Re: Mini Review: Rayman: 30th Anniversary Edition (Switch) - Nicely Orchestrated But Misses A Key Note

Ursaking

@gcunit It's a total deal-breaker for me. This game was my childhood obsession for years and the lack of the original music absolutely ruins it. They didn't even try to recreate the original music faithfully, which is beyond lazy. A few tracks have been recycled and given a jazzy coat of paint, but the rest is original and terrible. I can't believe this is composed by the same guy who did the fun soundtracks for Origins/Legends.

Re: Rayman: 30th Anniversary Edition Is "The First Step" In The Platformer's Comeback

@AussieMcBucket I only played the PS (for a little bit) and PC version (many, many times) and the levels seem to be different, so it's like 2 different games. As a kid I only had the PC version so that's really the only one I know well. They're still decent platformers in their own right, just not presented the way as they were originally released.

Edit: I quickly fired up the PS version to check and it seems to be the same as PC so far except some sound effects are different. It starts to differ drastically once you get to Band Land with assets that are never used in the PC version.

@AussieMcBucket I bought it and it sucks, mainly because of the music. I had the PC version back when it first came out, I was absolutely obsessed with Rayman for years as a kid. I completed the whole game numerous times and was constantly drawing the characters. This re-release is rubbish. They composed entirely new music for it and it feels so wrong. The old PC version soundtrack was a series of short tracks that all played in order and then looped. This game takes a single short track and loops it over and over. And it's not even the original music, it's some weird jazzy version of the original. It also puts a hideous filter over the game by default which looks nothing like the game looked in the 90's. I didn't experience any crashes but I only played the PC version and not for too long because the music was making me angry. If you don't have an emotional connection to the game, you may like it. If you're hoping for a nostalgia kick, try and locate the original CD-ROM instead. That's what I'll be sticking to.

Re: Talking Point: When Did 'Good Enough' Become Good Enough For Pokémon?

Ursaking

People who constantly whine about the old games being superior in every way are blinded by nostalgia. I've never played Pokemon back in the day, my platforms of choice were Amiga/PC/Sega. I only played the original Pokemon games many, many years after the fact and they were so boring I never even finished any of them. No rose-tinted goggles to elevate them to a godlike status for me. The DS era was better, the 3DS era I loved (still play Ultra Sun and X occasionally), the Switch has been great. Yeah, S/V was a trainwreck performance-wise but the gameplay loop was fun. Arceus is still the best Pokemon game ever for me. I really want to love Z-A but the city just looks boring and I constantly get lost in it because there are no landmarks to make areas memorable. The combat also really needed a dedicated dodge button for your Pokemon.

Bottom line: you play Pokemon because it's a comfort thing. You get exactly what you expect and nothing more - running around and catching monsters. If you want something intense, original, with unpredictable story, why are you playing Pokemon?

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Mario Kart World?

It's great and I'm having more fun with it than I thought I would. My kids are appreciating the split-screen and on the easiest difficulty there's so much help with steering and tricks that even my 2-year-old thinks he's an amazing driver. Honestly, last time I enjoyed a racer this much, I was playing Sonic Racing Transformed.

Re: PSA: Don't Fall For This New 'Wukong' Game On The Switch eShop

Ursaking

Perhaps Nintendo could actually start reviewing and vetoing these rip-off/shovelware titles. There are SO many on Switch and it wastes so much time to scroll through them to get to the good stuff. If only we could blacklist certain developers and all their products. Please, please make it a feature on Switch 2!

Re: Opinion: The Hyped-Up New Pokémon TCG Set Is A Total Bummer To Open

Ursaking

I collect Pokemon too and all I can say is: eff scalpers! I hate those scumbags with fiery passion. Us hobbyists have to compete with this scum, and it's ridiculous. I haven't seen a single 151 or Evolutions pack anywhere but scalpers and investment bros have dozens. Can you say I'm angry? Because I'm angry about it - and I'm an adult. Imagine being a kid and not being able to buy kids cards because adults scalp them.

Re: The Math Adds Up, The Nintendo Switch Really Does Have The Best Games

Ursaking

I play on Switch, Playstation and PC and I love them all. Switch is wonderful, but the hardware is weak and the store is so full of garbage (Sony is also guilty of the latter, for the sake of fairness). I really wish Nintendo would add an option to blacklist games/developers. With 2 young kids I have a very limited amount of time I can spend gaming, I don't want to waste it wading through trash when shopping for a game.

Re: The First Confirmed 'Switch 2' Game Has Smashed Its Kickstarter Goal

Ursaking

@Daggot The games are fine, just not on Switch. The first game has voice acting on PC, which all got axed in the Switch version. It also runs really, really, REALLY badly on Switch. The second game is only marginally better in terms of performance. Play the first 2 ideally on PC or at least Xbox/PS.

They're also not your usual life sim. You run a workshop and you gather materials to build things rather than the classic farming stuff.
