Re: Nintendo Direct June 2026: Every Announcement, Game Reveal & Trailer

@Friendly They’ve already raised the price in Japan and sales are falling, so it’s fair to expect the same to happen when the other regions get hit. Xenoblade and Fire Emblem aren’t going to do much to mitigate that effect. You need system sellers. Every console does. That’s what saved the 3DS (as well as a price cut). Like it or not, most people buy Nintendo consoles for the major exclusives. Now for me personally, I need system sellers because…they’re why I bought the system in the first place. If I had know we weren’t going to be getting a new 3D Mario before 2027, I would’ve been way cooler with sticking to my Switch. I’m still glad I bought it, but it does very much feel like I just bought a Switch Pro, and we never left the Switch 1 generation. It should also be noted that not everyone has the time and money to invest in multiple games. When you can only invest in one game for several months, you want to get something you know you’ll enjoy. That’s why so many people buy Mario Kart (both 8DX and World). Everyone knows Mario Kart delivers hours worth of enjoyment (though they had to have been scheming with that $80 price tag on World to get people to opt for buying the bundle for a discount). So, with that in mind, why would you buy the game with the hairy chimp and the Disney-looking kid at $70 if what you know and love is the red-capped mustache man (yeah, yeah, there is a demo, I know)? Or why would you give a crap about the game with the anime sword fighters when what you love is the man in green who visits all the locales you remember from your childhood (I’m not saying people want a brand new Zelda, I’m saying most people would rather just wait for the OoT remake instead of buying one of the bajillion JRPGs)? Or why would you care about all the realistic looking third party games with monsters and stuff that look the darn same to you and feature mature content when what you love is games that you and all your friends and family can enjoy? I’m sorry, but hardly anything in the direct (or what has been released for this console) either appealed or stood out to me. If they had just split it into a partner showcase and a direct mini, then I would have immediately known it was not going to appeal to me and I would have skimped out on watching it. But instead, after nine months without a traditional direct, they announced this direct as it is, in the middle of the summer, thus setting high expectations that they failed to meet when what we got was essentially the same thing in March. It was disappointing. I’m happy people who wanted more third party titles and updates to their games are happy, but to me, this felt like a total misfire.

@Friendly I agree that the Switch 2 has plenty of quality exclusives, but it’s still lacking the system sellers. It’s great that many Switch games are getting the upgrades deserve and that third party games are finally launching day and date on a Nintendo platform without major compromises other than slightly lesser visuals and frame rates. However, that’s only really good if you already have a Switch 2, love third party games, and either don’t have an Xbox, PlayStation, or PC or want to play these games portably. For those who don’t have a Switch 2 but have another modern platform or bought a Switch 2 for the big first party games, it is unfortunately very lacking. The Switch had BOTW (though that was originally meant for the Wii U), Splatoon 2, and Super Mario Odyssey, with announcements for a new Super Smash Bros. game occurring early in its second year. Meanwhile, we’ve gotten a brand new Mario Kart (something the Switch 1 didn’t really have) that could really benefit from a big update, a new Donkey Kong game that looks marvelous but doesn’t scratch the itch for a new Mario platformer, a Zelda spin-off, some lackluster tech demos (though every console gets stuck with those early on), a sequel to a rather niche Kirby spin-off, a Pokémon spin-off that did receive massive fan fare but doesn’t replace Animal Crossing, a Splatoon spin-off, a remake of a game in a niche series, a Mario spin-off that people seem to have forgotten about (which kind of sucks, because I loved Aces and Fever looks to be even better but unfortunately the price tag largely killed its appeal), and a Yoshi game that doesn’t look to appeal to everyone. Overall, I love the console, but it is in dire need of some big system sellers.

Re: Talking Point: What Do You Think Of Link's New Ocarina Of Time Design?

StewdaMegaManNerd

@Tasuki You know there are millions of people who think OoT is the greatest thing to ever happen? And this is the first time the game has received a total remake (and the game is almost 30). So why would they choose to port A Link Between Worlds instead? That would be equivalent to remastering New Super Mario Bros. instead of remaking Super Mario 64 (though Mario 64 has been rereleased far more often than OoT)

Re: Reaction: A Direct That Picked Up Pace For A Breathtaking Finish

StewdaMegaManNerd

Let’s see:

40% realistic hack-and-slashes

40% RPGs

10% updates to existing games

5% Switch Sports Resort which reuses a ton of content

4.5 % reminders of upcoming releases with the only thing revealed being a demo

0.5% Ocarina of Time

As a direct overall, it was incredibly average. As the first traditional direct this year, it was painful. It felt like we were being shown the same things over and over again. Nintendo Switch Sports Resort has thumb wrestling as a sport as well as five sports returning from the first game. Also, did y’all really have to base it off of Wii Sports Resort? Kinda makes it sound like a direct port. Kingdom Hearts 4, yay. Happy for KH fans, but that did nothing for me. The OoT remake looks great, but that’s based off of a minute of “footage”. And that’s the one thing I’m stoked for, but of course it had to get leaked. And after all that, we still didn’t get Tekken 8. I know I sound so petty, but it’s the one third-party game I really want to see on Switch 2, yet it’s starting to feel like it’s the one port that won’t happen (and only God knows when Tekken 9 will happen, if they feel it’s simply too late to bring Tekken 8 to the platform). Oh, and guess what? Still no news on a 3D Mario platformer. How long is this going to go on for? Not even a little tease. Also no updates for Mario Kart World or Tomodachi Life, but I guess those aren’t big deals. And the worst part? No Cars collection (I didn’t even know it was the 20th anniversary).

4/10

Re: Nintendo Direct Announced For Tomorrow, 9th June 2026

StewdaMegaManNerd

My predictions:

Ocarina of Time remake (actually really hoping it happens since the “follow-up” to TOTK likely won’t happen for a few more years)

Follow-up to Super Mario Odyssey (at least something)

Mario Kart World update

Tease for Super Smash Bros. (I feel like Animal Crossing will be held back for a fall announcement)

The biggest announcements from the other shows

Tekken 8 for Switch 2 (gonna keep saying this until it happens)

My outlandish prediction: Pixar Cars collection (Cars, Mater-national, Race-o-Rama, and Cars 2)

Re: Video: 11 Exciting New Games Coming To Switch 1 & 2 In June 2026

StewdaMegaManNerd

@jsty3105 Ok. I definitely used terrible wording and apologize for such. However, I still feel that using the word “new” is a bit misleading since several of these games have been out for multiple years. Simply saying that they’re exciting games would be far more accurate and would still drum up hype (that being said I am genuinely ticked off by how many people are saying that none of these are worth mentioning)
