@Lucami Sony were worth more than Microsoft, 25 years ago.
Today, Microsoft are worth 25 times more than Sony.
Sony lost so much money on PS3 they even had to sell their headquarter building...
Consoles were only a small part of the real Sony back when they were a giant.
I forgot to mention that the cheap Xbox 360 console were the reason why Sony were forced to lose so much money to compete as 360 outsold PS3 most of the time.
Sony lost 300$ on each sold PS3 and almost went bankrupt because of it. This is why Sony are a small company now compared to what they were during PS3. The old Sony could have bought Kadokawa with pocket change. Today's Sony, only 10%.
Nintendo 64 and GameCube didn't sell much, but they earned money.
@LEGEND_MARIOID "Legion Go" forum on Reddit would shock you.
There are lots of people who spent up to 2000$ extra on add-ons alone for their handheld. I only spent 7-800$ for add-ons on my Legion so far.
@Bolt_Strike Switch sold like hot cakes partially because it were the most powerful handheld in the world in the beginning, and a lot of PC Gamers bought it too.
PC Handhelds last 2-3 years were not a direct competitor to Switch because of the price, but there are so many of them now running latest Games like Wukong, Indiana Jones, Stalker 2 etc. natively out of the box.
In fact even Sony's Spiderman 2 PC Release this month will run natively on PC Handhelds.
PC handhelds runs all Sony PS5 ports on PC Handhelds out of the box and they don't need ports unlike Nintendo consoles who need ports of all of them.
PC Handhelds also supports Xbox, Sony and Nintendo controllers + over 1000 other controllers on TV.
At this point PC Handhelds will hurt the sales of Switch 2 as Nintendo are late to the game this time.
Switch 2 probably have less power than current handhelds to keep the price down, and to extend the battery time.
@Jeronan Yeah, i remember it were sold out for a long time. I know they pay full price, but they also increase the price more as they are the ones who cover the warranty and not Valve after 1-2 years.
Steam Deck had a official Norwegian page on Steam before it even were sold and the Norwegian page are still up now which is weird. Why would they have a Norwegian page for it?
One of the 2025 model Legion Go handhelds will have Steam OS installed. I will stick with Windows on my Legion, because of superior compatibility. Over 900 of my 3500 games on Steam are listed as not Steam Deck compatible. I also need Windows for all the game launchers like UBI, EA, GOG, Epic, Prime, BattleNet etc.
Elkjop and Power sold Steam Deck for a long time in local stores, but the prices are insane.
The higher prices are partially because of 5 year warranty in Norway on electronics.
If they break after 1-2 years, the stores themselves have to pay for the repairs and not Valve.
If Legion Go or Rog Ally breaks after 4+ years, it's Lenovo and Asus that pays to fix them instead.
This is why global brands is cheaper than brands like Valve that isn't.
Any global brand have 5 year warranty in Norway.
Microsoft, Nintendo, Samsung, LG, Asus, Acer, Lenovo, Philips +++ all honor the 5 year warranty.
My guess is that Valve were scared of the 5 year warranty, as Americans usually have only 1 year +/-.
@Jeronan
Yeah, Steam Deck is outdated at this point.
I bought Legion Go at launch in 2023 and it runs all games that don't work on Steam Deck including the Avatar game.
900 bucks for Legion Go were a bargain compared to Steam Deck price.
A Steam Deck 1.TB cost 1200 bucks at the same time here which is insane.
Steam Deck were only launched in selected countries in Europe, and is why it's so expensive in a lot of countries.
The reason why Windows handhelds are much cheaper than Steam DEck, is because Lenovo, Asus, MSI, Zotac, Acer etc. sells globally, unlike Valve.
Right Gyro controller on Legion Go PC Handheld from 2023 have a real PC mouse, so you can use it on the table. The handheld itself also have a trackpad.
Legion Go were inspired by Switch and now Nintendo are inspired by Legion Go?
@Ravenmaster Because Nintendo tried to save 50 cents by not using hall effect sticks.
Steam Deck, Rog Ally, MSI Claw and everyone else are as cheap as Nintendo. They all use the same low budget sticks as Switch.
