Xenoblade Chronicles X Starfox Zero Virtual Console games Wii backwards compatibility
I think at this point if you've not got a Wii U, it's not worth it. As you've likely not got enough time before the eshop closes to make good use of its best feature.
@Clyde_Radcliffe Just out of curiosity how many characters and stadiums are in the gamecube game compared to the Switch game. Is it significantly different. Were there more unlockables and things to do in the gamecube game?
@Crono1973 I picked up Metroid Prime Trilogy and Pandora's Tower as I'd rather spend £35 on downloads rather than £100+ on getting them physically. Yeah my Wii U could break in 10 years, but then a physical copy of a game could also break. By then they'll probably be another download version of said games, and buying said games 3 times in a lifetime is probably the cheaper option.
@moodycat @CorePrideX Yeah play-asia is super pricey, once you add on taxes. I ended up ordering River City Three Kingdoms Saga, which would have cost me £48,I added the previous game in the SD gundam series on PS4 to get free shipping, and it cost me just over £60. I can justify 2 games for £60, not so much 1 for £48.
@Rykdrew I play Rocket League as weĺl, not every game released needs to adopt that model.
NBA Jam and Lethal League Blaze, are just as much fun if not more so than rocket league. I've played them for 10 hours max, compared to 200+ on rocket league. Not every arcade game needs a million season passes.
Longevity is not the be all and end all. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is 140 hours long easy, Ys VIII is less than half that playtime. Which is more fun?
If you're not happy with the amount of content offered. Don't buy until it's got the 33% discount. Nintendo offers once a year. If that's still too expensive, vote with your wallet and don't buy it.
Modern gamers seem to want every game to be a 100 + hour jrpg, whatever the game. An arcade sports title really doesn't need a million modes. Is it it fun to play with a group of friends for an hour on a weekend, now and then. If the answer is yes it ticks enough boxes for me.
I'd be interested to see what the person who did the hands on thought of Xenoblade 2's story.
As for me it felt very melodramatic, and didn't actually make me care that much about the characters. Is this a significant improvement, or slightly better.
Basically in this one whats the JRPG script Cringe factor out of 10?
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 being about an 8. Kingdom Hearts 2 being an 11.
Finished Xenoblade 2 and Xenoblade X with only a basic understanding of the mechanics.
Monolithsoft, the masters of awful UI and none existent tutorials. I still have no clue what any of the skell stats mean in XenoX, and I might as well have been picking acessories at random in Xeno2. The layers of blade arts, accessories and combo effects are just mind boggling.
I fully recommend playing the games for the anime spectacle of it all, by the way.
Nintendo asked the Burnout developers to pitch them an F-Zero game, but they didn't have time/extra manpower to develop it. So it's not for a lack of trying. They just need a developer who actually wants to make it.
Microsoft has a similar issue, they want to make a new Killer Instinct, but don't have a team to do it.
@Magician I'm from the UK, I think the terms were more interchangeable in the 90's. Nowadays most people I know would call a game like Streets of Rage or River City Ransom a Beat'em up. Street Fighter or Guilty Gear a Fighting game or 2D fighter.
@CharlieGirl Yeah it's an odd niche, but one that seems to be really popular for some reason. It seems like 2 of these games release on the eshop every week. Someone must be buying them.
I just don't understand the market, why pay for a bad game with some softcore smut.
My issue with Xenoblade as a whole is you very rarely have to use the systems they've put in place. Xenoblade X and 2 have so much going on when in battle, but you win 98% of the time by doing completely random blade combos. And you win pretty quickly as well, so outside of the optional superbosses and late game stuff, there's very little reason to learn.
@Lyricana my issue was I played for about 90 hours and couldn't really tell you what the villains motivations were. It just didn't give me much of a reason to care. It felt like there was going to be a twist, that made all the vague villain conversations make sense. The trouble is its a 140 hour plus game. I don't fancy playing it twice just to make sense of half the dialogue. I personally don't have that kind of time anymore.
I'm hoping the storytelling is better than Xenoblade 2's, even by jrpg standards it was a confusing mess. That and the Nopon sexbot stuff, can probably be left on the cutting room floor.
