Treasure — the famous Japanese developer known for titles like Gunstar Heroes, Sin and Punishment and Ikaruga — has just celebrated its 30th anniversary this week.
Yes, although we haven't seen a new game from the company since 2014, it's still alive and well. Apparently, it's even got plans for a highly requested title, according to a rough Google translation of a recent tweet. Here's exactly what it had to say:
"On June 19, 2022, Treasure Co., Ltd. celebrated its 30th anniversary! This year, the 30th anniversary, we are working hard to announce the highly requested "that" title. We look forward to your continued support of Treasure."
Treasure may not have necessarily been pumping out releases, but a number of its games are still available on the Switch.
Ikaruga got a release on the hybrid platform in 2018, and classic games like Sin and Punishment, Gunstar Heroes, Alien Soldier and Dynamite Headdy are all playable via the Switch Online Expansion Pack.

I can only think we are getting a version of Radiant Silvergun. Maybe a updated version of the 360 port or one with even more work put into it.

Maybe Ikaruga spoiled me, but when I tried Radiant Silvergun, it just didn’t do anything for me. I wonder if that’s the title?

I'm playing Alien Soldier for the first time now and frankly I don't see why it would need a remake at all. It's amazing.
Personally, I just want them to bring over Sin & Punishment 2 and Radiant Silvergun to the Switch. Or a new game in that style, sure.

Been waiting for some sort of Treasure Collection to come together for a long time. I'm so happy that a lot of the hits are out there and playable on Switch, but would love something that doesn't require a subscription to play these; And for Mischief Makers to be available!

Not necessarily. Treasure has put out a few mediocre games over the years.
Treasure don't exist anymore do they? It's literally more of a licensing company. All of the programmers that created the classics are nothing to do with it anymore. Just give us a RSG switch port physical.
A collection of HD remasters would be nice. But a brand new shooter would be cool too.

Astro Boy: Omega Factor is my favorite GBA game. It's a longshot with all the licensing hiccups, but I would OVER THE MOON if that's what they're up to.

@RushDawg Well those are few and far between. I obviously don't wanna assume it's gonna be a another 10/10 like their other games, because that just breeds disappointment, but most of Treasure's stuff is always gold

I'm guessing news will probably relate to Gunstar Heroes, Sin & Punishment, Radiant Silvergun, or Ikaruga, but I would just love for them to release Mischief Makers on NSO and I can die happy. Of course, follow-ups to any of those, or even the re-release of Radiant Silvergun would be fine for me.

@YANDMAN That was the first thing I thought when I saw the headline. Is this even the same company? Same designers and programmers? If it is, what have they been doing since 2014? Does Treasure pay them salaries to sit around for eight years waiting for someone to decide it's time for another game? Don't they get bored?
Not to rain on anyone's parade, the name Treasure fills me with excitement too. But I really doubt that it's the same people who made the games Treasure is famous for. And if it's not, there's not a lot to be excited about.
Someone who has some knowledge of the situation please tell me I'm wrong. This is one time I'd like to be wrong.
Regardless of whatever this is, it’s already the announcement of the year for me. Treasure is my favourite game developer and I’m just happy to hear they’re active on something/anything. Bangai-O for the DS is my #1 Game All Time. I can’t believe this is happening!

To be fair, Mischief Makers is like the hidden gem amongst hidden gems. Very few people know of it, to the point it doesn't even show up on a lot of top hidden gems lists v.v
Would be amazing for it to get a remaster/sequel, but considering we're talking about a highly requested title here, I'm putting my money on their bigger stuff: something with Radiant Silvergun (still blows my mind this one isn't on Switch yet) or Sin & Punishment.

It’s vaguely surreal to see this article when the companie’s output has been little more than a few HD ports and that 3DS game. Back in the day there were rumblings RS3 was in active development, I even remember a long shot rumor that Treasure submitted a new Darius to Microsoft in the 360 era. Again I’m not expecting anything too nuts….

Is Treasure a Nintendo second party developer? Didn't they used to make Sega exclusives?
They are top quality either way. Still have the original sin and punishment downloaded on wii, and gunstar heroes 3d was great. Kinda want to see them do something ambitious.
@BongoBongo123 Treasure was exclusively Sega until the 32-bit era when they started branching out with Mischief Makers for N64 and Sillhouette Mirage for PS1/Saturn.
After Sega exited the home console business, they catered primarily to Nintendo, barring a couple of ports for the PS2 and Xbox360.
