I agree from a gameplay perspective Samurai Shodown is way more fun to play. However MK11 uses rollback Netcode so you'll get more playable matches online, and has a load of single player stuff and unlockables. MK11 just isn't that fun to play, it feels like a gimped version of MKX.
I ended up getting the digital version, didn't want to risk it. The original FFVII was one of my top 5 games of all time, the convenience of it being on the PS4 dashboard is nice. Can't wait for Episode 2.
Yeah same, I'll only get physical if it's significantly cheaper or cool looking limited edition. I've got too many plastic cases cluttering up my house as is.
I wish it was easier to gift people digital games. On PC it's easy, but on consoles less so, you'd think console makers would make it as easy as possible.
Really looking forward to this. This a game that always felt like it needed online multiplayer. I wonder what percentage of people ever played the original with a party of 4. I would guess 0.001% and that's probably being generous
@lovesushi I think it's great they're adding rollback to all these old games. It's so strange they haven't updated their modern games though. It would be great if the new Sam Sho, King of Fighters XIII and XIV got the same love
Personally I'm hoping SNK show off the new King of Fighters. I'm hoping they take a stylised approach, like they did with Sam Sho. Oh and rollback Netcode and crossplay would be awesome
Its actually hilarious, serves people right for spamming ed boon on Twitter. They get what they deserve lol. I'd love it if Sakurai added Waluigi as another assist trophy just to mess with the fans
@Varkster I can't really go into why FFVII Remakes ending is divisive without ruining it. Whether it's a good ending or not will hinge on the follow up. The last 2 hours of the game potentially change the direction of the plot in the 2nd part. It leaves you with the question 'what are they going to do now?'
As for the Xenoblade series, I rate the first game as the best in the series. The other 2 both have bigger faults. I think both follow ups have overcomplicated battle systems. They've both got really deep customisation, but very little reason to use it.
I really liked X's world, but the plot got increasingly silly as the game progressed. I like the stranded on a strange alien world vibe, you got in the first 20 hours of the game and the twist is quite good. They just do very little after that. X2 is ruined by awkward overly sexualised moments, and too many characters with hidden motivations.
The original is one of my favourite RPGs up until the point where you fall from the bridge between Bionis and Mechonis, from that point on I was really disappointed with where the story went.
@Varkster The only issue folks have with FFVII remake is the ending. Your reaction to it will depend on your outlook. I look at it like this, they've just turned 5 hours of gameplay in the original into a 40 hours worth of gameplay that arguably plays better than than any Final Fantasy game before it. They've kept true to the characters and added stuff that just makes you care more about what's going to happen to them. So I think they've earned the benefit of the doubt. Part 2 could definitely be kingdom hearts level bad storytelling, but it could also be great and I'm excited to see what happens next.
Definitely play it through. The boss battles are great, soundtrack is fantastic. Characters are on point. Cloud is actually funny, unlike what they did with him in advent children. It's a truly amazing game. The first Final Fantasy game I've really enjoyed since ffx-2. I'm playing it again on Hard mode. I completely agree with your points on FFXV by the way. For a game in development so long to be that average is crazy.
I'd love more stages/characters. I also think the walk speed could do with a small tweak. I Know they had issues with getting some cameos from Sega Games, but I personally think it would be great if they did a crossover with Yakuza. Have a level based on kamurocho with Kazama Kiryu and Goro Majima as unlockable characters
@TheLightSpirit I don't think the voice acting was terrible, I think the script was just really bad in some areas. It's been a while since I played the original, but it felt at times they were bludgeoning you to death with unnecessary exposition. I remember one scene where they said monado about 12 times in quick succession(slight exaggeration). I think it might be amplified for me as I'm from the UK, and some of the things they said sounded really unnatural. Also Dunban sounded a lot like Matt Berry, which made everything he said unintentionally hilarious.
The Last Story had the same studio do the VO, and the characters come across way more natural in that game
I'm lucky in that I've got a brother in law who will occasionally play Smash, but it's frustrating that this is still an issue in 2020.
The solution is even available open source. Yet still big developers like Namco and Nintendo, stick their heads in the sand and pretend the problem and solution don't exist. If people are curious folks can take a look at the list of games using rollback netcode by looking up GGPO on Wikipedia. Examples of games using it on Switch are Lethal League and Skullgirls.
