Re: Soapbox: Switch Is Only A Classic Or Two From Being The Perfect PlayStation History Lesson

WiseGuy3683

I agree with this. To add onto this talking point though, as a physical game collector, Switch has become my go to system to collect games on because there's so many games from generations past that I can get physically on it. I have nearly every compilation game released so far and that has given me access to the Megaman series, the Mana series, the Street Fighter series, Sega Genesis classics, SNK Classics, Atari Classics, Neo Geo Pocket Color Classics, Namco Classics, Capcom Beat Em Up Classics, etc. etc.

And then I have so many stand alone ports from older systems ranging from PS1, PS2, PS3, 360, Dreamcast, N64, retro PC's... like if you're a physical collector that wanted to get into collecting older games physically but didn't want to shell out the ridiculous amount of money to acquire older games, the Switch is an absolutely insane system to have. Sure, it doesn't have everything. Yes, there's some classic games like Castlevania: SOTN that still haven't made it to the system. But the system has so many classics, on top of an excellent exclusive lineup, and on top of so many modern 3rd party games from both publishers and indies, it's hard to go wrong with this system.

Even if you're not a you're not a physical game collector and you just want to dabble in something different than the big Nintendo titles or mainstream 3rd party published games, the extensive game catalog is the biggest we've ever seen on a dedicated game console to date giving you far more options than any prior Nintendo system even got close to offering. I'm currently at 1031 physical games on Switch. I have at least 60 more than I know about that I'm interested in. The games just keep coming.

Re: Poll: Will You Be Getting The New Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Switch OLED?

WiseGuy3683

No and No. I already got the Monster Hunter Rise Special Edition Switch. No, it isn't OLED but it has the new chip in it and it has better battery life than both the OLED and Lite models, which at the end of the day, for a portable system, more battery life trumps a better screen. Also, while I like Legend of Zelda, I like Monster Hunter more. Furthermore, I'm not interested in getting a new Switch at this point considering the next system is probably right around the corner.

As for the Pro Controller, it looks nice, but again, I have the Monster Hunter Rise Pro controller(s) and the Xenoblade Pro controller. That's more Pro controllers than I need already. At this point, I'd rather just save the money for games I want rather than buying this just to collect more stuff I'm not going to use.

The only other Switch accessory I'll get at this point is the NYXI Wizard Wireless Joy-pad that looks like a GC controller and even that is a giant maybe considering how many games are coming out this year that I want.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Mind If Nintendo Retired The 'Big' Nintendo Direct Format?

WiseGuy3683

What I'm expecting is, unlike before where we see a full fat Nintendo Direct every 3 months or so, I think going forward that we'll see 1, possibly 2 of the full fat Nintendo Directs a year with partner showcases, Indie Showcases, Direct Mini's, and game specific Directs being the bulk of how they showcase things. I'm not expecting the next full fat Nintendo Direct until next year, probably for the reveal of their next system and showing off the games for it.

Re: Best Of 2021: Remember When People Thought Switch Would Fail?

WiseGuy3683

It's funny, I remember seeing much of this from the media, hearing it from youtubers, and even hearing much of this from friends. As a tech enthusiast though, I found much of concerns to be misplaced and completely unfounded. Specifically the concerns about price, storage, and capabilities.

I don't say this in a mean spirited way or aimed at anybody in specific, but the lesson to be learned when it comes to Switch is also a lesson that many still haven't learned by the time the Xbox Series S came out. If you have no prior knowledge to tech specs or tech prices, you should either do the leg work, examine the market, and look up the tech before commenting or don't comment on the tech.

The same, this won't run, that won't run, it's holding gaming back, it's overpriced, it's too weak for X Y and Z that people said about Switch, many are saying about Xbox Series S. It's the same song and dance, every time. Honestly, it's really annoying.

Look, I understand as gamers, gaming enthusiasts, gaming youtubers, and gaming journalists our hobby/passion/job is gaming related. But if you don't know tech, you avoid PC gaming because you don't want to deal with the tech, you have no interest in learning tech or the tech market, and you can't be bothered to look up benchmarks or performance videos on youtube, stay away from tech talk.

It would be like if I ate a salad and felt that somehow gives me enough knowledge to have serious discussion about the pricing of seed, how to grow various vegetables, how long it takes to grow things, the pros and cons between having a local and organic farm vs mass production for a major supplier, global trade policy for produce, etc. No, I don't have that knowledge and I'm not going to pretend that I do. I like the vegetables, I'll eat them, I know the prices of buying them and can see fluctuations in the market on the consumer end, but I have 0 knowledge in farming, I won't pretend I do, and I'm not going to comment on these things as if I do.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Switch 'Pro' Reveal Expected Before E3, Out This Year

WiseGuy3683

We'll see. We've been hearing rumors about a Switch Pro since before we heard rumors about the Switch Lite. With that said, the likelyhood of it being real is extremely high due to the fact that Nintendo always releases a revision of their handhelds.

Also, I'm seeing a rumor that we'll get info tomorrow/later today. Coming from a reaction that Emily Rogers made to a conversation that Direct Feed Games had on Twitter.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo's 2015?

WiseGuy3683

3DS was above average. Wii U was below average. I thought both systems had some of the better games of this year but I felt 3DS was definitely the strong pillar.

3DS had more games to play that you just couldn't play anywhere else and had the benefit of a hardware revision that brings in a pretty good number of new features to reinvigorate interest. Wii U on the other hand, while there were some solid titles released both physically and digitally, the physical releases were way too few and far between, North America got shafted with no physical version of Fatal Frame and an extremely limited print of Devil's Third, the system never got that price drop it sorely needed, and feature wise Wii U has stagnated.

Amiibo's success has helped Nintendo but the supply issues and lack of good implementation in games have hurt Nintendo. The NX announcement and DeNA announcement have been really great and sparked all sorts of rumors and speculation. Though the Nintendo World Championships left many people feeling like kids again, Nintendo's E3 showing left many fans underwhelmed and wondering about Wii U. Nintendo's Creator's Program left a lot of people split with many different opinions on it. Mr. Iwata's unfortunate passing brought the industry together like I've never seen but left a hole in Nintendo that was so deep, it put them on radio silence for several months.

Ultimately, I didn't think this was Nintendo's worst year, I also didn't think it was their best year either. However, this year definitely goes to Nintendo when talking about exclusive games, breakout hits, headlining news, disappointing choices, and emotional moments.... Nintendo was a big roller coaster this year with some really high high's and some really low low's.
