Re: Review: Spelunky 2 - A Masterclass In Great Roguelite Game Design

SpacemanSpiff

I have a real problem with this game. And that's animal cruelty. I do NOT like watching the cutesy pets be skewered, stabbed smashed, and then their corpses bouncing around lifeless. You can sacrifice them while they're still alive or use their bodies to disarm traps. It's unnecessary and would absolutely traumatize my daughter if she ever caught glimpse of it.

There are an abundance of options you can tweak, a really impressive amount, but no blood off setting. That's bare minimum consideration for people's tastes and I'm outright angry over the lack of an option combined with the animal cruelty.

@Tandy255 Apart from stating the painfully obvious, whats your point?

I am very familiar with the guy having been on this site for quite some time. Stating your utter intolerance and referring to things others might like as evil is uncalled for when talking anout personal opinions. It's rude, unnecessary, and hateful. His remarks come from a place of hateful intolerance and i dont like it.

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Hackers Are Making Star Fragment Trees

I wouldn't really mind these shenanigans if it was a single-player game. What with all the time-traveling and abuse of the systems that has gotten so popular I'm afraid it'll wreck the intended longetivity of the game for many.

But then again, you have to make the choice to take advantage of this stuff, and I chose not to. Everybody can certainly play however they want. I just don't like it.

Guys, maybe it's just not for you. Not only that, but you're going on the attack demanding a direct or some game announcements instead of this.

Grow up and be patient. Kids will love this. Nintendo doesn't directly and solely cater to the needs, desires, and emotions of the hardcore gamers.

That's how it has always been done. Seeing these comments just makes me sad.

Re: Be There On The Double As PAW Patrol: On A Roll Pads Onto Switch

SpacemanSpiff

Yup, my daughter is obsessed with Paw Patrol. For some reason it just clicked with her and she had all the names and catchphrases down pretty much immediately. It's the very first cartoon she's clung on to, and she won't leave the house without her "Cha Cho", as she pronounces it, puppy. So yeah, I'll be picking this up.

She's turning 3 in June, so I doubt she'll be able to really play. I'm hoping it'll be at least passable fun for an adult to play while the kiddo squeals and shouts.

Not to worry though, I've already got her familiar with Mario and other Nintendo characters. I'm hoping sometime this year she'll make it past the Goomba in Super Mario Bros and be hooked from then on.

Today's comment sections have me seriously considering not only blocking Slig, but everybody who responds to him as well. Or heck, I'll leave his comments, but just block the responders. As much as I like you guys, honestly, the pissing that goes on in response is way, way more irritating than his comments themselves which I can disregard easily enough.

He's not going away, and he's not changing his views. Let's stop arguing and "biting" as he would say. Read his comment, say to yourself, "Yup. Of course that's how he feels." and keep on scrolling. Please.

@LUIGITORNADO

Lordy, what childish remarks!

I'm a 35 year-old married father who works full-time. The Switch's portability allows me to play when I can, be it during free-time at work or when the family is using the home TV. While my gaming PC and other consoles don't get much play anymore, the Switch fits my life perfectly, and has allowed me to find time to enjoy my hobby when I can.

But no, only children.

Re: Guide: Splatoon 2 - Adding, Removing and Picking Abilities

SpacemanSpiff

There are a few details missing here..

Special Power Up increases the radius of Splashdown, the radius of the targeting circle for Tenta Missles, and the duration of Ink Armor, Ink Jet, Ink Storm, Sting Ray, and all the bomb specials. It also increases the health of the Baller. It does not increase the damage of any of these.

Sub Power Up isn't that straightforward. It increases the performance, not the damage, of sub weapons. The throw range of suction bombs, auto bombs, burst bombs, point sensor, splat bomb, and toxic mist is increased. The speed is increased on the curling bombs, the effective range is increased for the ink mine, the durability is increased for the splash wall, duration increase for the sprinkler, and finally it increases the speed of which you can jump to a placed beacon.

Also, Run Speed Up increases the speed you move while firing, not just running around. So it's got some good utility.

Phew!

I've really been looking forward to this game! Since the Switch has completely taken over my handheld game time, this lovely little game will have to wait. Glad to see a great score!

Re: Danmaku Unlimited 3 Is Bringing Bullet Hell Brilliance To The Switch

SpacemanSpiff

(Googles TATE)... Ohhh, vertical. I naturally assumed it was an acronym, but I guess we're all just shouting the word, haha. Seems like that'd be pretty great with an undocked Switch. With a smaller TV I suppose one could flip it on its side - I saw some photos of people doing that with computer monitors. Looking at my TV now I have to admit it'd be pretty rad playing a vertical shmup with it oriented like that.

Anyway, I freakin love bullet hell games like Ikaruga and Espgaluda II. I'm excited one is coming to Switch.

Re: Sony Thinks You'll Buy A PlayStation 4 Alongside Your Nintendo Switch

SpacemanSpiff

Since the 360, I've been Xbox + DS/3DS. I have a dozen other consoles, but those two got the most playtime. Nowadays, I have an Xbox One which has only been used for Fallout, XCOM, Witcher, now is just an Overwatch machine, and my 3DS has grudgingly gotten put aside for the Switch.

Until now, I've always only had one current-gen console. NES over Sega, SNES over Genesis, PS1 over N64, PS2, 360, X1. The Switch fits the "second console" slot so perfectly for me, but I don't think I'd like it to be my only current console.

For the record, I do wish I had a PS4 over the Xbox at this stage. It was a gift though, so I'm quite happy with it.

Forty first

I'll probably pick up Minecraft. I played quite a bit of it on PC back in 2010 or so, and I know there have been many changes since then. Not that I'm itching for something to play. I'm still upgrading equipment and seed hunting in BOTW, some MK8 thrown in occasionally, and I'm having a lot of fun with NBA Playgrounds (looking forward to a much needed patch though).

SpacemanSpiff

I'd be very interested in this for the Neo Geo games as of right now.

@NEStalgia Yeah, I'm mega-hyped for Disgaea 5. More hyped than I've been for any other Switch game thus far. I've always looked at Playstation owners with envy since going the Xbox route after the PS2 because they got all the new entries in that series. Finally, I have a console with the newest Disgaea AND it's portable! Woop.

Re: The 3DS is Six Years Old in the Americas, How Time Flies

SpacemanSpiff

Quite possibly my favorite gaming device of all time going all the way back to the Atari 2600. The launch was rough, and I honestly felt pretty silly buying one right away. I started with the original black, then XL red, XL Zelda gold, and now the New XL black.

Over all these years, and thanks to the plethora of RPGs, I've racked up [pokes calculator] 6,176 hours total playtime with the following games at top 5:

1 - Kid Icarus: Uprising - 790 hours
2 - Animal Crossing: New Leaf - 417 hours
3 - Fantasy Life - 377 hours
4 - Bravely Default - 260 hours
5 - Rune Factory 4 - 233 hours
And then 17 (!) other games with 100+ hours.

There are still many games I'm looking forward to (DQ XI, FE: Valentia, Ever Oasis, RPG Maker Fes, Radiant Historia) and a couple I haven't played yet (Majora's Mask, no idea why I haven't yet, and Zero Escape 3)
