We thought there'd be an information drop ahead of June and all of the E3 madness, and so it's been proven with the announcement of a new Nintendo Direct. It'll be "focused mainly on ARMS and Splatoon 2", but will also have broader information on upcoming Switch and 3DS games.
It's all going down on 12th April at 3pm Pacific / 6pm Eastern / 11pm UK / midnight CET.
Here's hoping for a great Direct - as always we'll be hosting the stream in a live blog with chat and post-broadcast coverage.
Are you excited about this Nintendo Direct?

Interesting.
Release dates please!!!
I hope there's a mountain of quality 3rd party games announced. It hasn't a chance of succeeding without them. And they need to release details about online like its price. They forgot about Wii U.
Holy moly trolly poly!!
Just hook it to my veins!
YES! FINALLY!
Sweet, let's get the hype going!
I have zero interest on either of those games, so I will be giving this a miss. Hopefully something good will come out of this though, you never know.
Beyond hype! Really hoping there's a surprise download available after the presentation!
The more Directs the better! I always look forward to these.
@BLP_Software I love the "Wii U in a fire" update to the Hype Train! What a disappointing console.
But man finally a Direct! Cannot wait! Switch is such an amazing console. I can't get enough of it.
I had a hunch they would do one in April. Once you look at their patterns, it's easily predictable when they will do a Direct.
Ah well, bring it on ARMS!
Oh, I'll definitely check it out.
I hope there's some more information on Pikmin 3DS.
@Cosmic-K9 Don't say that! You'll set SLIGEACH_EIRE off about how he'll play the damn thing even after death.
In all seriousness, I'm happy to see a Direct mainly focused on my two favourite games of this year - ARMS and Splatoon 2. Can't wait for more gameplay and a damn release date for ARMS!
Find your local viewing times here: (it's 8am Thursday for us in Sydney)
https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?iso=20170412T2200
Pikmin 4....? I'm not as interested about the 3DS one, just a version for the Switch.
@ThomasBW84 -NOT THE 14th!
ARMS is listed as spring release. I bet it'll come out on the last day of May or something.
Hurray, Nintendo and I are finally on the same page, been waiting for this for awhile now. Thanks Nintendo.
ARMS and Splatoon 2 need release dates, the paid online needs a fully fleshed out explanation.
Don't expect any new Switch game announcements, that's what E3 is for.
I hope there are new 3DS game announcements so E3 can focus on Switch.
Pikmin 3DS needs an explanation and a date, and tell us if it is indeed Pikmin 4. Pikmin 4 on Switch they can anmounce, don't wait gor E3 for that one.
Counting down the hours...
Good. More information on these two will help.
I'm not a Splatoon guy, but I do wanna hear about Arms. Which I'm assuming will be a mid to late May release to give MK8 some room.
I'd be surprised if there was no confirmed release date for ARMS, Splatoon 2 I think they'll still keep as Summer 2017
Not interested in Splatoon and only a passing interest in Arms (if I decide to get it likely to get it on sale if it ever does knowing 1st Party Nintendo titles). So will just wait for the summary article here on NL.
I'll wait and hope for more info from the E3 Direct Event, although I fear there may be limited new stuff and mostly just details of games announced at the Switch Event.
Finally. Indeed release dates would be awesome. And new games! When Segas countdown for Bayonetta info ends? Tomorrow? Interesting times.
I'm hope that along with news of Splatoon2 we get an inkling (haha) of what Nintendo's plans are for Virtual Console. Maybe plans to just import everything over from the Wii U and continue building the library from there. (I realize that's probably not easily possible, given different processor architectures and what not.)
Still, that would be a great "oh, and one more thing." Hint hint.
I'll watch it the next morning. Can't bother to keep myself awake until 2 AM. I'm looking forward to Splatoon 2. I hope there are some smaller announcements to keep people excited until E3.
An ARMS demo would be icing on the cake. I always get overly hyped for Nintendo Directs. I can only hope for a surprise or 10 =)
This makes 11pm UK, right?
Don't really want to watch the Splatoon 2 section cause I don't want any spoilers about maps and weapons and such, but it would be nice to get a closer look at ARMS.
