Some re-releases and remasters pop up as a bit of a surprise, and we're pretty sure that Shatter Remastered Deluxe falls into that category. Originally released on PlayStation 3, PC and mobile back in 2009, it was a high energy take on the classic 'Breakout' formula, and well received at the time. Over a decade later it's making a return, with Switch among the platforms set to get the game later this year.
It looks pretty darn fun, too, as modern approaches to iconic game styles can certainly serve up compulsive play and plenty of style. This updated version will have updated visuals and improved audio quality, and will be just $9.99USD (with regional equivalents) when it arrives.
Master mind-bending physics to manipulate and bounce balls at increasingly complex geometric structures, destroying bricks with intuitive controls fine tuned for console, Mac and PC. Take advantage of the unique “Suck and Blow” mechanic to control the angle of each ball’s trajectory for precision attacks. Grab essential powerups like the Unstoppaball and Maneuveraball to deliver maximum damage.
Work your way through 71 levels of intense action that present unique challenges as you progress. Whilst navigating 10 distinct worlds, you will line up precision shots in an attempt to win insane boss battles, which will require you to collect Shards and unleash the powerful Shardstorm. A thumping original soundtrack from acclaimed producer Module, keeps you in the zone and deepens the already immersive experience.
It could be worth a look when it arrives later this year; let us know what you think of it in the comments.

Thee best brick busting game I've ever played in 40 years IMO. I bought it on Steam in 2009 and I'll buy it there again (Sorry Switch, PC gets more goodies and options) later this year.
I highly recommend this game if you're a fan of the genre or a first timer!
Is it free if you have a Netflix account? On iOS, it’s free for those with a Netflix account, as part of their trying to branch out into gaming or something.
@ChessboardMan
That’s wild, but thanks for the heads up! Loved this game and played it on steam when I worked over-nights about a decade ago. Can’t wait to see it on the switch Oled screen!
Fond memories of playing through this game. Really excellent Breakout-inspired gameplay and an amazing soundtrack. Can’t wait to revisit it!
I really enjoyed the original Shatter release and haven't played the remake. I'll have to keep this on my radar going forward.
Having tried on multiple occasions to make a decent version of Centipong that works with a controller.. These kinds of games DEFINITELY need a mouse.
Oh wow, brick breakers do draw my attention and this looks fire. I'll keep an eye out.
Goes into my wishlist.
I've been looking for a good breakout game; I'll check this out. There is a lot of garbage in this genre, so I'm glad this one has some history.
Remember, the game is Shatter, not Shattner.
(to reference the original launch )
I'm actually quite partial to variations in
the Breakout formula (even if they are slightly flawed). Games like Block Breaker Deluxe and Alpha Bounce on the "ware" circuit, examples off the top of my head.
So i will keep this in mind.
Ace! And one less reason to keep the PS3 hooked up...
Oh man. Yes. I always hoped this would come back but never expected it to actually happen
I played this on PS3 back in the day. Game is good for its genre, but I'm not a huge fan. The SOUNDTRACK on the other hand...I still listen to that bad boy to this day.
Critter Crunch would be cool to see on the Switch as well.
This is a great game. Glad it's getting some new life.
Still no date for this yet? Shame. This is the best Breakout clone since ...TRAZ on the C64; loved it on Steam.
