I want to buy a standalone Smash edition right Joy-Con. That single, light gray line under the home button is SWEET!

Dang, I want them to release those joycons for stand-alone purchase, they’re really sweet...

So I think they are going to hit that sales prediction....just a hunch.

The Switch stand decal is cool, but the controller design is laughable. They were building it up in the trailer too, only to reveal it's just regular gray Joycons with 2 slashes on the fronts. xD

I would have rather gotten the European bundle instead.

No thanks, it would be great if Nintendo (and others) gave us a choice instead of shoveling the digital scam down our throats.

I know it comes with the Pokeball Plus but this box on the shelf for $359 still looks better to me than the Pokemon box for $399. Will be interesting to see how Ntineod spreads out it's Switch stock this holiday, will they expect stores to keep 4 Switch bundles on shelves - normal, Smash, Pikachu, Eevee - all holiday or will the Pokemon bundles be limited until Smash releases?

Glad we got the SMO bundle, not a fan of gray.

Edit - It is really nice to see Ntineod launch bundles when the game releases, not like MK8 on Wii U 5 months after the game came out. I was expecting this, but if a Zelda BotW bundle was announced instead I wouldn't have been too surprised.

So the leaks were true... I can admit I was wrong - though I still hate leakers for spoiling the surprise.

That said, this bundle looks way too plain to me.

I'm confused, does this mean people are buying a system which includes a game game download for a game they can't play till over a month after they buy the system? If so, that's some dirty pool Nintendo. This is not a good look, especially after that awful "reveal" of your online service which didn't actually give us any real new details. Outside of locking features behind a paywall (online play, cloud saving and that horrid voice chat), I'm still struggling to figure out why people should buy into it.

So.... Did they move the launch of Smash up, or are people supposed to but this console and wait a month to play the game download?

The joy con are rubbish, but I'm very jealous of the dock

I'm planning to get my Switch this year so i was hoping for some cool bundle to be announced. I guess i'll just settle with a cheap standard model and pick a skin from DecalGirl.

I'm tempted to pick up this bundle but I'm worried about the download code. It will be region specific, right? Like I would need to have an American region to download this game? I'm in Korea, use a Canadian region (cause my credit card is Canadian) but I buy from American Amazon haha.

Am I the only one that thinks its kind of wack there is no design on the back of the actual system? Pokemon Go gets the real console special edition treatment.

That still sucks though and Nintendo should have just released it at the same time as the game or pushed the Smash Bros date up.

@B-Locks I was all about the actual console on the Pokémon one but I wasn’t sold on the dock or the colors of the joycon. On this one I am all for the dock and joycon but it doesn’t have any designs on the back. If it did I’d be all over it, but now I’m kinda just thinking on holding off till another special edition that really grabs me is announced.

@Draxa I actually like the joycon colors for the pokemon console, but just not planning on playing Lets go. I just think that they gave pokemon the full treatment (Joycons, Dock, & Console) and only gave SSBU the half way special edition. There really should of been a design on the back of the console. I'm going to say I'll be doing the same as you and waiting for a special edition I really am 100 with.

@TreonsRealm I don’t see why they need to release at the same time. There will be people wanting a Switch today in order to play Smash tomorrow. While they may not be able to play Smash immediately, they can explore the back catalogue which is also excellent. Unless Nintendo are stupid with stock, people can just buy the console later on if they only intend to play Smash.

And they can’t just bring the date forward if it’s not ready and production isn’t ready for it.

I'm really not fussed on the design.

Having the download code in with the system makes sense. Most people getting it for Smash probably also like their games, so they’ll buy BotW, Mario, or something else to play in the mean time. Plus it means that if demand out strips supply (probably will) then they can make sure they have them on sale earlier.

Besides there are a ton of low cost games on the eshop if somebody gets it for a kid and they can’t play the big game it came with yet.

Looks like a cheap cash grab, unless a Smash fan out there doesn’t own a Switch yet.

That's a good word, more suspicious then outright negative.

I found out about it on twitter via the NoA tweet. At first, like a lot of people, I thought it was a typo - I actually checked to see if I was looking at NoE instead w/ their silly backwards dating system - then I thought the game was releasing a month earlier than planned, then I realized this was a month early and thought about all the upset folk trying to boot it up when they got home.

But thinking about it, there are probably more benefits than disadvantages.

Pros -
people who want a Switch earlier than Dec 7 can get this one
pre-order download so it's ready to play at midnight - we got the SMO bundle and waiting to install it kind of killed the mood
stock throughout the holiday bc/ there are 7 weeks rather than 3 before Christmas
it's out before BF when many people do their holiday shopping
out a week before the Pokemon bundle, and $40 cheaper
Cons-
digital download, but that's gonna happen on Dec 7 too
people thinking they'll get to play the game - that is a big one, not to be belittled, and the real unsettling part for me, but if Ntineod screams SSBU DEC 7 from the rooftops, most people looking to buy this will know

So I think it's a good move. In a digital world. Obviously this wouldn't work w/ a disc, which most of us would prefer, but if they are going "code" only, might as well get the console into peoples hands sooner rather than later. And if you pay close attention to their 3DS line you'll see they do something similar, the console w/o the game. I'd say more often than not those themed 3DS launch w/o the game, or any game. Not all, 3DS gets a lot of game downloads as well, but some are just themes.