Another great surprise would be the rumored supplemental computing device now that the official Xbox Scorpio Specs have been revealed.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Not sure why you would expect that, considering E3 is 2 months away. It would be nice, but I doubt it.
I'm looking forward to hearing more about ARMS. And finally getting a release date for Splatoon 2.
Hope on information regarding the hub of splatoon 2 and maybe release date. New games are always welcomed. Nice surprise anyway.
@Nintendoforlife I could understand the online part. After all Mario Kart is coming out 2 weeks after the direct. Are there even any online games right now excluding that limited splatoon test? Mario kart will be the first big title with online play either way.
Yes, so hyped. I really wanted to see more of Arms and Splatoon!
@sillygostly Thanks, it's around 7:30 here is Adelaide.
I'm going to guess what we're going to see:
Switch:
1 and 2) Obviously Arms and Splatoon 2 since they announced that.
3) Obscure indie game getting surprise pre e3 release.
3DS
1) Bye bye Box Boy (NA)
2) Ever Oasis
3) Pikmin
And that'll be all.
Keep your expectation in check, friends. Let the surprises roll.
I'm hoping for more information on both the single player and online components of ARMS and Splatoon as well as a release date for both. I also expect Nintendo to at least mention the virtual console. Hopefully there's also a game reveal or two for the Switch and some more details on those upcoming 3DS games
I will be watching. I want to know when Ever Oasis
I feel like ARMS is going to be one of those games where like, a year from now, we're all gonna be looking back going "aye remember arms lmao"
Unless this Direct is about to tear the roof off of things, that game looks marginally more interesting than 1 2 Switch.
MHXX...please. Only game I can think about right now, put it on the Switch. >.<
@gatorboi352 ARMS, to me, looks like Splatoon-- I thought Splatoon was gonna fail, yet here we are. You can't say anything for certain.
@Joeynator3000 My body is always ready for a new Monster Hunter
ARMS Nintendo Direct ?
Wow, hopefully more new characters, new Equipments and New Stages revealed.
...
...
3DS ?!
(GASP)
Please, Miitopia. Please Miitopia. Please, Miitopia...
Anyway, can someone help me to convert the Time Zone for West Indonesia Zone ?
It said 12 Apr 2017, 11pm UK time.
Great news. i just checked arms release date a few hours ago. i need a new game soon
@CrazedCavalier but even if that is the case (which I don't believe it is, despite similar art direction) we already have Splatoon. So why would something that "looks like Splatoon" equate to success simply because it looks like Splatoon?
@gatorboi352 I meant "looks crazy and out-there like Splatoon".
@gatorboi352 ARMS has been one of those games that when it was announced in january everyone thought ahead 6 months and said "ayyy, that's a real game? lmao"
Virtual console??
Just...YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!! Was really waiting for this!!
Pikmin?
Yes yes yesssss!!! Who think that obviously fake rumor post will become real? I'm talking about the one that said a Direct will happen on April.
@BLP_Software lol to the fact the WiiU is burning in hell.
I'm hoping that Nintendo takes the time in this Direct to actually address and offer solutions to save data back-ups. At least announce what is happening.
There'd better be some desaturated scowling white man cover based shooting action shown otherwise it's all over for the Switch.
I'm hoping we start to hear about the online service and VC before E3.
You can add friends and see what they are playing but that's it, so I'm excited for the features of the system to be fleshed out.
@Menchi187 True, he's right there probably will be some online talk.
My bad day just got a lot better woohoo
Got my fingers crossed for a couple of surprises as I have no interest in either of these games, but hopefully plenty of people will enjoy them.
Don't expect they burn their fireworks here. That's for E3.
As said, this is for Splatoon 2, ARMS, and some general info about, I guess, known titles.
Oh boy, that's gonna be a late nighter for me.
VC or Riot !
But seriously, Splatoon probably doesn't need the extra attention. It had the testfire and it isn't that different from the WiiU one.
Arms...whats there to talk about really ? I think the trailer showed off pretty much everything it got to offer. Its a souped up PunchOut.
So yeah, i hope that the "other" category has some more meat to offer. If not, we're in for yet another "Trailer show of things we already knew"
Fantastic news! I hope the Splatoon 2 August rumours are false.
