Re: Opinion: Miiverse Was Fine, But Does Anybody Really Want It Back In 2025?

Toastmaster

@AussieMcBucket
I remember Google Street on Wii U where you could use Wii Balanceboard to walk around with.

Also. The only time YouTube ever had a 360 degree carousel for videos were only for Wii U.
Google did some effort with Wii U exclusive features.

Then there were those slick 3D screens on Wii U in Zen Pinball.
They were never ported to PC or any other console ever.

Re: Opinion: Miiverse Was Fine, But Does Anybody Really Want It Back In 2025?

Toastmaster

Miiverse were a huge deal on Wii U and developers hanged out there.
Some developers also gave out free Steam keys if you bought the Wii U version.
There were contests etc. from developers too.
Gamers were closer to developers on Wii U than anywhere else ever.
Miiverse wasn't toxic, because only Wii U related people used it.
No one flamed developers either. It were a friendly place.

Funny thing is that in the Bombing ***** forum, you weren't allowed to say the game name because of the word "*****.

Another thing is that Sony banned Bombing ***** until they renamed the title to a family friendly one for PS4 only.
Nintendo allowed the original title.

Re: EA Considering Apex Legends 2.0, But Battlefield 6 Is The Priority For Now

Toastmaster

Battlefield 6 have decreased player base from 128 to 64 players, because PS5 and X have too weak hardware for 128 players and mass destruction.

PS5 and X struggled on several of the Battlefield 2042 maps too, causing the game to lag for PC Gamers.
DICE had to do some map degrades in 2042, thanks to PS5/X.
Battlefield clearly should have stayed PC exclusive.

Since PS5/X are struggling even with Battlefield 2042, i doubt the underpowered Switch 2 will get Battlefield 6 at all which are even more physics and destruction based.

If they port it to Switch 2, they have to disable cross-play and make it Switch 2 only.

Re: EA Considering Apex Legends 2.0, But Battlefield 6 Is The Priority For Now

@derickw69 Criterion worked day and night for 6 months to upgrade NFS Most wanted for Wii U launch. They replaced the PS3/360 assets with PC assets as Wii U were much more powerful than the other consoles.
When it were done, EA delayed it for 3 months for no reason at all.
EA even used a generic cover instead of listing the Wii U exclusive features.
EA ported Crysis 3 and Battlefield 3 to Wii U, but never released them.

As far as i remember, the Nintendo loving EA boss quit around when Wii U launched.
The new EA boss didn't like Nintendo and is why they cancelled several Wii U Games, and never cared much about Switch either.
If EA never got a new boss, Wii U and Switch would have got far more EA games.

The current one have lied all the time about liking Nintendo, because he never did.

Re: EA: Switch 2 Could Help Games Like FC And Madden "Find Real Energy"

Toastmaster

EA likes Nintendo so much they did the effort to port Battlefield 3 and Crysis 3 to Wii U, but didn't release them.

EA also loved Sega so much too that they released 0 games on Dreamcast.

After 1998, EA became a bunch of weirdos and it never changed.
They also closed Bullfrog, Origin etc. around that time.
At least they recovered a bit with Battlefield 1942 in 2002.

Re: Nintendo Switch Hardware Sales Pass 150 Million, With PS2's Record Still A Way Off

Toastmaster

@Spider-Kev Yeah. Sony always used shipped numbers instead of sold sold consoles as shipped will always be higher and sound better.
Sony know well people will misread shipped and think it's sold consoles.

As for PS5 sales.
Sony officially said PS VR And Portal were counted as console.
When Sony says sold "consoles" instead of PS5, it means it includes Portal and PS VR sales.

That's like saying Wii sold 160 millions including the Balanceboard sales.
Xbox 360 sold 130 millions if you include Kinect.

Sony are really desperate at faking console sale numbers.

Re: Random: Ex-PlayStation Boss Wanted More "Surprises" From Switch 2 Reveal

Toastmaster

@Serpenterror You are wrong about Wii U being the same as Wii.

Wii U were by far more powerful than Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360 and at the same time ran all games at higher resolutions.

Wii U also supported 2 external HDD/SSD's at the same time.
Only Nintendo console ever to support proper external storage.
Wii U also had Bluetooth 4.0, while the newer PS4 and Xbox used the dead obsolete Bluetooth 3.0 standard. Why?
It were the only Nintendo console ever with Blu-Ray drive.