I'm not getting one, 1 Switch is more than enough for us, but I can't dislike them trying to get ahead of things for a change rather than being so far behind.

And Behold...I won't get one either at the cost of games that I have on preorder that will come first. Now if I could get my data save and trade up but that would be a NSW 2.0HD just more fancy decals isn't going to sell for me after already investing in a NSW when the SSB NSW isn't a NSW 2.0HD upgrade.

@Agramonte Thanks for the link. It's amazing how much I dont' like it though. I don't really do B&W, I'm all about the colors. The XC2 one was really nice but I passed on it when I passed on the game.

I made this mug for my sons bar mitzah gift giveaway a few years back. If it looked like that I'd consider it.

If I didn't already have a Switch I'd be getting this bundle. Badass looking joycon and dock. I already think between the Pokemon games and Smash that Switch was set up for huge holiday sales. This just guarantees it.

I was intending to buy the bundle.. however just having a fancy looking dock and a couple of white flash on my joyco just doesn't work for me.. if they had the smash characters all over the back like the Pokémon one I'd have instantly bought it

The dock better be released seperately.
The joy cons are crap I could do that to my controllers with a bit of electrical tape or a sharpie.
And why didnt they do the artwork on the back of the console like they did with the Pokemon version?
Just going for a quick buck there

@Bunkerneath Totally agree with you there. I love the dock design, I will get one day one if they release it separately. The joy cons however are plain and lazy (much like the Smash Pro).

Those joycon are "phoned in" is what they are.

This was their chance to bust out fully black joycon, or black with the white streaks as embedded white plastics, to really pop.

These are almost "worse than nothing" and so is the GC controller. At least fill out that logo with white, or invert the color scheme, what even is this.

Thile the dock and joycons couldn't look better, they don't even sell a physical game. So you end up with an even smaller amount of storage on your already small storage space for today's video game standards.
They could at least include a micro SD card

I wanted it, but I'm not sure I'm waiting this long to buy our third Switch. I'm not as fond of these joy cons.

If they really really wanted to sell a ton of these bundles, they could have left the buyers download the game immediately. A month head start would have sold this alone. People who already own a Switch might have purchased the bundle just to play the game early.

I like the dock it's awesome the rest is just ok. I don't like the only option for the game is digital in these bundles . Of the two the Pokemon bundle is better in my opinion, @rjejr colors all the way and #Nintendominate ..

@Agramonte We don't really keep any dates. My two sons had their bar mtizvahs and that's pretty much that. We'll light the Hanukiah for Hanukkah and give my kids small gifts for 8 nights, mostly amiibo, and have Passover dinner with her family - which is too often on Good Friday when I don't eat meat so they serve me lox - but that's it I think. My wife did take off for the High Holy Days, and she'll fast next Wednesday, but she isn't really religious, neither am I, so it works.

We discussed the kids bar mitzvahs before getting married, which was her thing she wanted, and I told her I didn't want my kids in day care all day, one of us had to stay home with them, which turned out to be my thing, and 16 years later I still don't have a job. Soon though, time and money are running out and college beckons.

@Tyranexx what blue logo? the only time it had a tint on blue was on the wii u version, now the entire title and smash ball is just black.

In everything but the $399 - US$ - price. My brain knows it's a savings of $10 w/ the Pokeball Plus vs no savings for SSBU but I'd still take a $359 Switch over a $399 Switch. I do like the Pokemon Joycon and dock art much better though, the Joycon are color matched tails, can't get much more themed than that.

They should have put Final Destination on the dock w/ SSBU written over it in that cool "Deluxe" font that NSMBUD is using.

@Tyranexx no need to apologise I was just confused xD but yeah it would be cool if they did a few more designs for smash bros with different colors as stand alone joy cons. I kinda like the design they went for it though, I'm all for minimalistic and clean.

Why do some people find it annoying that they sell it before the game comes out. It's not like you're not getting the game anyway, I was going to buy I'd be glad to get it ASAP

@rjejr I did 12 years of Catholic school... So feel That is enough "religion" this time around 😜 (She does not practice either). Her sister in law is Irish Catholic and my brother's wife is also Jewish. So all our holidays are middle of the road. Mostly involves eating 🙂

When we fist got together - I wanted to do the Friday night thing. SO she made it into Pizza Night and tries to be home early(er). Works for me.

Sounds like you Guys are doing an a-ok job if you already at 16. My pops also stayed home after I turned 6 and that worked out just fine in the end.

@LuciferOnReddit my launch switch finally broke on me couple months ago and ended up buying my second one a neon switch then all these bundles got announced and decided I wanted the pokemon lets go Pikachu bundle pre ordered it then the smash bros bundle got announced and that dock looks sick so pre ordred that one also is looking like imma have 3 switches now debating whether or not to sell of my neon switch I bought reason I even bought smash bros switch because I want that dock as my main dock then plan on using pokemon switch tablet and its joy cons only and with the smash dock and store the smash switch and pokemon dock and smash joycons as a back up system debating if I should keep my neon bundle as a back up also by way its looking I have enough systems to last me though this generation never will have to worry about my system breaking on me and not having enough right away for a replacement system