Virtual Console and 3rd party games please. ARMS and Spla2oon aren't really my thing.
I'd also love a port of FE Echoes for Switch...
I am extremely excited
@Zach777
I have an feeling that you might be right. I feel like most of the Nintendo Direct are just reminder and show how those games work.
Yes! Let's get some release dates!
Also, let's get something straight. The Wii U was NOT a disappointment. The way Nintendo handled its life was a disappointment. The poor thing had a bad life and it's dead now. There is no need to dig it back up if all you're going to do is kick down again. Let it rest in peace.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE lol already did back in January lol $30 a year for online services
Release dates are a must, c'mon! On top of that, we need some more games and system features. Really hoping there's some good news to be had.
I also have church at 630 pm so I will have to follow on my phone and watch it later. I am up in the sound booth doing computers.
God I hope ARMS is going to be the next pro fighting game like Street Fighter and such. It definitely seems casual enough to pick up, but advanced enough that if mastered then its going to be one hell of a fighting game.
I'm hoping for some Virtual Console news
A direct seem to be more of an appropriate place to give details on that rather than e3
Who here thinks that they do GBA on new 3ds and remove region locking on 3ds as a parting gift.Along with pikmin 3ds ever oasis, and other like pokemon gen 4 remakes.Fire emblem warriors(n3ds,switch)
@Menchi187 fast is online
@patbacknitro18 That's the beauty of Arms. You can have fun despite getting your ass handed to you. The major thing that sucks about it is needing two sets of joycons to play local multiplayer, which is where it really shines.
not much 3ds and no wii u not interessted
Hopefully release dates for both those games, a new game announcement or 2, I think this could be an awesome time to announce virtual console with mother 3 released that day! (one can dream)
@Fooligan
Um... Cars 3 for Wii U will coming soon.
Wii U is still not dead.
I really hope there's much more to ARMS than we've seen so far because I'm just not convinced yet. Having said that, Splatoon turned into something pretty great, and I wasn't exactly enamored with that when I first saw it, so ARMS could still be pretty good. So let's hope Nintendo's really developed and fleshed the game out since first revealing it. If not, I'm not particularly interested.
Hoping for some news on the Virtual Console, though I'm thinking they will hold that off until the launch of the pay for online...
I was hoping for one of these before E3. Wish granted.
Sweet, hope there'll be a release date for Splatoon 2.
Voice chat info!
If Nintendo wanted me to watch this Direct, they should not have mentioned those two games.
You'd hope this means release dates for these two, information about the online service and following on from that some info about VC. There's usually a surprise as well.
If they can get me in any way interested in Arms that would be impressive.
@gatorboi352
I'm pretty sure people said the exact same thing about Splatoon. Yet look at where we are now...
The Neogaf thread about people predicting the faulure of Splatoon back in 2014 when it was announced is one of the best retrospective reads on that site.
Hmm not sure what's the point of this so close to e3.
This is a way to keep the hype going, good job Nintendo!
I wonder which other things will be mentioned, though.
I would be kinda surprised if Nintendo didn't announce the release dates for Arms and Splatoon 2. I think Nintendo will also talk about the Pikmin sidescroller and Ever Oasis on the 3DS. Nintendo announced those games last year, but they have since completely gone under the radar.
Hopefully, we get info on the VC and the Switch's online service as well.
Bayonetta please...wait that is tomorrow.
@marko to talk about things coming out before e3? That's the logical answer.
Wow. Could not be at a worse time for me. Guess I'll read the news after it happens.
Dammit it's for two games I'm not interested in
Thank god it's at decent time in the UK! If 11pm can be called decent. Hate it when they used to have it middle of the afternoon when 90% of people are working or at school and can't watch.
So no new announcements. Great.
Right on...
After Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2 and Arms are the next big games to drop. Makes sense to focus on these, and leave the big stuff for E3.
I am loving the multiplayer focus on Switch. Those 3 games are gonna provide alot of fun. Especially with mobile hotspot playing anywhere.
Bet we get some info on Fire Emblem Echoes as well.
Little help.
