Re: Believe, People - EarthBound Is Coming To The Virtual Console At Last

WiseGuy3683

If there's any 1 announcement that I can say I always wanted but never expected, this is it. The moment it's on the eShop will be the moment I download it and start playing. I always wanted this game when I was a kid but it was waaayyyy too expensive. Now I'll finally get the chance to play it (I don't use emulators) and I'm super stoked about it.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Handing Out Free Dev Kits To Generate Interest In Wii U

WiseGuy3683

I personally think hardware companies should be courting the devs like this as the more games on there system the more software sales, consumer interest, and hardware sales. Whether this is true or not though, I'm just glad to hear Nintendo is doing the opposite of what they did with the Wii and DS and they're courting the small devs. So many smaller games are on the way and I'm very excited.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Should Make EA Co-operation a Priority

WiseGuy3683

Read the article, I'll go ahead and say now, I really couldn't care less about EA or any other companies yearly titles. Imo, I'm sick of playing those games and I'm sick of hearing about them. Burning IP in the ground for the sake of getting sales is a horrible business strategy and in a day and age where companies can update and do DLC, it makes little to no sense to have "new titles" that use the same engine and are little more then a roster change (whether the roster be players on a field or weapons in your loadout).

I personally feel the Battlefield series is becoming the next CoD with the Publisher smearing the integrity of the IP and prepairing for the release of the next main series Battlefield which is way too early. They could easily just come out with an expansion as very little is changing graphically, look or gameplay wise.

As for Nintendo, I think they should be courting the other western devs and publishers, you know, the ones that don't run there series's into the ground and over the course of this previous generation have been taking away a lot of light from most the major publishers. Publishers and Devs such as Bethesda, 2K and Valve would greatly help Nintendo's reach for the gamer and would definitely help ease investor concerns. Also Nintendo's push for smaller devs and indies also is a great idea and imo something I think they're doing right.

Re: Phil Fish: I Love Nintendo In Ways It Probably Doesn't Deserve

WiseGuy3683

Look, you can have an opinion that is against what others like/prefer, it just needs to be worded well and be reasonable however it's never reasonable to bash one system and glorify the other. This is even more true when you consider the history of the series being on another portable previous to both 3DS and Vita (PSP) that didnt have 2 analogs, didn't have 2 screens, didn't have a touch screen and required a claw motion with your finger to control it.

Myself, I personally have no problem using the second screen and the software d-pad. I find it works well enough and actually find it easier to control then the Wii U version. The text is a bit hard to read though.

Re: Wii U Version Of Dead Island: Riptide "Not Worth It", Says Deep Silver

WiseGuy3683

I'm not sure if I'd get it or not. It seems to me most games are supported better on PC, which makes it hard for me to justify a purchase of most 3rd party multi platform games on a console. As for this game in general, I havent played the first one yet and I currently have Monster Hunter to hold me over, so I dunno if I'll be getting it at all.

Re: Microsoft Almost Purchased Sega In Order To Compete With Nintendo And Sony

WiseGuy3683

I always wondered why this never happened as the Dreamcast was powered by Windows. I also kind of feel that the Xbox and 360 took what the Dreamcast started and ran with it as far as online is concerned.

With that said, I'm glad the deal never happened and Sega never became what Rareware became. Now Sega games are enjoyed by all console companies, with the Wii getting some notable classics in the VC and Nintendo in general getting some awesome Sonic games and with PS3/360 getting some notable ports of DC and Saturn games and new games from Overworks, AM2 and a few other notable design teams.

I do miss Sega systems though, I miss chances on unique games and not the same game with a new twist syndrome which seems to of become popular in this closing generation. Dreamcast for life!

Re: Rumour: Monster Hunter 4 Delay Is Due To PS Vita Port

WiseGuy3683

I don't see how this is a problem at all. If anything it seems logical to me. I wouldn't be surprised if the game was released on both Vita and 3DS at the same time and I'd love to see cross platform play between the 2 systems with voice chat and a touch keyboard. I'd also like to see the game bundled with the CPP for 3DS and a bigger memory card for Vita.

Personally, I find the 2 systems pretty close graphically and wouldn't be shocked to see more games get ported between the 2. If anything, these 2 systems should be sharing their libraries.