Interesting, I wonder what it will be like. Online Crazy Taxi could be really good. Fortnite is a great model to follow. Free game for everyone, except those that feel a need to spend stupid amounts of money on a spiderman themed taxi.
On the one hand, I don't like their limited run business model, it just feels like it needlessly inflates the price of physical media. A game like River City Girls is so good it should just be getting a standard wide physical release.
On the other hand they're bringing back great games, that aren't accessible anymore. Which if you ask me is more than a fair trade.
If anyone's reading this from limited run, I would love a Super Dodgeball (neogeo version) release. It's impossible to buy, and it's great fun. That and someonebring back Powerstone.
@Ashunera84 it works by predicting what's going to happen between when transmitted data arrives. If for whatever reason the prediction is wrong, then the next bit of data is transmitted it corrects itself based on the buttons that were actually pressed.
Fighting games are really well suited to it. If it's implemented correctly, its like playing a game offline without any lag/pauses. It's a night and day difference, and not only makes for a smoother experience but also allows you to play people further away.
Guilty Gear Xrd uses traditional delay based netcode, I can't play my Brother who lives 100 miles away without the game occasionally pausing. Guilty Gear Strive uses rollback, and it's basically like playing offline.
@Troll_Decimator @victordamazio I loved the remake, thought the battle system was great and the story for the most part was really well told.
It's not a remake, if you've finished the game you realise its clearly not a remake, its a sequel. If they'd positioned it as that, I don't think they'd have received half the criticism they did.
I'd say it's easily the best final fantasy game since the PS2 era, and my friend who'd not played FFVII before loved it as well. Guardians of the Galaxy received universal praise, and FFVII Remake is arguably better in every single way including pacing.
@Turbo857 I think it's the auto aim feeling a bit iffy, jumping on enemies being a bit hard to judge, and the dodge being on the dpad rather than a button, plus aiming at the screen taking a little too long to register.
The combination of all these elements, makes the combat feel a bit loose to me. It feels like I'm brute forcing my way through enemies, rather than picking them off in a elegant way.
I might get used to it, I've only been playing for a couple of hours.
I've actually just started playing Other M. I was put off by the bad reviews back in the day.
Let me say, as a big fan of the series, it's really bad so far. It looks great, but there are significant issues.
-The storytelling is so heavy handed. Samus's inner monologue is particularly bad. She makes Squall' s inner monologue in FFVIII look good. -Combat is flashy but feels like it lacks substance. -Backtracking is annoying and confusing, but not in a good way. I quite like backtracking, but having doors open randomly because you triggered a cutscene in another area, is just bad game design.
@The_New_Butler I remember playing the original, and they had a watercolour filter over stuff in the distance. So maybe they've got rid of that, or it doesn't work quite as well in HD.
The highlights for me were the dungeons and the storytelling. That and I liked the motion controlled sword mechanics.
@SwitchForce you posted 10 minutes after the article posted, at 3:30am UK time. People just want their £60 controllers to work for more than a year. If there's an easy fix that's great news, hopefully nintendo takes note and amends the design going forward.
Good to know there's potentially a more permanent fix out there for people. I've personally got rid of my 4 sets of joycon. I would advise against a DIY solution unless you're experienced with electronics. I attempted to swap the joysticks on mine, and the tiny screws got damaged and stuck.
@Vortexeo I agree, the gameplay just isn't for me. The battle system seems both overly complicated and overly simple at the same time. The story telling is also really bad. Every character has a hidden motivation, for the sake of being mysterious.
Deadly Premonition is on the bad side of mediocre in terms of gameplay but it's charming in its own way.
Fragile Dreams makes deadly premonition's gameplay look like Bayonetta or Sin and Punishment 2 in comparison. Yes it's that bad. Still there's something about it that sucks you in.

@Stocksy Yeah looks like it's a code a day, until the end of March
Re: Random: Masahiro Sakurai Says He Prefers To Buy Video Games Digitally
Bit of both, I'm not here for "Collectors" artificially inflating the used game market.
