Honestly Roger Craig Smith's Sonic voice has grown on me quite a bit
I still prefer him as Boom Sonic over Modern Sonic but honestly the writing in this episode alone is way more funny than almost anything in Sonic Colors to me
Honestly for me the representation, while great, is something I tend to try to subtract from the equation when looking at these games more closely
If they're crappy characters with not much else to say about themselves beyond their sexual orientation, I don't think applauding them for representing a minority group is really going to change that for me. I've read plenty of stories where the most a writer had to say about a character they created was "he/she is or they are trans/bi/gay/pan. Isn't that cool!?"
Characters like Madeline from Celeste are an example of how I think this kind of representation works because it doesn't force that message down your throat and you can actually see yourself in or sympathize with said characters even without the added representation of a specific group of people, which benefits both groups since you have a well written character and then for those who are of a specific orientation, they can see themselves in that too
I'll admit, not as cringe inducing as the other two numbered entries but it still comes off a lot like a bunch of 40 year olds coming together to mimic what they think teens and young adults talk like
One of the things I definitely want to do when finished with Uni, is attend one of those Final Fantasy Distant Worlds concerts.
Uematsu accomplished so much when his hardware was more limited during the NES, SNES and PS1 eras of the games and hearing so many of those tracks like Dancing Mad, Battle on the Big Bridge, Omen, One Winged Angel and JENOVA Complete completely reorchestrated on my Spotify from the albums, fully transforms those songs and sound incredible. I love chiptune music when done right, but damn the orchestral sound is something else
@BrazillianCara I'd say new SamSho has a sort of cel-shaded look to it given the emphasis on Japanese caligraphy and water color in the art direction. It's very SF IV-ish
About time Baiken came back honestly. She's a pretty freaking big name character as far as SamSho goes
EDIT: Holy crap I had a MASSIVE brain fart moment and accidentally mashed GG Strive and SamSho together lmao. Honestly it's really cool she's here but why the hell isn't she in GG yet?
The SNES/DS cover art is a lot more dynamic whereas in Japan they seemed to just go with the template of "assortment of characters from the game" they were already doing to an extent with Final Fantasy covers in that region
@TSR3 Yeah I can't see Xbox's big hitters going multiplatform. Halo, Gears and Forza are like the big three in terms of games they actually want people to buy Xboxes for
@GrailUK Phil already said the Switch on his shelf was purely because it was actually a gift from Nintendo alumni. It had nothing to do with any sort of teasing according to him.
Makes sense. Microsoft are clearly expanding their horizons in regards to putting Xbox on as many devices as possible but they're never going to straight up slap their content onto competing platforms since it would lessen the general desire from a consumer standpoint for an Xbox console
@Godzil Game Pass isn't just cloud gaming. The xCloud thing to my knowledge is only a benefit for the higher tier subscriptions. Otherwise you can just subscribe to Game Pass and download the games you want
@Friendly Couldn't be farther from the truth considering Life is Strange had essentially no association with Nintendo before this game. The demographic for this game is the same demographic for the people who played the other Life is Strange games (i.e. PlayStation, Xbox and PC users)
@Vincent294 Thing is it's already been confirmed you can actually go between your world and the alternate Tokyo in both your regular and Nahobino forms respectively so I almost wonder if your real world stuff can influence your time spent in Da'at and how that affects what ending you get for example since there seems to be a more even balance, especially given it looks like they got rid of dedicated dungeons and even a traditional world map in favor of just one giant free roam area with demons and different regions and the like
SMT IV did start in your kingdom with you and the other Samurai, but even when you went to other areas/dungeons your team usually followed you around since it was part of the story and your pursuit of the Black Samurai
They're showing a lot more of the school stuff than I anticipated we were getting.