Lenovo is the only PC Handheld maker who could afford to pay for hall effect sticks for their Legion Go.
They used a more expensive screen, Faster RAM the other handhelds, more expensive controllers as they are detachable, and also works as a real table PC mouse, Proper Kickstand etc.
I gladly paid 1500$ for my Legion including extra 2.TB SSD, Docking, Steelseries Keyboard + Mouse, MSI 15.6" portable Monitor for it. Remember Lenovo is the only Handheld also designed to be used as a laptop.
1500$ isn't much for a handheld as a premium phone, Laptop and premium TV costs the same...
A lot of people on Reddit paid 2000-2500$ for their Legion Go.
@Ravenmaster I can tell you are not a system builder since you don't know that if there isn't room for a Laptop GPU inside a huge PC Handheld, 3 times the size of Switch. There is no way it can fit inside a smaller Nintendo handheld.
My PC Handheld are 3 times bigger than a Switch physically, and even then it's too small for a Laptop RTX GPU.
Even if there were room for a "Laptop RTX", good luck with 10 minute battery time on each charge.
Battery life is short even at only 30W.
There is a reason not even the largest PC handhelds have RTX GPU, because NVIDIA don't make any small enough for handhelds.
PC Handhelds either use AMD Extreme or Intel ARC. RTX isn't a option for any handheld as even the giant ones are too small.
Nintendo refuse to add support for external SSD, because they know Soccer Moms will unplug the console while running games from external SSD in the dock, and won't understand why the games will crash.
Wii U were an exception as it were a TV console. You could have 2 x SSD's connected to Wii U at the same time...
There is no way a Nintendo "family" handheld will have eGPU support.
My Legion GO Handheld supports external RTX 4090...
PC handhelds are designed for PC Gamers and not Nintendo gamers, and is why they can support external GPU, SSD etc.
@Ravenmaster It's not how this works. All components combined have to cost around 250$ at most including controllers, RAM, SSD, OLED screen, Casing, connectors and other things.
A RTX 4060 can't fit inside a tablet or a any tiny console. Stores want money for selling it on top of it.
Wattage have nothing to do with it
This GPU would melt the plastic on a Nintendo handheld without cooling.
This GPU requires a tower casing with a a lot of airflow on top of it's own huge fans.
Ask anyone here, as other.
@Ravenmaster Yes, but remember Switch have a media streaming chip from year 2014 designed for 4K/60 video streaming.
It were never designed for gaming, but there are Android 3D Games that ran games at 1080p/60 on that media chip 10 years ago.
It was the best portable chip 10 years ago and is why Nintendo chose it.
You can forget RTX 3060TI in a handheld, because it would melt the handheld and the GPU itself would break to due lack of cooling.
2.) Impossible to fit it inside a handheld.
3.) No room for big cooling ribs and big fans.
4.) 3060TI would be way too expensive for a Nintendo handheld unless you would want to pay 1000$ for a Nintendo handheld.
Not even 1000-1500$ PC Gaming handhelds is as powerful as RTX 3060TI.
This makes me wonder why Nintendo are still using NVIDIA instead of AMD.
Sony lost billions on PS3, because NVIDIA didn't drop the price.
Microsoft lost a lot of money on Xbox 2001 because NVIDIA refused to drop the price.
NVIDIA is the reason why Switch don't drop in price, because NVIDIA refuse to drop the price.
Only "consoles" with AMD have price drops and that includes Xbox, PS, PC Handhelds and Laptops.
@120frames-please Nice. I just installed Blur on PC again and it's still good. While i were at it i bought "Split Second" Steam key for 2 1/2 bucks too as i only owned it on Xbox 360 and PS3.
Teknoparrot emulator is a great Arcade emulator if you haven't tried it.
@PKDuckman Ah yes. Lost source code is sadly a thing and another reason why many games can't be remastered.
Many developers never had a backup...They had one copy on floppy or HDD, and got lost when they broke.
You can still fight Turok 3 bots in it in a N64 emulator.
As for licensing mess or loss preventing a remaster.
