Re: Video: Atlus Releases A New Story Trailer For Shin Megami Tensei V

TheFrenchiestFry

@nessisonett The people moaning about Persona 5 on Switch and stuff are mostly bitter that Smash has been getting a better lineup of PlayStation All Stars than PlayStation All Stars instead of third party characters that are "familiar to the Nintendo crowd" as if nobody knows who Solid Snake and goddamn Cloud Strife are

They will continue to bicker. Only people who realize Atlus should be supported regardless of series will be picking this one up and I hope those people increase in numbers thanks to the exposure games like Persona, Catherine and Nocturne HD got

Re: Video: Atlus Releases A New Story Trailer For Shin Megami Tensei V

TheFrenchiestFry

The plot sounds incredibly similar to Nocturne in terms of set up but has some Strange Journey vibes with the integration of an organization overseeing efforts to fight the demons as well

I love that they're going a bit more open ended by having you traverse the world in an open ended fashion. It looks like instead of dungeons you just roam around Tokyo fighting and allying with demons, which sounds like a great progression for the series and something that's really well suited to handheld play in particular

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo Is More Collaborative And Open Than Ever, Which Benefits Us All

TheFrenchiestFry

I really hope they do more indie collabs or third party collaborations in the future. One of my favorite things about the DS/GameCube era was when Nintendo would be fully hands on with third party games coming to their systems and it would result in really cool crossover content like Link in SoulCalibur 2 or MGS Twin Snakes having Nintendo easter-eggs and replacing all the PS1 game references with stuff like Psycho Mantis finding out you like Super Smash Bros. and Mario Sunshine. I also wasn't even thinking about buying Skyrim again on Switch but then they showed off the Zelda gear you could equip on your Dragonborn

I will only accept a Tekken 7 port on Switch if it either comes with all the cool Nintendo costumes from Tag 2 on Wii U or Captain Falcon as a guest character

Re: Atlus Has Seven "Project" Reveals Planned For Persona's 25th Anniversary

TheFrenchiestFry

@Orpheus79V Exactly. That and SMT V being this close to release means they're probably going to wait until that project is close to or is out the door and then blow their load off with Persona stuff since they clearly have a lot of stuff planned

Each main entry goes into pre-production after the latest one releases so P6 has been in development since around 2017/2018. It's probably about time it gets officially revealed or even teased like P5 did in 2013

Re: EA Is Bringing Another Legacy Edition Of FIFA To Nintendo Switch

TheFrenchiestFry

@anoyonmus Hypermotion is also exclusive to next gen. The PS4 and Xbox One versions are probably just using Frostbite like they always have. It might be more taxing to get it to work on Switch but they clearly cut corners for PvZ and that's a full fat game using the same engine that PS4/Xbox One use. They clearly can't get Hypermotion to work but anything is better than just sticking with Ignite which has been in use since like 5 or 6 FIFAs ago. Ignite looks extremely ancient now and the animations just haven't aged well

Re: Talking Point: Where Does The Switch OLED Announcement Leave The Rumoured Switch Pro?

TheFrenchiestFry

@CactusMan Handhelds have and always have been where they retained a massive footprint in the industry even as consoles past the SNES struggled to really capture the high obtained by their inital efforts. Even the most successful competing handhelds like the PSP were still selling a fraction of how well the DS managed to accumulate sales and an install base by end-of-life. The only platform in general that managed to edge it out was PS2, which had been going strong for 4 straight years when DS dropped. The Wii was largely successful due to its targeting of people who don't traditionally play video games but it's not like those people were going to come back to it anyway if they were hooked, which is why the Wii U doing the same thing backfired so spectacularly. Switch tapping into both ecosystems ensured it wouldn't alienate either audience of casual or core gamers which is why it worked way more effectively compared to most prior consoles.

Re: Talking Point: Where Does The Switch OLED Announcement Leave The Rumoured Switch Pro?

