Darksiders III is finally headed to Nintendo Switch next month, THQ Nordic has announced.
After initially launching for PS4 and Xbox One back in November 2018, the game – a sequel to Darksiders II – will launch on Nintendo's platform on 30th September 2021. On top of the digital edition, it's also being treated to a physical release, arriving in select retail stores on the same day.
Players return to an apocalyptic planet Earth in Darksiders III, a hack-n-slash action-adventure where players take on the role of FURY in her quest to hunt down and dispose of the Seven Deadly Sins. The Charred Council calls upon FURY to battle from the heights of heaven down through the depths of hell in a quest to restore the balance between good and evil and prove that she is the fiercest of the FOUR HORSEMEN.
FURY is a mage, her form evolving throughout gameplay and with it, her powers and weaponry. The expansive Darksiders III game world is presented as an open-ended, living, free-form planet Earth, dilapidated by war and decay, and overrun by nature. FURY will traverse back and forth between environments, battling other-worldly creatures and unlocking puzzles while advancing the Darksiders story.
Our chums at Push Square awarded the PS4 version of the game a 6/10 score, praising its "great protagonist and undemanding combat systems," but feeling that it was "a step behind other modern action games" available on the platform.
The Switch version will include both the Keepers of the Void and The Crucible DLCs as standard, and will be priced at 39.99€ / USD 39.99 / £ 34.99.
Excited for this one? Let us know in the usual place.

Nice, I haven't played this series but I wondered if this would ever happen. THQ Nordic continues to be one of the best third-party publishers on the Switch.
It's on games with Gold on xbox right now...and it's, well it isn't very good. The first two are alot better. I guess it's another game in the library though.
@moodycat That's what caught me off guard about this release! Just like...seriously? How many other perspectives do we need here?
Aww yeah!!! Day 1 and all DLC and physical?
Here 💰
I'm pumped! Love me some Darksiders!
Gimme gimme gimme!
Darksiders is probably one of my favorite 3rd parties to come from the '00s.
A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one!
I just got this for free on Xbox, awesome to see that it's on Switch.
I finished this one on PS4 but if this is all on the cartridge I will get it day 1!!!
Sounds interesting, I remember trying the first Dark Siders on PC but something about it didn’t grab me. Is the 3rd game better, or worse than the first game, in anyone’s opinion?
Day 1, I have it on ps4
Not a bad game. If you’re a fan of the 1st one’s cribbing of Zelda gameplay and the 2nd one’s aping of GoW, then be warned that this one mimics a more Dark Souls gameplay. While original fans decried this change to the formula, I dug it and have since decimated this game.
Edit: 100% achievements on SX btw
Thank you for clarifying that Darksiders III is a sequel to Darksiders II.
It's fine but honestly nowhere near as great as the first two
hoping any bugs or glitches get patch up cause i remember on the wii u version of the second one had alot of freeze issues.
Ah crap, i clicked because i thought it said "DARKSTALKERS III". Well, bye
I'm glad Switch owners will get a chance to play this title but it's not a patch on the first two and quite underwhelming.
@BloodNinja it's worse than the first & the second still enjoyed it though but if you don't like the first game you wouldn't like the second or this one because they're all really similar
£35 for a 3 year old game that's been given away free everywhere else what a joke.
@Mr-Fuggles777 Nothing is free on Nintendo consoles. That is a staple
Yet, if the release is good I buy it one more time
Better late than never. Sadly, 3 isn't as good as the others. 2 and genesis (with a friend) are the highlights of this series.
@Would_you_kindly Good to know! Thank you.
@Rpg-lover I heard it had all kinds of glitches and difficulty problems when it first launched. Did they at least patch it up?
Day 1 physical and I already own it physical for Xbox.
@Mr-Fuggles777 You would rather they launch it for free? It still costs them money to recode, program and optimize (and distribute physically) for an entirely different platform, which is portable unlike the other platforms currently on.
I thoroughly enjoyed Darksiders 3 and its Souls-like gameplay. 2 is still the highlight of the series so far though.
@Zuljaras ignore him, he's just a regular troll around here most of the time, don't take him too seriously ))
I'm surprised. Darksiders 3 is really good.
Meh, so many good games coming.
I'm interested how it will run, since it's a much better looking game than 1 and 2.