I asked KAIKO years ago who worked for THQ Nordic for years now, about a HD Remake of their legendary 1991 Shooter on AMIGA. Well. Apidya changed ownership so many times, that no one knew who owned it anymore. If they knew, they said they would have done a HD Remake...
Apidya have one of the best game soundtracks ever, made by Chris Huelsbeck (Turrican, Giana Sisters, Shades +++).
@120frames-please Yep. I had Legion Go since launch on day 1 in 2023.
That Switch clone is huge besides my Switch...
PC Gamers almost always fixed and upgraded games. Since it's all unofficial, everything stays PC exclusive.
Even the masterpiece Need for Speed III from 1997 were upgraded to 4K/60 with support for modern controllers.
Sega Rally and Outrun 2 Coast 2 Coast got upgrades to run properly on modern PC's too.
They recently figured out how to decompile most N64 games a lot easier, so i guess we will get more ports more often.
There are several different persons and teams doing these ports at the same time.
"Beetle Adventure Racing" are among mine on top of the list of ports.
"Blur" ? Do you mean the racing game that released on PC/360/PS3, that made fun of Mario in the commercials?
@120frames-please So you were there when it happened in 1999 too. I still have my Voodoo 1 + 2 3DFX Cards. Voodoo 1 is for MS-DOS Games and Voodoo 2 is for Windows.
I were one of the first in the world to buy 3DFX Voodoo 1 when it launched. Both of mine are Orchid cards which is nice. Voodoo 2 3DFX usually ran games at 60 FPS as far as i remember. Unlike other 3D cards, 3DFX didn't use much CPU. The 3DFX card is what speeded up the games.
Some of my favorite games on 3DFX were Fatal Racing, Carmageddon 2, Tomb Raider and 2 Russian made games i forgot the name of. One of them were a boat racer with great water physics, and the other one a funny racing game.
@LikelySatan Yeah. ID don't need to copy anyone, and their 2025 Doom looks like another great game from them. Will probably be ported to "Switch 2".
ID Tech Engine supports 1000 FPS, even in the new Indiana Jones game...
I have a soft spot for weird games too, and i bought a huge amount of them. I also buy Indies with great design and visuals even if they are just above average, but i get those at 80% off usually.
@120frames-please Cool. Starfox 64, Perfect Dark and Zelda Majora's Mask PC ports runs perfect on my Legion Go PC Handheld with it's 8.8" screen.
UltraHLE shocked Nintendo and the world January 1999 during prime time of N64. It only supported 20 games or so.
The only reason why the emulator ran fast, were because it required the fast 3DFX Card on PC to run.
The 10 +/- other 3D card brands were mostly too slow.
Two months later in March 1999, BleemCast shocked Sony and the world...lol
Bleemcast ran PS1 games better on Dreamcast and PC than a real PS1...They also looked better on PC and DC.
Here is another crazy fact.
Dreamcast launched in 1998 in Japan, only 3-4 months before Bleem. PS1 ran on the console around 5 months before Dreamcast even launched in Europe and USA in later 1999...
1999 were a headache year for Nintendo and Sony when it came to emulation of "current gen consoles"
The mastermind Randy Linden who made Bleem/BleemCast is also the same person that did the impossible port of Doom for SNES.
In 1980's Randy Linden also ported the LaserDisc Arcade game Dragon's Lair to AMIGA, so it could run from a floppy disk...
No one else on the planet would have tried that either.
Randy Linden were not involved in the impossible N64 port of Resident Evil 2.
Probably too busy making PS1 emulator for Dreamcast at the same time. lol
@Slobbert There is a 2019 Remaster of Blood - Fresh Supply on Steam, but it doesn't support controller. I bought it there sometime. It currently cost 2$ on Steam on sale, and Blood 2 original 1$.
@LikelySatan "Space Station Silicon Valley" will most likely get a unofficial PC port later like Starfox 64 etc.
I own their "Blood - Fresh Supply" "remaster" which is still only on PC like "Sin Gold". None of them supports controllers.
Here is what i read recently.
"Sin Reloaded" were announced long time ago, but is on hold.