Re: Talking Point: The Future Role of High Street Games Retailers

WiseGuy3683

I'm normally buying games online as I can get new games for cheaper usually HOWEVER in this past year especially, I got a ton of games from local game stores, a ton of games from normal stores, and a ton of games digitally through XBLA, PSN, the 3DS & Wii U eShop's, Humble Bundle, Indie Royale, and Steam.

It really comes down to the prices, normally the regular stores that sell games but aren't game stores have worse prices on games then everywhere else, however this summer I found myself rushing to Best Buy to take part in an incredible sale where I got a good 10, maybe 15 games for $100, which if I were to go to a game store, an online retailer, or attempt to get those games digitally, I would of payed much more. Same thing also happened with Kmart, as before Turkey day and even before the Wii U launch, they started selling games for pretty cheap and I snagged Super Paper Mario, De Blob 2, and Aliens Infestation for much better prices then I found anywhere else. Even really early in the year, Toys R Us had Skyward Sword for $30 when everywhere else had it for $50 which needless to say, I jumped on that too.

Of course, I still got a lot more at game stores, online and digitally but again, it's all about taking advantage of those deals.

Re: Fist of the North Star: Ken's Rage 2 Is Download-Only In North America, Too

WiseGuy3683

Me personally, I'm actually glad to see devs take advantage of the online stores. Sure the physical copy is always preferred but physical copies tend to go obsolete even during the same generation, they tend to get messed up to the point of not playing sometimes (which is usually a big deal when buying used games), and a lot of games tend to not do the numbers needed to justify a retail release, which in this case, I'd prefer to have the digital version than no version.

Re: The Big Wii U Survey

WiseGuy3683

That was fun. The Wii U is far from perfect but I do enjoy it. I'm highly enjoying the controller functionalities and the interface but I'm also questioning the choices for the horrible Wii emulation and lack of online features such as real time voice and text chat (not video chat) and cross game chat.

Re: Wii U Review Score Average Is Modest, At Best

WiseGuy3683

I think the biggest issue here is a lot of the games are ports of games that have been out for a while. This isn't to say that they're bad but critics generally are harder on ports then they are on new releases, especially if the new releases are new IP. Thing is, there will always the comparison to other versions or previous entrees into a series when reviewing games, even if that's not the intention.

With that said, when I look at this line up, even being a multi console owner, this is one REALLY strong launch line up, regardless of what the critics think. The system launched with CoD, Mario, Nintendoland, ZombiU (one of the few remaining legit survival horror games), Just Dance, Madden, Fifa, Mass Effect, Ninja Gaiden (the superior version by a long shot), Tekken, Darksiders, Batman, Scribblenauts, Epic Mickey, Assassins Creed, and many MANY other games. It's one of the strongest launches, ever, regardless of the critic bashing games for being slightly worse versions.

Re: Molyneux: Wii U Is Good, But It's Not Great

WiseGuy3683

While I don't think the Wii U is anything completely original, I DO think it's an awesome system with a lot more potential then people can even began to fathom.

Some people are quick to point out power being an issue but in reality, power in itself has really become the biggest issue with console gaming as developers spend so much money trying to take a system to its full potential and hardly make enough to keep the lights on much less move on to the next "big" project.

I believe Nintendo has noticed this and that another step like the one from last gen to this closing gens "HD" systems (PS2 to PS3 & Xbox to 360) will cripple the industry in the future as the cost of making games and interest from a potential audience will disappear. Me personally I feel high end graphics should be something that is sought after by the ever changing PC gaming market and let dedicated gaming systems offer unique experiences you can't receive anywhere else.

With that said, even though I don't think any 1 piece of the Wii U's controller, tech, or OS is unique however having it all together does deliver an experience that you can't get find any 1 piece of technology which helps make this system a stand out system that could shake up the industry. I know my money is on it.

Re: Iwata: We Don't Want To Emulate Xbox Live and PSN

WiseGuy3683

While I agree with him that consoles should separate themselves and have their own unique services, the fact of the matter is NOTHING he or anybody can say, will justify locking your user account to 1 single console. This in no way will benefit the gamer and the gaming experience.

Next on the note of Miiverse, while it is indeed different then XBL and PSN, it IS NOT new and original. It's very similar to what Steam is and has been offering for a while now. Not that that is a bad thing, but don't pretend it is something that it in fact is not.