Wii U Pro controller 80 hours on one charge..PS4 controller. 6 hours on one charge.

Here is a Wii U fact as good as no one on the planet knows about besides Nintendo themselves.

Wii U were the most powerful console ever for 1 year, until PS4 and Xbox One launched.

It's a old lie that GameCube were the last one to be most powerful, when Wii U were that in reality.

Re: Rumour: Another Xbox Game Could Be Racing Onto Switch 2, It's Claimed

@msvt

Forza Horizon 4 still have more players than FH 5, because it's a superior game. Hardcore fans thinks FH 2 and 3 are better than 5 too.
FH 4 are gone from sale, but servers and everything are up as usual.

I played FH 5 some for years, but it's still perhaps the worst in the series.

Anyways. FH 5 are possible on Switch 2 technically.
The game can be scaled down even for 10 year old potato PC's.

Anyways. Too bad FH 4 couldn't be ported instead of FH 5.

Re: Super Technos World: River City & Technos Arcade Classics Announced For Switch

Toastmaster

@Magrane That's true. They had to rename a bunch of things as the original names wasn't easy to sell in a bunch of countries.

It's still weird that Xain'd Sleena were chosen for Europe instead of Soldier of Light or Solar Warrior.
I always preferred Xain'd Sleena, probably because it were the only Arcade title in Europe and Japan.
It also sounds cooler than the English titles.
Still one of the most unique game titles.

NSO is a lazy effort from Nintendo.
Even after 25 years, N64 emulation isn't even perfect on PC emulators, and Nintendo's N64 emulator are worse than some of those.

If some random John Doe can make N64 games run natively on PC, Nintendo could have done the same.

These PC ports are not only perfect, but they run N64 games at locked 60 FPS, but Perfect Dark supports 1000 FPS i think.

What can you expect from a company that emulated Mario 64 at 900p instead of 1080p?
Even a 15 year old weak phone could run Mario 64 at 1080p...

Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's N64 Library With Namco Classic 'Ridge Racer 64'

Toastmaster

@batmanbud2 Racing games were a huge thing on PC and N64 between 1996-2000. Good times.

There were also a period on 360/PS3 where lots of great racing games were made. Blur (Adult version of Mario Kart), Split Second, Project Gotham Racing, Forza, Motorstorm, Stuntman Ignition and a long list of others.

When racing genre almost went extinct, a bunch of people from these racing developers formed a new developer called "Playground Games" and made the Forza Horizon series

Forza Horizon 5 might be on Switch 2 as it were just announced for PS5.

Switch 2 can handle FH 5, because it cane be scaled down to a toaster.. It works even without a GPU. Proof on YT.

Re: Atari's CEO Is "Extremely Pleased" With Company's Performance In 2024

Toastmaster

@KITG_GROUP Nope. It's weird that they didn't check if IBM had the capacity to make enough consoles. So IBM were partially to blame for Atari going out of business. Atari would have lasted longer at least if someone else could produce the consoles.
IBM later made a CPU for GameCube as you probably know.
I can see why they were worried about Atari, as they were in console business since 1970's, and survived a few things.

Another fact about Atari and E.T. It were never really a failure as everyone thinks.
It sold 2.5 - 3.5 millions or so, and were made by one person in 2 weeks. As good as no development budget.

The licensing price of E.T. were insane and would be even today.
Atari paid 20 millions for the license, and the movie budget were only 11 millions i think...

Movie licenses in general barely cost anything back then, and is why the small developer Ocean Software pushed out licensed games all the time for over a decade.

Re: Technos The World: Kunio-kun & Arcade Collection Announced For Switch

Toastmaster

@BrianJL I didn't remember who made it either.

I remember it impressed me in the arcade with it's big good looking enemies / bosses now and then.
It were one of the early games of this kind.

I remember i forgot the name sometime after playing it on Arcade, and i tried to explain someone what i played.

Someone said it had to be Soldier of Light. I said no, because the title started with X....
Turned out it were the exact same game, just different name.

One of the worst things about 1980's and 1990's in gaming and movies, were all the alternate names of everything.
25 years ago or so i remember they set a standard in Norway on titles, using USA and International titles on everything to avoid name confusion.

