Re: AI: The Somnium Files – nirvanA Initiative Announced For Nintendo Switch

Wargoose

I didn't enjoy the first game because the main characters were pretty unlikeable. That and it's attempts at comedy didn't really work, and kinda ruined any suspense in the murder mystery. It's a shame because the zero escape series was so good.

It was trying to be Yakuza meets Phoenix Wright. However both those series balance humour and drama.

Re: Video: Here's An Extended Look At The Streets Of Rage 4 'Mr. X Nightmare' DLC

@Razer for me it's the challenge of getting better at the game, and chasing high scores. Like any arcade game really.

Sin and Punishment 2 is another example, game can be finished in 5 hours, but finishing it on one credit while maximising your score, now that's a challenge that could lead to a play time of 100+ hours.

If you don't like the high score grind, that's fine, but this is what arcade games are built around. That one more run addictiveness. They're not RPGs where you gradually improve a character, they're action games where you learn to use the tools your given in the most efficient way possible.

Re: Ys IX: Monstrum Nox Gets A July Release On Nintendo Switch

Wargoose

@VoidofLight @Tyranexx Ys IX references previous games quite a bit, but not in a way that would require you to have played previous games to enjoy the story.

@Ooyah It's pretty good from what I've played so far. I think it's about even with VIII. There are some bits I prefer in each game.

Re: Ask Iwata: Words Of Wisdom From Satoru Iwata, Available Now And A Lovely Read

Wargoose

Iwata was the heart and soul of Nintendo. Someone who really fostered creativity. Look at the list of games Nintendo funded while he was in charge. Everything from Sin and Punishment 2, Pandora's Tower, Endless Ocean to Project Zero Maiden of Blackwater. So much variety.

The Iwata asks segments were great, having a former developer interview other developers was a great format. Gave you a chance to see behind the curtain.

And of course

Iwata: Laughs

Re: Japan Voted On Final Fantasy's Best Games And Characters - Do You Agree With The Ranking?

Wargoose

How I rank them

1. FFVII and FFVII Remake are my favourites.
2. FFX is great, but the random encounter rate is way too high, and some of the dialogue is just flat out bad.
3. FFVIII, it was a toss up between this and IX. I'm giving it to VIII because it's more memorable despite having way more flaws.
4. IX I like the artstyle, but the story is not as well paced as the games above, plus the limit break system sucks.
5. X-2 there's a couple of sections where I just mute the game, the songs are so bad. However the battle system and branching story was cool.
6. FFIV for me it's the best pre playstation era final fantasy, the story is simple but interesting.
7. FFVI it's alright, I just think there are too many characters with too little screen time.
8. FFV it's ok, outside of the job system it's just not that memorable.
9. FFXV the game is unfinished, I like the main party dynamic, but it's just a half baked game even with the DLC.
10. FFXII I hated the battle system, it's slow clunky, unbalanced and boring. The main character is also Vaan, enough said.

Re: 8BitDo Reveals Its New "Pro 2" Bluetooth Controller, Compatible With Switch

@Dirty0814 Sadly the compressed air/electrical contact cleaner is a temporary fix.

You do eventually have to replace the sticks. Which isn't as easy as people claim. The actual process of swapping the sticks is a bit fiddly, but quite easy. However getting the screws off the joycon is a nightmare. You're at the mercy of how tight they were screwed in. If you get a bad one that's particularly tight or glued in, the screw head will disintegrate and that's game over. I had 3 controllers drifting, managed to get the screws off one without damage. The other two are kaput.

Re: Controversial Rising Sun Design Removed From Street Fighter II's Re-Release

Wargoose

@GannonBanned Yeah I think we can all agree some Americans have an unhealthy obsession with flags in general. Symbols only have as much power as you personally give them.

The key point to this is, the creator of the game changed the design. It's the same as George Lucas changing the original trilogy. If the artist wants to change something, they're free to do so. It's their work at the end of the day.

Re: Controversial Rising Sun Design Removed From Street Fighter II's Re-Release

@Tedikuma

Yeah at the end of the day it's their work, they can do what they want.

The game was originally released in the 90's, was there uproar then?

I think in general folks need to to take a step back and chill about stuff like this. There are plenty of things to take a stand on, if you take a stand on every little thing, the important stuff gets diluted. It's a bit like the boy who cried wolf.

Re: Platinum Seems To Have Explained Why It's So Quiet About Bayonetta 3

Wargoose

@Kang81 I like to know what's on the horizon, and have stuff to look forward to. I don't need constant updates on projects, it's just nice to know cool stuff is on the way. If it wasn't for Bayonetta, Metroid and No More Heroes 3 being announced. There would have been very little reason for me not to trade in my Switch and put the money towards a next gen console.

Especially after last year's game drought. It felt like all that nintendo released last year was Animal Crossing, Mario Remasters, xenoblade remaster and another Musou game. I'm sure they released more than that, but it felt like 2020 lacked a big reveal.

I've got my fingers crossed for a proper direct soon
