Spike Chunsoft has just announced AI: The Somnium Files – nirvanA Initiative is coming to Switch in Spring 2022.
It's a sequel to the original 2019 detective mystery adventure release. The reveal trailer has also confirmed a physical edition is on the way, including a collector's version which comes with multiple goodies. And here's the backstory:
"Six years ago, the right half of a corpse was discovered under mysterious circumstances. The left half was never found...until six years later, when it was discovered completely fresh with no signs of decay, as though the victim was alive until just recently. Now, newly-appointed Special Agent Mizuki and her AI partner Aiba are tasked to solve the bizarre Half Body serial killings..."

A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.

AI: The Somnium Files is right up there as one of my favourite games of the last few years. It was so good. It ends so perfectly so I didn't really feel like it needed a sequel but I'll absolutely take one anyway, very exciting.
There was also an image released of the left side of the body!
Lol, the previous title is still in my backlog.
Go play the first game, you have no excuse.
Cool game - glad it’s getting a sequel.
Sweet. 2022 is just getting better and better.
This is a really surprising announcement! I enjoyed the first one a lot even though the plot was over-telegraphed and some characters sucked (Iris, ugh). It’s a fantastic sign that they’re making the next one about Mizuki!
Hell yes, the first one was awesome
Ooh, great news! Haven’t played the first one yet but I did really like the demo and it’s been on my list for a while.
Very excited this is now a full series.
So, I actually got home to watch the trailer. She's play 999 on her Switch-thing at the start there! I wonder if they're teasing a release of The Nonary Games collection?
Oh! Out of nowhere!! I'm excited. The first one was a brilliant, memorable experience.
First game was great, this is a pleasant surprise.
Very excited for this game, I loved the first game.
Just wondering how the chemistry between Mizuki and Aiba will be like. Date and Aiba were perfect together!
Cool! The first game was good! Will check this one out.
Having played all 3 Zero Escape games and AI: The Somnium Files, I’m properly excited for this one. Hope it runs better than the original on the Switch.
I watched a playthrough of the first game and then I bought it to play for myself but I haven't gotten around to it. The story was really good though. I'll have to finish it for myself before this comes out!
Yes ....also goddammit yes!
The first game is excellent, so yes please.
@Bizaster I think I see what you did there. Nirvana reference?! (cuz of the game's title?)
SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS GAME!!!! T_T
Those weirdos at Spike Chunsoft make some of my absolute favorite modern games!!!!!
Since this game is cellshaded: Is this a 2D or a 3D game?
I have to know since I’m deciding how much I’m willing to pay for this game.
Edit: just bought the first one, which I’ll start somewhere this year . Good to know that if I like it I can immediately continue the story.
Cheeky, isn’t the sequel to VA-11 HALL-A known as N1RV ANN-A or something?
I didn't enjoy the first game because the main characters were pretty unlikeable. That and it's attempts at comedy didn't really work, and kinda ruined any suspense in the murder mystery. It's a shame because the zero escape series was so good.
It was trying to be Yakuza meets Phoenix Wright. However both those series balance humour and drama.
I’m pretty excited for this one! I didn’t expect a sequel ever, but I’ll gladly play it.
I always thought Mizuki would be a much better lead than Date, so I'm even more excited for this one.
Wooowwww. Welcome back Aiba😍
Hopefully having a main character that isn't a pervert will solve one of the biggest problems with the original game. Definitely looking forward to this!
It’s a great time to be a VN fan.
A lot of announcements recently feel like they are catering to my niche. Dragon Quest III, then SMTV Danganronpa and Super Robot Wars 30 at E3. Now this!
Hell yea!! I cant wait to see Mizuki and Aiba’s relationship, and how they interact compared to aiba and date. I need to play the first game for myself now, I’ve only ever watched playthroughs, but I gotta refresh my memory for this. I’m excited!!
Sweet! Looking forward to this one.
@Ralizah so how good is the AI: The Somnium Files game? Does it run good on Switch? How is the story and how are the characters?
@anoyonmus I never completed it (I plan to rectify this soon), but it's a fairly engaging point-and-click sci-fi adventure game. I didn't have any issues with the Switch port, but I'm sure it probably runs smoother on other platforms.
What I played wasn't intense and mind-blowing like Uchikoshi's ZE games (the first two, at least), but if you like detective stories and/or near-future sci-fi, you should enjoy it.
@Ralizah Ok then. Perhaps I MIGHT get this eventually. But I need to get Danganronpa on Switch first. Have you tried it on Switch? If so, how does it run
@anoyonmus Haven't tried Danganronpa on Switch, but the games ran fine on the far weaker PS Vita, and I haven't heard any crying about bad performance, so they probably run OK.
@Ralizah you do realize these technically aren’t Vita ports right? The Switch version is based off the mobile versions of the games. I mean on YouTube I have seen people complaining about some lag and crashing in the games
@anoyonmus Well, yes, but they're still the same PSP/Vita adventure games at bottom. Anyway, all I said was that "I" haven't heard complaints. If people are showing off technical issues, then you should probably defer to them. Although then you'll probably want to get a sense for how representative those videos are of everyone's experience.
@Ralizah Idk man. Some people say there are some technical issues in the ports and others say the ports on Switch run just fine. So I don't know what to believe in now. What should I do