My guess is that they also have a plan for "Blood Reloaded" too.
"Blood 2019 remaster" currently cost 2 bucks on sale on Steam. (Blood Fresh supply) Blood 2 cost even less.
If both "reloaded versions" happens, they will work on Switch.
I suspect the more time consuming remasters like Turok 3, Killing Time and The Thing remasters were the reason why other things were put on hold.
You are ignoring one major thing. Most of the new creative games are PC exclusive, and is why you never see them.
Majority of game developers never release games on any console ever.
If you want creative games, you need to play on PC and not console.
21-22000 of the 24000 games released in 2023 were PC exclusive.
Sure, there are a bunch of shovelware, but remember over half of Switch games are shovelware too.
There are only so much you can do with a 30 year old limited controller design, and is why consoles mostly are ignored.
Anyway's. The only remasters that sells a million are the Resident Evil ones. The rest are sold in low amounts to old hardcore fans who played them in 1990's mostly .
@ZZalapski Correct. Before Nightdive existed, the CEO upgraded games for free as a hobby. He have a passion for upgrading old games.
There were around 24000 new games in 2023, and there is no way the niche market Nightdive have ruins the sales of other games.
What's ruining sales of games in reality, are live service games.
80% of gamers played live service games in 2023 and that hurts the sales of real games hard.
@smoreon Yep, i know you can play them at 60 FPS in emulator too which is nice, and also add HD texture packs with upgraded graphics.
In January 1999 when the first N64 emulator came, i connected my real N64 controller to PC using Adaptoid to play Mario 64 on PC at 60 FPS thanks to my 3DFX Voodoo 2 card.
Nintendo 64 still isn't 100% perfect emulated after 25 years in any emulator, and is why they are porting them to PC instead now so the games can be ran properly like the originals.
Perfect Dark 64 supports 1000 FPS natively...
When the N64 games runs natively on PC, the graphics isn't stretched.
Also...Back in around year 2001-2002, i used Kaillera to play Mario Kart 64 online with a friend for the first time.
@SBandy1 Super Mario 64 emulated at 900p is what happens when Nintendo do these things themselves.
Nintendo didn't even bother to do anything with Goldeneye, while Microsoft made a upgraded Goldeneye that runs natively on Xbox, twice...
Microsoft hacked over 600 Xbox 360 games too, where many got upgraded graphics, 4K etc. All upgrades were free for everyone.
Nintendo's only hack were Super Mario 64 perhaps, and their emulator that ripped off Kaillera from PC so N64 could work online.
If Nintendo add GameCube to Nintendo online for Switch 2, the games will most likely only be emulated.
@SBandy1 Nightdive are the masters as they know how to do it properly. They even upgrade graphics on a few now without ruining the original look. Turok 3, Killing Time and The Thing for example.
Nightdive remasters are how we remember the games, but as you know the originals aged as bad as milk and had poor frame rate.
As far as i remember the graphics on N64 were also darker than the remasters.
Nightdive seem to do several remasters at the same time as they release several every year.
I hope someone port "Beetle Adventure Racing" from N64 as it were a very good racer that would be even better at 60 FPS and high resolution.
@SBandy1
I doubt Nightdive will do exclusives for Nintendo, as all their remasters are always multiplatform.
Those who did the 1080p Zelda HD Remasters for Wii U, Mass Efffect 3 Wii U and Deus EX Revolution Wii U could have done N64 remasters, but they have been silent for years now...
Perhaps they have merged with Tantalus.
"Straight Right" were the masters of ports on Wii U as they also always added bonus features not in the originals.
You are right. If they reviewed all of the worst games, none of these games would even be on bottom 1000 list as there were around 24000 new games released in 2023 for example.
@progx Yes, but there were still over 1 billion accounts as of year 2019 5 years ago.
They are not all unique users as there are many who have 2-5 Steam accounts for families etc.
Let's say 3 family members have 3 accounts shared to one account, they will count as 3 accounts.
Steam have around 300-350 million unique users.
The reason there are so many family accounts on Steam is because there are 1000's of local multiplayer games there you can play on TV using Nintendo, Xbox or PS controllers mixed. Most of them have never been released on any console.