12 Apr 2017 11pm UK time = what date & time for West Indonesia Zone ?
@Yasume
Read again carefully !
@CrazedCavalier still not connecting the dots here on how that's going to equate to success for the title. And in all honesty, while Splatoon is a cult classic, I don't know how truly successful it was. Enough to warrant a sequel*, it seems.
*cancelled Wii U DLC content
@Cosmic-K9 Do you mean disappointing in terms of living up to its potential, or disappointing in the content it provided. I would have to disagree with you about the content, if that is your stance.
Hopefully there's plenty in the 'more' section
I'm thinking Arms will come in May, and Splatoon 2 in June. Let's see if I'm accurate. I always thought the first Splatoon release was perfect timing (in May, right before the summer), so I'd imagine Nintendo is going to try and shoot for a similar time-frame.
@westman98 that's all well and good, but that's like saying "people wrote off the iPhone and its lack of buttons when it was first announced, and so the BlackBerry Storm is going to do just as well".
Comparing the Splatoon story and applying to ARMS is an exercise in futility.
VC news and a teaser trailer for MK8 Deluxe DLC and I will be happy
Honestly I just want news for the Switch itself. Like I want more features in general, or at least info on when they might be coming.
@Anti-Matter UK is 0 and you guys are +7, so West Indonesia is seven hours in advance, so 6am your time. Pretty sure!
@MoonKnight7
ARMS on June 2017 ?
Well... it will not "Spring" anymore. It will become "Summer".
@Dakt Make sure the Hooligan Sisters get what they deserve!
@SpacemanSpiff
13 Apr 2017 6 am ?
Gosh...
It will be my time to go to work.
Looking forward to this. I didn't own a Wii U anymore by the time Splatoon was out so I never played that. Splatoon 2 seems pretty cool though so I can't wait to learn more about. ARMS could be interesting. Seems like it might a modern day Punch-Out and though I'd prefer the latter, another great, new IP wouldn't hurt. New is something sorely lacking in the industry these days.
@Yasume Why would there be new games announced when E3 is like 2 months away?
@gatorboi352
What I am saying is that its prwtty much impossible to judge Arms' success at this point.
Nintendo has had failed new IPs before, like Codename STEAM. They have also had hugely successful new IPs, like Splatoon. Writing Arms off now is kinda premature, don't you think?
The iPhone comparison is kinda weird. The iPhone took off the way it did once the App Store became mainstream years later. When it initially launched in 2007, sales were about as much as you would expect for a $500 phone...as in, not very high, which is why some people, like Microsoft's Steve Balmer, wrote it off early on.
4/12? I'm not waiting until December!
I've not been particularly enthusiastic about the Switch just yet, so hopefully this will help me out. If not, then maybe E3 will change my tune.
Glad to see there'll be ARMS talk. I don't get the appeal of that game, so more info will be useful. Maybe it's one of those games that I won't be able to appreciate unless I try it.
As for my Direct wishlist, more Ever Oasis info would be nice. Plus, new games would also be brilliant.
I'm not hyped at all, but I will watch it, of course.
suppose I'll watch, maybe they'll remember to add bots for Arms like they forgot with Tank Troopers (just kidding, why would they want to add even a modicum of replay value)
Excellent. Looking forward to it.
Predictions:
-ARMS
-Splatoon 2
-Fire Emblem Echoes
-Ever Oasis
-Pikmin 3DS
-Miitopia
-3DS 3rd party localizations
-Indie release dates
That's about it. E3 is soon, so I'm not expecting too much.
@westman98 I agree it's too early to tell. But my gut feeling is that I simply don't see signs pointing to much success based on what we know right now. Probably doesn't help that Nintendo is lumping it in with Splatoon 2 in the Direct either.
they need something, my local target had 3 switches on the shelf. and I almost have Zelda beat. time for more good games, little indie games don't count in my book.
Not too bothered about these, I'm hoping for some Gamecube virtual console news
@Anti-Matter Why don't you read it again instead? It's focused on ARMS, Splatoon 2 and broader information on other upcoming games. In other words, games that we already know about.
No new announcements.
@gatorboi352 Splatoon probably needs more than a few years under its belt to be considered classic.
