Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Mario Tennis Fever

@Sindayl That is completely fair. Nintendo absolutely overcharges for their older releases. However, there are two important factors: 1) people are willing to pay full price for a 1st party Nintendo because it’s far more likely that they’ll get their money’s worth out of them, and 2) Nintendo games typically have a far longer lifespan compared to Xbox and PlayStation games, which are replaced by either sequels or enhanced versions after 1-3 years of relevancy.

Literally less than a year ago: “OMG ALL SWITCH 2 GAMES ARE GOING TO BE $80 START PREPPING YOUR DOOMSDAY BUNKERS!”

They retail for $70 on average, and a tennis game retails for that price after it’s predecessor also launched at what was at the time the average retail price of $60 after its incredibly barren predecessor launched slightly below the average retail price, instead retailing for $50, despite being worth like $20. This is how the community reacts: “OMG $70 for a tennis game with barely any single-player content is absurd. Nintendo is greedy and should follow in Sega’s footsteps. Now if you excuse me, Madden 27 is calling my name.”

Just admit y’all hate Mario Tennis, people

Re: Switch 2 Remains The Fastest-Selling Console In The US At 4.4 Million Units

@UpsideDownRowlet I personally don’t see the point in arguments like that. New consoles being readily available in retail environments at MSRP is better than new consoles being incredibly scarce and thus immediately bought out when available just to be sold on the second-hand market at double the price.

P.S. Just feel the need to clarify that I’m aware you’re being sarcastic.

Re: Switch 2 Predicted To Follow In PlayStation And Xbox's Footsteps This Year With "Global Price Hike"

@LazyDaisy Except that 99% of complaints about Nintendo and the Switch 2 are outright ridiculous. “Welcome Tour should have been a pack-in!” As if anybody would truly care if it were. “The games just aren’t as good these days!” Take off the nostalgia goggles. People 50 years from now are going to pretend that this era of gaming was the industry’s peak, just like how people today think the 64 is the greatest thing ever. “It’s incredibly overpriced!” The console itself? No. That’s just stupid. Xbox Series X consoles are going for $600 these days, and for our sanity I think we should avoid mentioning the PS5 Pro. Are the accessories overpriced? Yes. Very. Are the games overpriced? It depends. Mario Kart World and the Switch 2 updated version of SMPJ are definitely overpriced, but stuff like the BOTW and TOTK upgrades are fairly priced. “Nintendo is so money-hungry and has gone too far with its anti-consumer practices!” First of all, Iwata is gone. Only God knows if we’ll see a guy like him again. With that out of the way, we have to face the facts: it has always been this way. They sold the Virtual Boy. The 64. The Wii U. The 3DS. All of these consoles launched in underwhelming states, and the Wii U and 3DS were arguably more overpriced at the time compared to the Switch 2. Were the games cheaper? Yeah. Were they far more barren? Heck yeah. While many complaints about the Switch 2 are perfectly valid, most of them are completely overblown and aren’t going to lead to anything.