Destroy All Humans got it's hits by porting, but still runs ok.
And how could they rate Darksiders 3 with 6/10? It deserves 8
@Bizzyb or stop porting such old games that have been given away everywhere else and actually release new games on Switch.
Cool been wanting to play this for sum time now
Cartridge all the way cool
@Mr-Fuggles777 they are trying to make some money. It’s free on Xbox because Microsoft paid them. Some people only have time to game to and from work. If these people have tried the game on Xbox and like the game but don’t have the time to play it at home it might be worth buying for them.
More choice is wonderful. This game is not taking the place of another game. The amount of games released is not limited. If there is no audience they won’t make money. What does it matter to you mate ?
Great news, hopefully it runs well without crashing (always seems a problem with Nordic games on Nintendo systems). A pity though that it seems to be a release at select retailers. Sounds like it will be in short supply.
Can't wait for a true sequel to Darksiders. These other games either take place before or during the first game.
I was hoping for this. I’ve only partly played the first two so far but someday I plan to finish them
This is a nice surprise! I'll definitely pick up a copy to go with Darksiders 1 & 2. I didn't think Darksiders 3 was coming to Switch so I picked up an Xbox One copy a while back for around $10. I haven't played it yet so I'll be playing the Switch version instead! September is another stacked month with game releases. My poor wallet
Hell yeah, the trilogy is complete!
The first two were pretty cool. I'll hold out for a review of it first, though.
I love Darksiders. Will most definitely be picking this one up.
@BloodNinja People rave about the first one, claim it's the most Zelda, but honestly, I can't really get into the first one either. Part of it I think is the all-brown mid-PS360 era color pallete. Not only is it drab looking, but I think it makes some puzzles and navigation harder than they're intended to be because everything blends together. That, and the level design of the era often leaves a lot to be desired. The first also had to many "survive the endless spawning waves of monsters" moments and got stale to me.
I absolutely loved the second one, though. There's always quirks to the series, it's not the most polished experience around, but I think the second one balanced more the dungeon/puzzle aspects with the exploration aspects and didn't fall into as many "old brown design" pitfalls as the first. The last third though felt poorly paced.
I think some just love the fairly unusual for the genre apocalyptic/industrial setting of the first more than the more "generic" fantasy focused setting of the second. I personally don't think there's more Zelda-ness to the first than the second when in dungeons.
The third is kind of a whole different game. There are aspects that will be familiar, but it's significantly more Soulsborne inspired, with a lot of the structure being copy/paste Soulseborne Lite. As a Soulsborne fan, you'll probably like that a lot. As a non-Soulsborne fan I actually didn't mind it that much. I like the old formula more and hate the "campfire" risk/reward systems of Soulsborne, but the play clicked with me more than actual Soulsborne games do.
Nice to have all four Darksiders games on Switch now. Still need to hop into this series myself but I'm a lot more tempted now knowing I'll have the entire series on Switch.
My brother LOVED this game. He's a massive Souls fan and the new combat system really gelled with his taste.
I liked what I played but it was difficult (then again, so were the first two games).
Provided it runs well enough, I'm all over it.
@NEStalgia That’s interesting, I’ll definitely do some research on it. Thank you for sharing your experience, I always enjoy your posts!
Still hadn't finish the first three games (Warmastered, Deathinitive, and Genesis) yet so this turd one will have to wait.
Save ur money, folks. At least it's only $40, but it will be way cheaper eventually & they shouldn't be rewarded for this unpolished of a release. I played it for free on game pass & wish i could have my time back.
All that talk about Darksiders being like Zelda for me to pick up the first two when they were on sale. That wasn’t the case (at least in my estimation) and I lost interest quickly. Don’t think I’ll be trying another one.
@PaulBizkit same thing with me, one can dream I guess
@Mr-Fuggles777 get it elsewhere then, entitled person on the Internet
I can't wait for Darksiders 4 where you can play as all 4 of them.
Luckily I already found 2 Dutch online-shops where you could pre-order. I have pre-ordered it, lets hope it isn't broken.
I'm picking this up. No BOTW2 but at least there are games to play this autumn.
I played the first two. It's an alright series. I like Zelda, and I like God of War, but for whatever reason Darksiders never fully clicked with me.