TheFrenchiestFry

I think a 4K capable Switch or just Nintendo console in general will end up pointing to Nintendo's next console in general or a Switch successor since I can see Switch becoming a DS-style line of consoles in of itself

Nintendo as of late have always been like a generation behind everyone else in terms of actual spec bumps. It took them three whole consoles to give us a console with an ethernet port. I'm not expecting a 4K Nintendo console until Nintendo flat out makes a new home console or a new Switch

Re: Random: That Guy Playing The Switch OLED In His Hallway Is Driving Social Media Bonkers

TheFrenchiestFry

This is probably even more unrealistic of a scenario than that whole cookout scene from the original Switch reveal trailer lol

Man didn't even like go up to his room or to where his Switch dock is in his entertainment center. He just came home without saying hi to his wife and started playing Pokemon Diamond lol

Although tbf if the game was SMT V I'd be doing the same thing

Re: Universal's New Streaming Exclusivity Deal Will Affect Super Mario Movie

TheFrenchiestFry

@travisrusko Considering the film has reportedly entered full production now according to Shuntaro Furukawa, if they haven't gotten Charles Martinet in a recording booth as of now, they probably won't anytime soon. Knowing Illumination they'll probably cast big name Hollywood actors for the voices like Dwayne Johnson as Mario and Lin Manuel Miranda as Luigi or something

Re: Universal's New Streaming Exclusivity Deal Will Affect Super Mario Movie

TheFrenchiestFry

People were actually expecting Charles Martinet to be approached for the role

This is Hollywood baby! We're not playing by Nintendo's rules anymore. Illumination has infamously been a studio that loves making movies, especially adaptations as cheaply as possible. It's literally their mantra, all while casting bankable actors whose names they can stick on posters and advertising. Even Paramount did that with Sonic given Jim Carrey was everywhere in the advertising and both him and James Marsden were given top billing over the literal voice of the title role

I usually play devil's advocate and give the benefit of the doubt with movies like this until footage is shown, but Illumination has proved time and time again that they clearly don't have an artistic or creative drive behind any movie they make. They go the cheap, super cost effective route for the sake of their movies making mountains of profit. Of course they wouldn't care about hiring the voice associated with the character for decades. He's a nobody in Hollywood. It's all about the star power with them.

Miyamoto being a "producer" on this film will probably not mean anything in regards to the film's actual quality or even faithfulness to the material. Liberties will inevitably be taken to pander the film towards casual audiences who vaguely remember the image of an NES controller and not people who are actually Nintendo fans

Re: Nintendo Confirms There's No CPU Or RAM Upgrade In The OLED Switch

TheFrenchiestFry

Wasn't expecting that much anyway

I was always under the assumption that the next Nintendo console whether it be the Switch 2 or something new would be where they attempt to address the power disparity between them and Sony/Microsoft

I was honestly expecting 4K output in TV mode though. Kind of seems weird to solely cater this model seemingly to just the people who play in handheld mode when it's a full fat Switch and not a Lite model

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Switch OLED Model Looks Lovely, But May Also Disappoint

TheFrenchiestFry

I was at least holding out hope for some upgrade to the dock that would benefit players who game more in TV Mode like 4K output or something like that. As is I feel people who game in handheld almost exclusively like myself might get a lot more mileage out of the upgrade

I still think 64GB of internal storage is meager though. There are games on Switch with download sizes that take up half that capacity

Re: Nintendo Switch OLED Screen: Why Is OLED Better Than LCD?

TheFrenchiestFry

As someone who's owned both a launch Vita with the OLED screen and the Slim one with the LCD screen it does make a difference, especially in regards to games I played like Tearaway, Gravity Rush, Persona 4 Golden and Killzone Mercenary. The colors just pop a lot more even if LCD isn't that much of a downgrade by comparison and the Switch's screen as is still looks great for a handheld

Again though it kind of sucks that there are basically no new upgrades for people who game in TV Mode primarily. I was at least expecting an update to the dock output if anything at all, not necessarily a spec bump or anything