I know people roll their eyes when the comparison is made but honestly it looks like we might be getting a bit of Persona in our mainline SMT game, or at least some social system like the Three Houses support function that also will probably have some direct effect on stuff like alignments or our "bonds" to the other major human characters since we see a lot of them conversing with Protagonist/Nahobino. The interior of the school is especially giving me major Yasogami High vibes
This survey has a weird way of categorizing other RPG series
So they use action RPG as one genre preference in one of the questions (citing Horizon Zero Dawn and NiER Automata as examples), JRPGs (citing Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest and Persona), and then stuff like Elder Scrolls V are just called "RPGs", not even western
Apparently they also claim GTAV is an open world RPG as well despite no semblance of an RPG progression system
This seems like such a fitting choice for the character given the types of characters Elba usually plays (including just recently with Bloodsport in The Suicide Squad), but I can't even imagine how he'd sound as Knuckles, and whether it'd just be "Idris Elba as Knuckles" or "Idris Elba trying to do a Knuckles impression with his British-ness"
First one developed by Nintendo was probably for me Pokemon Diamond on DS
I didn't play a ton of Nintendo games growing up since my household was mostly a PlayStation-playing household outside of a brief encounter with a GameCube at a McDonald's kiosk in the early 2000's (the DS Lite was my first Nintendo console I ever owned), so my first exposures to platformers and the like were from stuff such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Crash Bandicoot, LittleBigPlanet and Ratchet & Clank. By the time I got exposed to Mario Kart likewise with the Wii entry, I was already into arcade-y style racers thanks to the likes of ModNation Racers and the Burnout series. To Pokemon's credit, it was the first RPG I played but not the one that would get me to become a fan of the genre, which ended up being Persona 3 Portable and later Final Fantasy X
This is unironically the second best Marvel-based game of the 2010s behind Marvel's Spider-Man
It's super fanservicey for anyone even remotely into the Marvel comics continuity, approachable to those who only started with the MCU films and even just enjoyable as a game even if you aren't really a Marvel fan
Also you get to play as Stan Lee and he can turn into Hulk at will and websling like Spider-Man. It's beautiful
@Dragwhite Judgement's a pretty good example although much like Persona kind of becoming its own thing adjunct from SMT, SEGA's clearly trying to turn Judgement into a franchise onto itself especially after Yakuza went the turn-based route
They need another series that plays more like how Yakuza used to be before Like a Dragon
@Dragwhite Honestly I wouldn't even call Miles Morales a spinoff of Insomniac's Spider-Man. It blatantly starts to set up things that will probably be explored in the next Peter Parker-centric game. especially the mid-credits scene. It's way less spinoff-y than Uncharted Lost Legacy which was what it was being compared to when it was revealed
Persona 4 Arena basically converted a legion of fighting game players into RPG enthusiasts and I've seen similar praise being heaped onto stuff like Theatrhythm, Dragon Quest Builders and Heroes and the Nintendo-licensed musou titles
Hell, my first exposure to Persona 4 after having played P3P in 2011 was watching a friend play P4A on his 360, and then a year later I got a Vita with Persona 4 Golden and Arena Ultimax on PS3 the year after that. Spin-off titles and their diversity in genre while being resoundingly faithful to the source material can really do a lot in bringing in new people into a game series or even following a developer
I just picked up World of FF Maxima on Switch after having missed the original game on PS4/Vita and it's honestly a super underrated spinoff. The summons of all the other Final Fantasy characters are adorable
@Heavyarms55 You're probably accustomed to lower resolutions and framerates at this point given you seem to only be a Switch gamer but take it from someone who does game on PC regularly, once you actually see how good things can look with the right hardware it's almost hard to go back, especially in regards to multiplatform games
I actually gave up on trying to play Wolfenstein 2 on Switch because of how much blurry it was, whereas on other platforms it does a much better job of preserving the game's artistry and attention to detail in my opinion. Doesn't make the port bad, but sacrifices had to be made
@FargusPelagius Nintendo is practically never allowing their games to be sold through a client that isn't them. They're the last console manufacturer that's actually completely restricted to the console when it comes to their games. If it's not on Nintendo hardware, then you're not playing it through any means that isn't unofficial like emulation
@MagnaRoader Because it's a good game made by a fellow fan who clearly has a passion for the series? What kind of logic is this?
We don't have to bootlick every thing done officially by the franchise's creators. Especially given where Metroid was in terms of the state of the series when AM2R came out, it deserved all the attention it got
Hell, in cases like this and Sonic Mania, it literally broke fans into the games industry proper and gave them the funding to do what they wanted full time. Sonic Mania is literally a game made by fans who were previously doing things like rom hacks, hardware conversions and unofficial fangames, who were poached by SEGA and basically got to work on the franchise they were celebrating as a hobby, but as an actual job.
@EriXz Sakurai has a LOT of friends in the games industry. The only reason Solid Snake got into Brawl was because Kojima is a really good friend of his and begged him to include the character in Melee, which was too far in development at the time to make that arrangement. He also visited Kojima Productions while they were developing Death Stranding on PS4 and Kojima posted about it on his Twitter
He's also apparently friends with or has talked with one of the Atlus chairmen and they literally conducted an entire video interview of him just talking about the Persona series after Joker was announced at the Game Awards in 2018
@idork99 Neither of them are touching Switch numbers since both are obviously targetting way more specific audiences, but Playdate honestly seems like more of a novelty item. Its games look to be super indie-focused and niche due to the crank controls being super unconventional. It's cute but probably not for everyone
Steam Deck at least has the backing of literally the entire PC gaming infrastructure and all the benefits that come with gaming on Steam like Steam Sales, PC games, multiplats being best on PC typically, Xbox and Sony games being published on PC periodically (more in Microsoft's case than the latter)
