Re: The Forgotten City - Cloud Version Is Out Today On Switch

TheFrenchiestFry

Pro Tip: If you were really THAT excited to play games like this, why would you not buy a platform ahead of time that got these games on a regular basis and didn't get them in a severely stripped down form as is to be expected on a console like Switch

Switch should've been at the absolute bottom of your priority list if you were that excited specifically for Control, Hitman 3 or this, just saying. It's really not that viable for the AAA third party stuff compared to either of its competitors

Re: Feature: Our Predictions For The September 2021 Nintendo Direct

TheFrenchiestFry

I predict:

  • The Smash character that will inevitably disappoint almost everyone
  • A third party port you're surprised took so long to come to Switch
  • A third party port you're surprised even came to Switch in the first place
  • Project Triangle Strategy being re-revealed with the totally revolutionary new name of "Triangle Strategy"
  • a game that will serve as the "bathroom break" period for many viewers
  • and lastly, Metroid Dread getting a 20 minute spotlight despite the fact it comes out in like 2 weeks

Re: Random: Scalpers Are Now Attempting To Sell "Limited Edition" Pokémon Oreos For Outrageous Prices On eBay

TheFrenchiestFry

@ShadowWeaver421 Honestly scalpers are hella smart about this kind of stuff if you think about it

They'll charge ludicrous prices but there are always those few people who clearly couldn't give a crap about their disposable income that would blow their cash for something as stupidly useless as this and they walk away with all the money

I don't agree with it, but they know exactly what they're doing and as long as it works, they keep doing it

Re: Talking Point: Remember When People Thought Switch Would Fail?

TheFrenchiestFry

Honestly I don't blame a lot of people for being skeptic about Switch's chances of success

I don't think anyone was doubting Nintendo pretty much had nowhere to go but up after the Wii U, but putting into perspective the fact 2016 was such a dry year for them and pretty much them alone and the fact they were so quick to brush Wii U under the rug even going as far as announcing Zelda would also get a version for their next gen console, people honestly had reason to be concerned back then

You also have to keep in mind Nintendo had long been detached from the conversation of the "console wars" or rivalry stuff and Sony was basically wiping the floor with Microsoft at this point especially coming off E3 that year. Switch was more of a "I'll believe it when I see it" sort of thing for the general audience who weren't diehard Nintendo fans. Of course now we know the Switch is a proven success and a major comeback story for the company, but 2015-2016 I recall being a really depressing as hell time to actually be a Nintendo fan

Re: Random: IGN's 'Best Video Game Of All Time' Tournament Is Getting WILD

TheFrenchiestFry

@Clarice Except in GTA whether you actually turn completely to a life of crime or choose to actually reform is completely up to you. Some of the criminal activities you do are completely unalterable but especially in GTA V it's about how the playable characters rise above their previous misdeeds and attempt to turn over a new leaf despite being broken people with no other option before other than crime, especially for characters like Trevor and Michael

Re: Random: IGN's 'Best Video Game Of All Time' Tournament Is Getting WILD

TheFrenchiestFry

@Clarice If we're talking about the original OoT, Skyrim is VASTLY better in terms of sheer replayability and density in content by comparison. Games like Breath of the Wild were literally built off a lot of Elder Scrolls' fundamentals in open world progression and design for a reason. It also actually has a story that can be summarized in more than just a paragraph or two which gives it bonus points

Re: Random: IGN's 'Best Video Game Of All Time' Tournament Is Getting WILD

TheFrenchiestFry

@RBRTMNZ Just because these games are mature does not signify that gamers ONLY like those kinds of games. Games like Witcher 3 and Bloodborne are still very well crafted and should be judged on their own merits as games and not catering to a non-existent bias for people who want their visuals to be muddy and grey

The fact Witcher and Zelda made the finals bracket literally flies in the face of that argument lol. Those games are vibrant as hell

Re: Atlus Reveals New Details About Persona's 25th Anniversary Celebrations

TheFrenchiestFry

@Heavyarms55 Until very recently Atlus in house didn't really have the budget to consistently support multiplatform games for their big flagship RPGs, so they mostly just focused on a single platform that was typically the most popular at that time. Persona has a proven track record of selling really well on PlayStation so they saw no reason to deviate, and SMT after switching consoles throughout each gen has a proven track record of doing well on Nintendo, so now that's just the way

They keep talking about branching out to more systems especially after P4G's success on PC, but I wouldn't hold my breath. SMT and Persona are essentially third party exclusives to their respective consoles at this point.

