically got a Twilight Princess HD treatment, more or less depending on the area
@Yosher Just wanted to put this out there. These versions of the game seem to be alot more true to the original compared to the Wii version. With that being said it might be worth picking this up still for you.
Klonoa is the forever hidden gem. I won't miss out on it this time!
@GravyThief Theres ALOT coming out this year but I might double dip myself. I love my Switch but let's be real; it's not the best way to play most of time especially when it comes to third parties. I'd really like to experience the game with better overall performance but I do love me some handheld gaming.
I find myself in this situation quite a bit. It's like, play the game at its peak performance. (At least what's available to me (Xbox Series S)) or get the handheld experience. Which due to the convenience, I'm more likely to get more actual play time out of it. It's a hard toss.
@Qphlat27 Thanks for the input, that's good to keep in mind!
I briefly played the Wii version, but not enough to remember much of it.
I'm definitely gonna grab it though
Already have the JP version preordered but I'll probably double-dip on the western release as well. Especially if it gets a nice CE.
I remember seeing these games back in the day, but I never played them. I'll double dip day one physical copies for Switch & PS5.
Nice to have this for modern consoles finally, it's disappointing how Sony just shrug this and Crash and Spyro off the PlayStation Classic mini.
"One of the many surprises of the latest Nintendo Direct was Klonoa Phantasie Reverie Series - featuring remasters of the classic platformers - Klonoa: Door to Phantomile and its sequel Klonoa 2: Lunatea’s Veil."
Suggestion: Separate releases for the "Klonoa: Door to Phantomile" and "Klonoa 2: Lunatea’s Veil" mentioned in this article (especially for any being who might have had only a certain other "Door to Phantomile" game, a certain other "Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil" game, or a certain "Klonoa" game for certain other systems (specifically certain PlayStation, PlayStation 2, and Nintendo Wii systems respectively)).
@Silly_G
Now that you mention it, when I checked Amazon Japan just now the BOTW all-in-one was out of stock except for inflated prices!
What a shame they made those releases limited-run, especially if they are still printing the original-run stock games.
Ugh, you snooze, you lose, I suppose...
Definitely buying this! So many memories playing this with my son when he was little.
Good to hear this. Originals are stupid expensive.
Its a shame 1 isn't a port of the wii version.
I’ve never tried these games before! Definitely going to get a copy, it looks fun!
yessssssssss. looking forward to it!
@Teksetter : I just checked Play-Asia, and Lo and behold, they’re sold out as well. What a shame for those who missed out.
Now I’m especially glad that I bought mine as early as I did.
In the short term, this is the Switch game I'm most looking forward to! Will be very glad to have a physical copy on the shelf too
I've found a UK listing for the EU release of Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series, it's on GAME.co.uk
https://www.game.co.uk/en/games/klonoa-phantasy-reverie-series
It's also available on Play-asia.
Right now I'm of the impression that this might not get a US release, so US fans would have to import the EU version from somewhere.
Shop4megastore, a sister site to the UK-run 365games is usually good for this. They haven't listed the game yet though.
Not revisiting but playing for the first time for me. Very excited.
I am looking forward, yes?
I've heard a lot about the game, and now that they've announced the remaster, I decided to finally try the series. I'm glad to say it's actually fun! It's not super complicated to control, but it demands that you make the best use of the skills available to you, especially as you get further in. Easy to pick up, difficult to master.
I'm really liking it so far! Hope they add a couple of modes, like a boss rush, or something.
I’m a big fan of the first Klonoa Door to Phantomile from the PS2 dayz and I’m really delighted to see this and the second one over here on the Switch! Just one question: Is this going to be in English? I’d much rather have that! Lemme know! I cant wait til July!
Best part of the direct. Day one of course! 😃
Kinda weird they didn’t make a big deal out of the fact that they are so extensively remastered, almost to the point of looking like remakes. (But not quite, which is almost preferable imo, since I wanna get a bit of the flavor of the original game.)
I can’t even find any YouTubers talking about this and comparing the games or analyzing the trailers… though admittedly the fanbase is pretty small…