The question is If Indie Developers can implement it, why can't Nintendo or Namco. I guarantee Tekken 7 and Smash have at least 10 times the budget of a Lethal League or a Windjammers.
I've got high speed fibre as well. I'm in the UK and the game I play most online at the moment is Samurai Shodown. If I get someone in the UK or France, most times it will play fine. If I end up being paired with someone in the US or Japan it doesn't matter how fast my connection is. There will be noticeable slow down. I think this type of issue is way more prominent in fighting games like Smash. I don't think I've ever noticed lag in Mario Kart for example, I'm sure it's there but it doesn't affect my enjoyment of the game. Where as in smash and SamSho, I've had games where you're character feels like they're walking through treacle.
The annoying thing is it's a software issue not a hardware one. SNK fixed the issue in Mark of the Wolves, Netherealm fixed it in Mortal Kombat X, and Arc System Works are fixing it in Guilty Gear Strive. Nintendo is a much bigger company than the 3 I just mentioned, you'd think they'd be able to do something similar.
Exactly I think they're just stuck in their ways. There's no excuse in this day and age. This problem was fixed a decade ago, it's time developers implemented it. I love playing Samurai Shodown but the number of bad connections you get with people's miles away, sucks the fun out of the game.
I don't understand the argument of you should just get a better connection. It's a two way street, delay based requires both players to have a good connection. Rollback makes bad connections playable, so why is anyone opposed?
Delay based Netcode which is what Smash Bros, Tekken 7, Soul Calibur IV, Dragon Ball Fighterz, and Blazblue use is fundamentally not as good as rollback netcode. If you come across someone with a naff connection, or someone half the world away with this setup you will notice the lag, and experience input delay.
Rollback Netcode which is what Killer Instinct and Mortal Kombat 11 use is a lot better as the game isn't constantly waiting for your opponents inputs. It allows you to play someone on the opposite side of the planet to you with little to no lag.
SNK recently updated Garou Mark of the Wolves from delay to rollback. Arc System Works are updating Guilty Gear Strive from Delay to Rollback. We just need Nintendo and Namco to jump on the common sense train.
The thing is they can just pay someone to fix it. They're one of the biggest companies in the world. Just hire someone with experience to implement it. SNK recently implemented it in Garou Mark of the Wolves, get the same team to take a look at Smash.
They should outsource implementing rollback to a different Studio. It feels like Smash Bros is currently being worked on by Sakurai and his PA. NAMCO helped develop Smash and none of their games use rollback netcode. Delay based netcode is ridiculous for a modern fighting game.
Game was clearly unfinished. I'm assuming Sega needed to hit targets so rushed it out. Glad they allowed the development team to finish up. As they've probably got a ton of flak directed there way, for something out of their hands.
@BulbasaurusRex it depends how the games coded. I've installed balance patches for fighting games where it's been multiple gigs just for changing really minor things like the size of some hitboxes.
Its a difficult one because a games never gonna be perfect on release. It's the nature of game development. You have to submit the game for release, and then you've got a month or so. In that time the Dev team will be constantly play testing it, and fixing anything they find. I much prefer a day 1 patch, to no patch at all, as it shows the team care. Back in the day we didn't have patches so were left with games with bugs permanently in the game. If they'd delayed it 2 weeks, they probably would have found something else that they could fix or polish.
This isn't always the case, like with sega rushing panzer dragoon out before the soundtrack was finished lol. I think we can all agree that was sega trying to make a quick buck. However when it's just bug fixes and balance changes I think thats fine.
Wow, I'm surprised a developer would be this silly. Seems like this will end up costing them a fortune, and good luck finding another publisher after this.
It's on my wishlist. I feel sorry for the developers, sega obviously needed some income sharpish and rushed it out. Hopefully they allow them some time to smooth some of the issues out.
Complaints about a shmups length do annoy me. I remember when Sin and Punishment 2 released, and people whinged about how 'short' it was. That game was sublime and was too long if anything. You're meant to be able to get through these games in one sitting.
