Crap, I was hoping not to find a reason to buy this game. This might make it too easy
Goty so far for me. It and tales of arise.
Finally, I can try this game out now without buying it first
Glad that I have a chance to try out Dread. I played through Super Metroid on NSO and I really enjoyed it, so I'm happy that I have the option to test the game out before spending 60 bones.
Nice! I'm definitely getting it soon to play on my channel, but I'll definitely help myself to the demo in the meantime.
Nice. I haven't had a chance (or money) to get it, so I really appreciate it.
Well I mean, I was already gonna buy it at some point but, I might not be able to help it if you give me a demo.
I'm gonna be that guy. The game is fun, and very well balanced...but it was over too soon for me. I mean, I don't even get much play time, and my 3 girls even had double header soccer championships for three of the 6 days I first played the thing. Great game, wish it were longer, loved the sequence break rewards.
I've bought and beat Dread, and still might get the demo lol
considering I’ve beaten the game once I do wish to see how far this demo will let you go or if it’s time based
Betting £2 that the demo ends after defeating the broken EMMI.
Why can't you save in the demo!! Kind of frustrating, but I guess it's free?
@KirbysAdventure I'll take the £2 I made it to the save area after that and the game seems to go on a little further.
Game length is the biggest thing holding me back from a purchase. Be glad to try the demo.
I’m done praising the game. It’s damn genius and a work of art. Seems either you hate it or love it.
So no… I’m not here to sing my praises again.. Nope… What I am here for is to comment on how awesome that Samus jack-o-lantern is!! Why didn’t I think of that?! .
Im still yet to get this game cause I don't have the money right now, so this is perfect for me!
Really enjoyed it, both me and my brother are done with it so not sure whether to sell or to hold onto it in case I’m brave enough to attempt hard mode.
@HobbitGamer you got alot of nerve showing up in this comment section. You got a license for that dirty comment?
@NintendoByNature I heard that that comment is illegal in 11 states.
@HobbitGamer ironically it competes with Samus Returns as one of the longest Metroid games. They’re just short games in generally. They’re meant to be replayed for better times. Which isn’t for everyone, if you don’t replay games it’ll be hard to get your money’s worth for $60.
@ShadJV Normally I would agree, but I still haven't finished my initial playthrough and I'd argue it's well worth $60. The game is just that good
I was considering waiting a year until it was on sale.... this demo may hook me and foil my plans.
@IceClimbers I mean definitely depends on the person, it was a high quality 11 hours for my first playthrough.
Not the biggest Metroid fan, but I’m gonna try this out.
Thanks Nintendo for the demo, you saved me some money, it convinced me not to buy it - it's too stressful and difficult.
To much hype for this game. Nothing special about it. If you have time to play different games skip this.
Smart move from Nintendo. As the hype starts to fall, hype it back up again with a demo and Tetris 99 theme to keep it charting well. Nintendo really seems to want it to become a major franchise for them and that's really nice to see tbh, especially as they don't have many more "mature" franchises. Bodes well for Prime 4.
Alongside the 3D Kirby coming up it's also just good to see franchises other than Mario, Zelda and Pokemon getting large budgets poured into them.
Won't try it till Mecury Steam gives those who worked on the game proper credit.
Never played a metroid game before I'll give it a go seen as it's free
@FishyS Nintendo games very rarely go on sale even years after release unless they flop
@ShadJV For me, it's hard to feel like I get that $60 out of most games. They have to compete against my hundreds of hours on the ME trilogy and Fallout games, so it's not fair to them. I had the same conflict about the Links Awakening remake. Metroid was great, and I've never died so much during boss fights and NOT get infuriated, so the risk reward payoff was just right. It probably only felt short because I was so into it while playing
@NintendoByNature I had a license, but I let your mom borrow it, ooooooo. winky mctinky smiley
This is great. I hope even more people try it and are convinced to buy the full game.
It is a great time to be a Metroid fan.
@tamantayoshi agree, 1 of the best game on on any console of the last 10 years for me
waiting for my amiibos pre-ordered months agoooo
@HobbitGamer for me, quality is way more important than quantity. And my tastes tend not to be mainstream. I took well over a hundred hours to complete BotW and there’s a lot of games 10 hours or less that I feel are more worth $60 for mr. My logic is BotW I loved maybe 20 hours of it at most, but scattered through the game. So I’d be kinda bored spending 2 hours wandering through the environment than have an exciting 10 minutes when I found something fun and then go back to being bored. The 10 minutes were worth the 2 hours for me (at least in an initial playthrough) and hypothetically they can be more fun than anything in the 10 hour game I loved, but the 10 hour game was consistently fun for me. I’d rather pay $60 for 10 consistent hours of fun than for 100 hours of average gameplay punctuated with short memorable moments. I find most games that are 100+ hours are like that for me, and nowadays I prefer the shorter games that don’t have dull moments… especially since I already don’t have enough time to get through every game that catches my eye.