@Jeronan Steam Deck 2 won't be out until 2026 at the earliest.
They are waiting for a huge gap in hardware before making it.
Valve don't earn money on handhelds, so there is no point in rushing it.
The only reason they can sell a handheld without earning money on it, is because they have Steam store.
Steam also get money from other handhelds too.

Re: Star Fox 64 Finally Barrel Rolls Onto PC Thanks To An Unofficial Port
Re: Star Fox 64 Finally Barrel Rolls Onto PC Thanks To An Unofficial Port
Re: Opinion: Nightdive Studios Had Its Best, Most Prolific Year Yet In 2024
@LikelySatan Yeah.
Re: Star Fox 64 Finally Barrel Rolls Onto PC Thanks To An Unofficial Port
Probably too busy making PS1 emulator for Dreamcast at the same time. lol
Re: Opinion: Nightdive Studios Had Its Best, Most Prolific Year Yet In 2024
@Slobbert There is a 2019 Remaster of Blood - Fresh Supply on Steam, but it doesn't support controller. I bought it there sometime.
It currently cost 2$ on Steam on sale, and Blood 2 original 1$.
Re: Opinion: Nightdive Studios Had Its Best, Most Prolific Year Yet In 2024
@LikelySatan "Space Station Silicon Valley" will most likely get a unofficial PC port later like Starfox 64 etc.
Re: Opinion: Nightdive Studios Had Its Best, Most Prolific Year Yet In 2024
@SBandy1 Body Harvest were the prototype for GTA 3.
Same developer.
Re: Opinion: Nightdive Studios Had Its Best, Most Prolific Year Yet In 2024
@SuperBloodborneMaker
Re: Opinion: Nightdive Studios Had Its Best, Most Prolific Year Yet In 2024
@ZZalapski Correct.
Re: Star Fox 64 Finally Barrel Rolls Onto PC Thanks To An Unofficial Port
Re: Star Fox 64 Finally Barrel Rolls Onto PC Thanks To An Unofficial Port
Re: Star Fox 64 Finally Barrel Rolls Onto PC Thanks To An Unofficial Port
@SBandy1 It was a unique racer, and people still talk about how good it were.
Hydro Thunder aged well, and i think Beetle aged as well too.
I found this info.
"Nearly all Nintendo 64 games can now be recompiled into native PC ports to add proper ray tracing, ultrawide, high FPS, and more"
Hopefully Beetle is among them.
Re: Star Fox 64 Finally Barrel Rolls Onto PC Thanks To An Unofficial Port
Re: Star Fox 64 Finally Barrel Rolls Onto PC Thanks To An Unofficial Port
I just tried it on PC now, and it's a lot better than i expected.
Re: Star Fox 64 Finally Barrel Rolls Onto PC Thanks To An Unofficial Port
@SBandy1
Re: Don't Expect Any More Miniature Consoles From Sega
They will put the DC and Saturn games in the Sega "Game Pass" sub instead and is why we can forget more mini consoles.
It's only a matter of time before Sega remove more old games from stores.
Nintendo never made a N64 and GameCube Mini consoles either because of Nintendo Online sub...My Guess is that GameCube will be added for Switch 2.
Re: Sega Is "Evaluating" Its Own Netflix-Style Subscription Service
One thing is for sure, they can't afford to compete with Game Pass.
Re: SNK Announces ACA NEOGEO Selection Vol. 3 And Vol. 4 For Switch
I wonder how many times SNK milked these 30+ year old games.
A Switch cart could fit all SNK games.
Re: Nintendo Switch Finally Surpasses PlayStation 2's Lifetime Sales In The US
After Sony checked their garbage container, they will find more PS2 sales.
Re: Metacritic Reveals "The Worst Video Games Of 2024"
@Solomon_Rambling
You are right. If they reviewed all of the worst games, none of these games would even be on bottom 1000 list as there were around 24000 new games released in 2023 for example.
Metacritic is irrelevant as usual.
Re: Surprise Leak Reveals Lenovo Is Releasing Another Switch-Like Gaming Handheld