@Commander91_YT I bought my joycon brand new from Argos, they worked for at least a year before they started drifting. From the articles I've read online. It seems to be wear and tear combined with dust which is the main issue. If the controller was faulty to begin with its a retailer issue. If its develops the fault over a year later, its a design/user issue. As I've owned over 30 controllers in my time, and only the joy cons have developed this fault. I'm gonna go with it being a design flaw.
@Dethmunk Play with them, then attach them to the console or put them In a draw with my other controllers. Not sure what else you'd do with a controller really. Like I've said previously I've owned consoles since the snes, and never had this kind of issue before. Maybe it's to do with the type of games people play. I've racked up the most hours on rocket league, xenoblade and fighting games. You shouldn't really have to avoid playing a game to preserve the controllers though. They should be fit for purpose
I think 3 pairs drifting out of 3 is either incredibly bad luck or a design flaw. I've been playing games since the 90's and never had this type of thing happen.
I've got two PS4 controllers, 3 Xbox one controllers, 3 Wii U Pro Controllers. 6 Joycon. 6 Joycon drift, all the other controllers work fine. So I think it's a Joycon centric fault. Not saying other controllers don't drift, just saying the failure rate seems significantly higher in joycon.
All of my 3 pairs drift, I've tried the contact cleaner. But the fix is temporary. I can't believe how shoddy the controllers are, never had this issue with any other console. I've bought an 8bitdo receiver so I can use my Wii U Pro controller. I don't fancy tangling with Nintendo UK, they're not the most helpful.
Is he allergic to carbs or something. Nintendolife should send him pizzas on mass to bulk up. I understand working so late that you're fatigued, but when you're passing out because you're not eating and drinking right. Thats not commendable, its in contention for a Darwin award. Worst case scenario, You can drink and eat at your desk.
Also why is he working so long anyway. His team have 6 characters and 6 stages to create a year. They're not exactly pushed for time. Take some time to chill.
I wonder if it has something to do with it releasing on other consoles. Nintendo probably doesn't want to be seen to be releasing games elsewhere. This might even be them testing the waters.
It sounds like Platinum are ready to show it off. Nintendo are likely holding it until they can get the most eyes on it. The way they're talking, sounds like it will be out this year. I think based on the initial trailer of Bayo being cut in two, I'm expecting the whole game to be 2 player co-op.
I agree that the hunter would be a bit meh due to the lack of character. However the move set would likely be more fun than a Palico. The hunter was fun to play as in Marvel Infinite.
I think if Nintendo could get Sora in, they would do it. He always comes near the top of character polls. A lot of people clearly want him in.
Judging from this I'd say Crash Bandicoot is almost a lock for season 2. He looks like he's popular internationally. It's weird how unpopular Rayman is in Japan.
I'd love Dante to be included, Bayonetta vs Dante would make for an epic reveal trailer.
It feels like we're paying for a service, that is significantly worse than the Wii U. Cloud saves, I've never really understood the need for. I don't think I've had a save file corrupt. The online infrastructure is substandard. The retro game service, is a pale imitation of the Wii U, which in turn was a pale imitation of the Wii. They should have their entire back catalogue available for purchase(excluding those with legal obstacles). People want to give you money nintendo.
It feels like musou games peaked at Dynasty Warriors 4. I really liked the hidden side missions in that game. It doesn't feel like the formula has improved since then.

I think we'll get some info on windjammers soon. I think they were holding off on promoting until SOR4 was out the door.
Personally I'm hoping Windjammers 2 has crossplay, and a match request feature. So you can play single player while you wait.
Also it would be nice if they had unlockables like different discs, and character costumes. To keep it fresh.

Re: Talking Point: Is Nintendo Switch Online Good Value Compared To PlayStation Plus And Xbox Live Gold?
It feels like we're paying for a service, that is significantly worse than the Wii U. Cloud saves, I've never really understood the need for. I don't think I've had a save file corrupt. The online infrastructure is substandard. The retro game service, is a pale imitation of the Wii U, which in turn was a pale imitation of the Wii. They should have their entire back catalogue available for purchase(excluding those with legal obstacles). People want to give you money nintendo.
Re: Review: Warriors Orochi 4 Ultimate - An Iterative Update For Hardcore Fans Only