I’m gonna go back to Dread for hard mode at some point, and now and then revisit it when I want to fit a 4-8 hour game in between bigger releases, but the 11ish hours it took me to 100% it were enjoyable enough that it more than earned its value to me.
Downloaded it
Nicest thing Nintendo did in months in my opinion.
@ShadJV Interesting. I've always gone on "the arcade method", where if I got 15 minutes for a quarter, I definitely got my money's worth. Even though Metroid isn't particularly long, I'm definitely gonna replay it over and over again, so it's worth it in my opinion.
Smart. Got the launch day/week impulse buyers getting the game already before testing with a demo to maximize opening sales.
Don’t need to worry about a few idiots on the internet with a following have a horrible take to sabotage the launch like with a pre release demo like what happened with a few games. Like imagine the GoW guy spreading the toxic before the game released lol
Now it’s a safe time for them to release a demo to attract the stragglers at this point.
@Would_you_kindly Not totally true.. even Odyssey and Breath of the Wild had eshop sales a year after release and occasionally afterward. Rare to be much more than 33 percent off for the main Nintendo games, but that's still a decent sale. Sometimes I can be patient and wait for 33-50 percent off, but hard to resist a demo which will then pull me in. XD
It's not really my kind of game, but I'm glad I got to try it out. I guess I'm just not into having to avoid invincible enemies and constantly counter rushing enemies.
"Happy Halloween! Nintendo Has Released A Free Metroid Dread Demo"
It's a demo, shouldn't it be free
@ObeseChihuahua2 Even Russia?
I'll now give it a go. I have never liked Metroid tho so I'm not expecting that to change.
10 minutes into the demo and I am hooked. rip game budget.
Oh, I like that Metroid pumpkin!
Imo games shouldnt even be allowed on the eshop without a demo.
The game is coming under my christmas tree, so I'll give a pass to the demo ! But very nice for all of those who are not sure about buying this new one !
While I bought it without question, this sort of thing should be mandatory for any game. As a kid them PlayStation demo discs were my way of deciding which game I truly wanted.
@Pirate1 that Nintendo for you. they try to push it, even weeks later. if needed.
@FishyS yeah. they might have got you...
Game of the year for me…..absolutely awesome especially as you progress and become more and more powerful, the gameplay develops a rhythm to it that’s almost hypnotic.
@NoTinderLife "Thanks Nintendo for the demo, you saved me some money, it convinced me not to buy it - it's too stressful and difficult"
Same, honestly. Trying to kill Emmi and continuously going through that cut scene (it won't let you skip until its nearly done) wasn't fun for me. Think I prefer 3D Metroid games really.
Someone must have done a speedrun of the demo by now, surely?
@Would_you_kindly I got MK8DX and Super Mario Odyssey on sale. Any Nintendo game except for Pokémon will eventually go on sale.
a demo for Metroid Dread? this is nice if you are unsure about buying this game, since i am a Metroid fan since Metroid Prime 1, i don't need a demo to covince me to buy this game, soon i will buy/play Metroid Dread.
@HobbitGamer I see it as a quality-over-quantity thing. Yeah, you can beat Dread in a short amount of time but I had more fun over that time than I had playing much much longer games.
THAT BEING SAID... I took my sweet ass time on my first playthrough, backtracked a lot, explored a lot, tried to find as many items as possible and it ended up taking me around 18 hours to beat, which doesn't seem short to me. So I really think it depends on a person's play style.
It’s on my Xmas list from Santa, so I guess playing the demo will be like sneaking a peak through the wrapping paper before a Boxing Day 😏
I’ve been trying really hard not to buy this… damn you Nintendo!
Maybe I won’t like it…
Just played it as I won't get the game until Xmas. Really enjoyed it
Finished it last night at about 1am and I have mixed thoughts. For mostt of it I'd give it a 9 or 10. Loved the exploration, world design, atmosphere and most of the bosses. But..... sometimes I'd drop that score pretty low. The final boss was just brutal and felt overly long and too reliant on incremental progress. I don't believe that anybody could beat it on their first attempt because it required too much memorisation. I know, I know "get good", and I did, but I have less time and patience these days. Then there are the EMMIs which I found to be too reluant on luck frankly and something of a chore with their essentially one hit kills. Walking through a door or dropping down on to one from a height and being forced to keep replaying small sections repeatedly broke the fliw a bit for me.
Still a strong recommendation overall though.
Had the game preordered long ago. Has actually taken me a little while to really get in to it, but I’m loving it now. Looking forward to every chance I get to play it.