Also no chance either of them would show up on Xbox in the near future. Atlus just doesn't care about that platform anymore after so many games bombed on those systems

Re: Huge Nvidia Database Leak Lists Unannounced Third-Party Games

TheFrenchiestFry

@dimi There's way more than just Persona 4 that's console exclusive from Atlus

Literally every Persona game except 1 and 4 are only available on consoles, not to mention a good majority of SMT games, and other Atlus games like Trauma Center, Etrian Odyssey and Dragon's Crown.

Atlus has never really prioritized PC as a platform over dedicated consoles in the case of their major flagship games until very recently

Re: Rumour: Huge Nvidia Database Leak Lists Unannounced Third-Party Games

TheFrenchiestFry

This is fake as all hell lmao

  • Chrono Cross remaster: Before Trigger? Seriously?
  • Kingdom Hearts 4: Do I even need to explain why this is fake
  • Shin Megami Tensei V on PC: This is f*cking Atlus we're talking about. We'll be waiting at least like another 9 years before this is real
  • MK12 and Injustice 3: NetherRealm have literally never worked on 2 fighting games simultaneously in this fashion, especially since they tend to dedicate resources to supporting one for a while before moving onto their next project
  • FFIX Remake: They haven't even finished VII in its entirety
  • Tekken 8: This ain't happening without Harada and I'm pretty sure he already stated his next project wasn't another Tekken

A lot of this just sounds either like it's piggybacking off of other rumored games or is extremely wishful, "too good to be true" game predicting. Reads like a Nintendo Direct leak honestly

EDIT: LMAO I WAS RIGHT THEY'RE JUST SPECULATIVE

Re: Feature: Banjo And Final Fantasy On The Radio? VGM On Classic FM Was Only The Beginning

TheFrenchiestFry

@nessisonett I think those are examples of music that can actually go well with the mainstream listener considering they directly pull elements from popular music or genres in of themselves, especially in the cases of stuff like Persona due to that series' emphasis on vocal tracks, or stuff like God of War or Last of Us which are very cinematic and can even be compared to stuff like movie soundtracks

It's the fact that people pushing for VGM to be more widely appreciated are using examples that only really fit the mood of the game but aren't as applicable anywhere else, like stage music in a platformer or fighting game music and stuff like that. It's very situational and not something that helps that subsection of music break out of the niche it's perceived to be in

Re: Feature: Banjo And Final Fantasy On The Radio? VGM On Classic FM Was Only The Beginning

TheFrenchiestFry

I honestly think some of the examples used in this article kind of inadvertently highlight why there are casual music enthusiasts who don't consider video game music "real music" per se

Nobody who isn't a diehard fan of something like Final Fantasy for example, is going to really recognize the Prelude track. I'd honestly argue it doesn't really feel like music fit for the casual listening experience compared to songs you actually hear on mainstream radio or even see in other people's Spotify for the most part. Same with the Hyrule Field theme

I ain't saying it's worse than mainstream radio because I generally turn to Spotify and my own album list for listening instead of radio tracks, but there is a reason why VGM just hasn't really broken out of that particular niche. I have a lot of VGM on Spotify but it's not really something I turn on casually. I'm way more likely to put on stuff like To Pimp a Butterfly, or 808 & Heartbreaks, or Rage Against the Machine or System of a Down, before "Mumbo's Mountain" or "Vega Stage"

Re: Video: Here's Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of Sonic Colors Ultimate On Nintendo Switch

TheFrenchiestFry

@quinnyboy58 Switch version is considerably rougher on a technical level than either PS4 or PC. The framerate tanks during stuff like the Fiend fights, there's slowdown during regular demon encounters, and that's in addition to all the other lazily implemented presentation quirks of the remaster like the bit-crushed audio and FMV sequences imo

If you're not having those problems, that's great, but SMTIII HD I thought was pretty disappointing considering it was the first time in years it ever got a re-release

Re: Video: Here's Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of Sonic Colors Ultimate On Nintendo Switch

TheFrenchiestFry

Damn two disappointing remasters in one year from SEGA? First SMT Nocturne and now this? Switch got the short end of the stick on both these efforts which is pretty surprising for Colors in particular given you'd think they'd give Switch more attention seeing as how the original game was a Nintendo-exclusive title

But with that being said, I am glad PS5 is positive in that regard because that's where I always intended to pick it up

They really need to outsource these to more capable talent though