Re: Talking Point: The Nintendo Network ID's Next Big Step

WiseGuy3683

I'm not a fan of the ID being bound to the console nor am I a fan of how the not so integrated Wii backwards compatibility/SD Card compatibility. These don't make the Wii U experience worse per say but definitely bring up some major complications. I personally think all can be changed in an update but question whether or not Nintendo will care to make them. My guess is questions about these topics will be pushed to the side by the press and when these topics do occasionally come up Nintendo will be very vague about it keeping people in the dark never doing anything, as usual.

Re: Talking Point: Life Without Wii U Achievements

WiseGuy3683

I don't see any harm in having an achievement/trophy/accomplishment built in for system wide profiles. Some people don't care about it and don't want it but those who don't won't be affected by it while those who do want it won't be getting it for a vocal minority that don't. Granted, if we have it or if we don't, it won't really matter either way but seeing a tally of unlockables across everything on your account that would of been built into the games with or without an account wide system isn't in anyway a bad thing.

Re: Talking Point: Games That Need Wii U - World of Warcraft

WiseGuy3683

As a MMO vet and a WoW vet with over 400 days of playtime, I honestly don't think WoW will work well on anything but a mouse and keyboard due to the input.

Even though the Wii U offers much more in terms of input options for MMO's then any other console out there, the fact of the matter is using the touch pad to access the bars would be similar to clicking the bars with your mouse and not using the keys or a gaming mouse. Ultimately it will gimp players making them vastly slower at being able to respond to things as well as it would make players on the Wii U easy kill targets in PVP.

WoW and games like it that use the bars rely on keybindings and without them, you can never really get everything out of the game.

Re: Wii U Pro Controller Feels "Amateurish", Say Kotaku

WiseGuy3683

I used it at the Wii U experience in Austin Texas and while I will say both the Pro controller and the Pad were much lighter then I was expecting, I didn't have any problems using either of them. Let's put it like this, if you used the CCP and the Sixaxxis controller no problem, then you shouldn't have any problems with this controller. Me personally I didn't find any problems during my play tests and felt right at home with the Pro controller. The pad really didn't take much adjusting either and I found the second screen helped a lot when playing Batman.

Re: Sony: Wii U Offering "Something That Vita and PS3 can do Quite Easily"

WiseGuy3683

It's like some sort of sick time warp. Replace Vita with PS Move....

Seriously though, the fact of the matter is, just like motion controls, the Wii U pad comes with the system meaning people won't have to purchase 2 separate consoles or sets of controllers to take full advantage of it. The PS3 + Vita combo IS possible but won't be used much by developers for the same reasons the PSMove wasn't.

The Vita is $250-$300 + $100 for 32 gigs of proprietary memory.
The PS3 starts at $250
This makes the entry price a minimal of over $500 including tax
That entry price will scare off most publishers who may be considering the control scheme

Okay, now let's look at the Wii U.

The entry price is $300-$350 and comes with 8 and 32 gigs internal memory respectively
Allows cheap standardized solutions for more memory
Comes with the pad controller offering a second screen right out the box
The second screen is seamlessly integrated into the system and is what most games will be built around
Is already getting a lot of support form 3rd parties

This argument / topic is just a rehash of the very similar one regarding the PSMove, which ultimately became victim to pitiful 3rd party support and Kinect's dominance due to Kinect daring to do something different with motion controls then what has already been done.

Let's look at the comparison between the Move and the Wii though. First the PSMove.

PSMove entry price is $100 + $50 per wand and + $30 per navigation controller (which isn't included)
$300-$400 for the PS3 at the time of the Move launch.
Some games use 2 wands to get the full experience and some 4 player games require the wands and navigation controllers
The advertisement for it was more of a secondary controller choice rather then a system within a system (like Kinect)
All of this was saw right through from developers and didn't get any real support.

Next the Nintendo Wii.

The Wii's entry price was $250
Every Wii came with a remote
Separate remotes were $40 and nunchucks were $20
Every developer who made a game on the Wii used this basic controller scheme meaning it had a lot of support

Again, you see the comparison. If it doesn't come right out the box, have a practical entry price, and/or isn't something actually new and different, you might as well forget it.