£100+ for devils third, nah mate. I'll pay £29.99 on the eshop, and have the same crappy experience. Wish fragile dreams had a digital version
Nowadays most physical editions don't even come with a manual. So I really don't see the point in hoarding bits of plastic.
My KOF XV collectors edition is awesome though.
Re: Feature: WayForward On Expanding The 'River City Girls' Universe, And Future Plans
I think I'm gonna pick this up next time play-asia do free shipping on orders over $50.
Re: Grandia Teases "Exciting Celebrations" For 25th Anniversary
I'd take a new game, or a collection of the other two games. Grandia 1 is one of my favourite games. I wouldn't mind an artbook either.
Re: Bowser Jr. And Birdo Star In Mario Strikers: Battle League's Third Free Update
@sixrings I guess the question is does it have more content than the two previous games yet.
I really liked strikers on the Wii. So if it's as good as that now, if might be time for me to open ze wallet.
Re: 23 Best Wii U eShop Games You Should Get Before They're Gone Forever
@Dman10
I think the reasons to own a Wii U are mainly.
Xenoblade Chronicles X
Starfox Zero
Virtual Console games
Wii backwards compatibility
I think at this point if you've not got a Wii U, it's not worth it. As you've likely not got enough time before the eshop closes to make good use of its best feature.
Re: 23 Best Wii U eShop Games You Should Get Before They're Gone Forever
Here's a couple more for the list...
The Fall - Great atmospheric puzzle game.
Scribble - Great little party game
Re: SNK vs. Capcom Revival On The Cards, Both Parties Apparently Interested
@Rykdrew But then KOF XV is more fun than Street Fighter V in my opinion. I think either would do a pretty good job if they put effort in.
Re: SNK vs. Capcom Revival On The Cards, Both Parties Apparently Interested
@ecco6t9 KOF XV launched with 39.

I really enjoyed the Joseph section of the anime. Currently watching the Jotaro part, it's still good, but nowhere near as funny.

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting A Switch OLED Or Valve Steam Deck?
@Gryffin Yeah online play is fine. I mean local multiplayer. When you've a few friends over. It's just extra effort by the nature of PC gaming.
If they release a dock for this it might encourage me to buy more games on Steam. As it would be way cheaper than buying on console
Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting A Switch OLED Or Valve Steam Deck?
Steam deck actually looks really cool. I'd buy more steam games if it was easier to play local multiplayer
I don't really see the point in the oled switch. Definitely not worth the cost of an upgrade.

Re: Talking Point: Everyone Has A Bad Game They Love, So What's Yours?
Final Fantasy the crystal bearers. It's pretty bad all round, but there are glimmers of good ideas. Epic Mickey is the same.
Re: Talking Point: Everyone Has A Bad Game They Love, So What's Yours?
@NinChocolate codename steam is just unpopular, it's a pretty well made and enjoyable game. It doesn't really have any major flaws.
Re: Talking Point: Everyone Has A Bad Game They Love, So What's Yours?
Romance of the Three Kingdoms series. It's basically a spreadsheet disguised as a game. Still played them for ages, and strangely enjoyable.
Re: Talking Point: Everyone Has A Bad Game They Love, So What's Yours?
@moodycat A game can be anti-fun to play, but strangely compulsive.
Re: Talking Point: Everyone Has A Bad Game They Love, So What's Yours?
@harouhiko The single player I thought was awful, but I really enjoyed the multiplayer
Re: Talking Point: Everyone Has A Bad Game They Love, So What's Yours?
@Vortexeo I agree, the gameplay just isn't for me. The battle system seems both overly complicated and overly simple at the same time. The story telling is also really bad. Every character has a hidden motivation, for the sake of being mysterious.
That said I've played it for 120 hours lol
Re: Talking Point: Everyone Has A Bad Game They Love, So What's Yours?
Two games come to mind.
Re: Feature: Treasure Games That Need Switch Ports Or Sequels
Sin and Punishment 2 is the best on rails shooter ever, would love a sequel.