Re: Technos The World: Kunio-kun & Arcade Collection Announced For Switch

Toastmaster

"Xain’d Sleena"

Finally the original title is used as it should be.
This title were only used in Europe and Japan.

This is a great oldie and easily the top game in the collection.

  • This game were called Soldier of Light on European home computers like Amiga, MSX etc.
  • Solar Warrior in USA.

"Xain’d Sleena" is the correct title.

Re: Banjo-Kazooie Has The Potential To "Rival 3D Mario", Says Ori Dev

Toastmaster

Banjo have never been a franchise ever.
It had 2 N64 games and a spin off on 360 released many years after N64 ones, and even that one are 20 years old.
No "Franchise" are going this slow, means it were never a franchise.

Xbox gamers have nagged "Phil Spencer" about a new Banjo for years.
Spencer said: "I hear you". Then later said he had to find a passionate developer for it, if he could find one.
It has to be a developer who really are in on it with plans on how to make it. Not easy to find as they also have to have something relevant they did already to prove they can do it.

You can't force Blizzard, Obsidian, Bethesda, Halo Studios etc. to make a Banjo game....as it would be cancelled before it released.

Since Microsoft now are partially multiplatform, a new Banjo are more likely to happen as Spencer wants to revive many dead IP's including even Guitar Hero and Hexen.

Re: Atari's CEO Is "Extremely Pleased" With Company's Performance In 2024

Toastmaster

@KITG_GROUP Jack Tramiel were important for both Atari and Commodore. Funny thing is that Commodore were the worst enemy of Atari. Commodore even became a enemy of IBM.

Jack Tramiel and the old Yamauchi at Nintendo were known as the most ruthless business men in the gaming industry in 1980's and 1990's.

Anyway. Since Infogrames were one of the oldest gaming companies still alive, i don't think it were smart to change the name. They already had several studios named Atari already and could have kept it that way.

I didn't know they bought Nightdive Studios in 2023, the masters of remasters.

Re: Atari's CEO Is "Extremely Pleased" With Company's Performance In 2024

Toastmaster

@Yalloo Your welcome. I think it's weird that "Pitfall 1+2" which were one of the flagship games for Atari isn't included in the collection or DLC. Could be because it's a Activision made game, which means Microsoft owns that game now.

I will wait until the DLC cost less than 5 bucks too, but as you mention should have been included with the first one.
Microsoft added the Goldeneye remaster to all Rare Replay owners for free, 8 years later.

Not many devs do anything for free anymore.
THQ Nordic were probably the one who gave away most for free the last years, besides Microsoft.

Re: Atari's CEO Is "Extremely Pleased" With Company's Performance In 2024

Toastmaster

This is not the real Atari that went bankrupt in 1995.

The new Atari is the old Infogrames game publisher that just changed the name to Atari.
A French company bought their assets.

To me they will always be Infogrames like they were since 1983.

Fun fact: Infogrames once owned the developer of GTA for less than 1 year, and owned other devs like Gremlin, Melbourne House, Eden Games etc.

Re: Rumour: 'Switch 2' Will Reportedly Be Officially Revealed This Thursday

Toastmaster

It could be true, because there are new Handhelds revealed all the time now, and Nintendo probably feel like they are "late to the game".

People are getting bored of the daily leaks, especially since not all of them are real.
Even Tencent revealed a PC Handheld with a 3D screen like 3DS, but with a big 11" screen.

Anyways. Hopefully they reveal a new Mario 3D Game on it at least.

Re: Donkey Kong Country Returns HD Spotted In The Wild

Toastmaster

@OldGamer999
It will still take 5+ years to make each AAA Game for Switch 2.
It's not uncommon to spend 5-8 years on a new game now.

Switch library wouldn't be as good as it is without 10's of games ported from Wii U. Wii U helped Switch library a lot.
Besides Wii U games, there have been many remakes of old games too.
In total Switch have relied mostly on Wii U ports and remakes, instead of new games.

Zelda BOTW were also a game made for Wii U, but were delayed for a long time so they could have it as a launch title for Switch.
They even removed the touch screen features on Wii U version, so it didn't get an advantage over Switch.
They will probably port a lot of older games to Switch 2 too as it's easy money.

I think a new Mario 3D game have been in development for Switch 2 for years already, but they probably also made a Switch version.
I think Switch 2 will have a 3D Mario at launch.