I hope this gets people to try it and buy it. I am loving this game. Finished it once and have started a second file and am playing it again (on normal mode, not sure if I’d like hard mode). I am enjoying the second play through too. I tried some of the basic designed in sequence breaks to change things up a bit. I actually like that it is shorter (relative to say Hollow Knight), because that is what made me give replaying it a shot.
Well, this was a nice surprise. I had been planning on getting the game yesterday, but through circumstances I couldn’t and so the demo is very welcome.
@HobbitGamer 😉😉🤪. Welcome back. Alot has changed round here. You'll notice that things happen pre and post 3pm bst
Wow! Suprised such a big game is getting a demo! Way to go! (NO EXCUSE TO NOT BUY)
As someone who hates the metroidvania genre this game has absolutely turned me around on them. Yes its tough but never unfair, I still haven’t finished it but its making me want to go and play super metroid and finally give it a chance
I hate hard games, which is why I haven't finished any Metroid apart from Zero Mission. I've put a lot of time into every 2D Metroid. But at some point the point was always reached where I had to admit that I am not good enough and have to give up. That's not nice in many ways. Time and money invested just to make you feel like a failure who is not good enough, something that millions of others seem so easy to do. Like most Metroid games for me, great on paper, unfortunately only for very good gamers in practice. That annoys me because, as I said, on paper, from the concept, I think the games are great. But the fact that you deliberately exclude so many players devalues a game enormously for me. From me therefore only a 5 out of 10. Since it is unnecessary and no longer appropriate to exclude players who are not so good.
I've had this game on my radar for a while, I really do want to get into the Metroid series, I tried Super Metroid but i kinda got stuck and forgot what I was supposed to do, might want to try and get back into
@Snatcher Fake Soviet Accent In Russia, controverisal comments write you.
I'm hoping for some dlc for Dread. While I do Enjoy Dread, I'm left wanting more. I would like to see more non-humanoid enemies/particularly bosses. I would really like to see Ridley yet again (I just like him). I would like to see Metroids (even if it doesn't work with the plot). I would like to pilot
the ship. I would like a few more returning enemies, not just the one in the trailer. I missed Zebezian space pirates. There should be more variety in the mother brains. It was a real missed opportunity that one didn't have a mechanical body. I also really wanted to see an SAX.
A free demo, huh? As opposed to what? A paid demo?
Can't afford it unfortunately, so no reason to tease myself..
Finished playing the demo about an hour and a half ago... really enjoyed it, and I would love to pick up the full game myself... but I lack the funds to get it right now. Guess I am going to have to add it to my wishlist, and get it whenever I can end up affording the game. Really think the game itself should cost like $40, since it is nothing more than a glorified GBA game (maybe 3DS game) that was released on the Switch. By what I have heard... the game isn't that long either, so there isn't much content to make it worth that $60 price point, especially for the common costumer. Who probably wouldn't try to speedrun or reply the game a billion and one times.
@FishyS there's a few games I've been waiting for a sale on , new super Mario Bros , mario maker & the Pokémon games
I preordered for the sweet coffee mug from Walmart.com and in the home stretch back track loot collection mode but I am curious about the demo. I hope it drives more players to towards this glorious game.
So Ninty decides to release a demo after the official game released. How smart...
@nessisonett I hope to sell my copy and flip it on Dying Light.
Well, I'm clearly in the minority here.
I played the demo last night, to close to completion ... And my interest in the game has significantly dropped.
1/ is there music? I even went to the settings to look for an option, but I didn't hear any in-game music.
2/ flashbacks of Metroid returns. The game is way too easy. The normal corridor enemies have no personality or challenge, unlike even the original enemies from Metroid 1. The rooms are to small.
3/ is this Metroid, or contra? Samus moves so fast, can aim anywhere, it no longer feels like Metroid - an exploration game. Run and gun?
4/ there is no dread with the Emmi, just frustration. Mistime and it's game over. Sigh.
5/ even more emphasis on the "counter" attack, including the run + counter.
6/ I can only presume the demo has a cut down intro compared to the original game. It's confusing and messy. Past or present ... Did I miss something from a previous game?
7/ The "omega" beam controls were awful, unless I missed something.
Same old comments - maybe I'm just too old school, and too connected to the old games. Metroid is not about bosses, it's about exploration. It needs a certain amount of challenge when exploring. I don't like the direction this is moving in.
Off my wish list for now. Bring on SMTV ... And Silksong.
It's a bit late, but I JUST realized that this may have because of Mario Party Superstar potentially overshadowing Dread. They're certainly different titles, but Superstars is undeniably a bigger beast, and this helps keep some attention on Metroid.
I was skeptical about the game due to hating everything Mercury Steam has put out but it's back on my radar now after playing the demo. Outside of a couple of minor quibbles, it's clear that the game is extremely polished and worthy of the Metroid name. I'm still not convinced it's worth $60 but I'll definitely pick it up if I can get it on sale for 50.