Its also definitely not of the cult variety being one of the highest selling games on Wii U.
Please don't call Captain America 3 a cult classic due to it being a few years old and massively popular. Try Evil Dead instead or perhaps Earthbound if we want to stick to games.
Not sure I be able to watch it live. Still I am not expecting many surprises besides maybe VC and some of the rumored games eing announced. Still would like to see some 3rd party news.
@Yasume
Seriously ?!
It mentioned Switch and 3DS games as well.
ARMS and Splatoon 2 will be the Stars, but other Nintendo titles will be announced too.
No new announcements ?!
Oh, please....(pfffft)
@Anti-Matter
"I'm thinking Arms will come in May, and Splatoon 2 in June."
@SanderEvers
Regarding Splatoon 2, it could very well be, but I certainly hope not. I think the reason why the first one sold so well was because it became a perfect early summer game. Granted it has a name for itself now, but if I was Nintendo, I'd do everything I possibly could to try and re-create the same launch the first one had.
I'm hoping they'll hint at a game that's going to be announced at E3. Maybe Animal Crossing?
Yes! I want to know release dates and more information. I am definitely going to watch this. It's also at a reasonable time for me, which makes me even more excited.
This Direct date is very eerily close to a 4chan rumour that said it would be on the 13th. Interesting.
@Menchi187 I've played Bomberman online. Others have played Fast RMX online
I would love for ARMS to hit in may, but I doubt it. I'm predicting late June for ARMS, and August for Splatoon 2. I hope that with ARMS we will get a single player reveal, and a release date. Maybe a demo as well with like 2 or 3 characters.
Bit later than I expected but I knew we'd get something this month. Hoping this Direct means Splatoon 2 is coming in June at the latest.
Come ooooooooooooooooooooon Virtual Console! Surprise everyone by launching with with Mother 3!
I enjoyed Splatoon and I'm interested in learning more about ARMS. This Direct isn't exclusively about those two games though, and I'd like to see a new Fire Emblem Warriors character revealed.
Sounds good. A smaller direct for stuff that comes out before E3 or that they just don't want to show at the big event come June.
Hoping for some new ARMS characters.
Hoping for Ever Oasis news on the 3DS front!
I'm guessing this won't be too long, but giving some info on releases mainly. It also begs the question of what E3 will contain as well.
@Yasume Go on, smile....give your face a treat!
I don't expect surprises, more of a teaser direct before E3. Probably throw in a few things new but nothing that will be jaw dropping. I assume any giant bombs Nintendo has will be dropped at E3. But they need to do something pre E3 to keep the momentum going so here it is.
I suspect release date around E3 for ARMS
More info on Switch online functionality
4 new things in Splatoon2 shown off
Indie sizzle reel and 1 new unknown eshop game featured
3DS portion with Oasis, Pikmin, and FE echos plus something eshop related.
End on an expanded trailer for something we already know
Hopefully they have more to talk about than just two games. It's a little late to keep up the radio silence.
All I really want is a release date for Ever Oasis and a confirmation of Monster Hunter Stories coming west. Is that too much to ask?
@Dakt The public jury court system sucks anyways, just say you have an emergency. (a Nintendo emergency lol )
@RatKing64 I want Pokemon and MH confirm as coming to Switch so the machine becomes like the NES MINI in stores, a urban legend since there will be no stock.
People may be saying about the Switch that is has quite few games, but Nintendo are still kind of overselling the thing. as I see it.
It's already selling out, and they got these two high profile bastards and Mario Kart coming out soon. I'm sweating bullets here thinking about all the kids that will be unable to play these games because there aren't enough Switch units to go around.
Hopefully they all have a friend or a relative that managed to secure a system.
@Angelic_Lapras_King They'll never localize Mother 3. If they did, the whole gaming side of the internet would have to spam head explosion and "IT'S HAPPENING" GIF's.
I love Splatoon! I'm really looking forward to hearing more about Splatoon 2! I really do hope they bring back splat zones, as this is my favourite mode in ranked mode. ARMS looks interesting too. I think they will definitely reveal a release date for ARMS and maybe for Splatoon 2 as well.
And here is my realistic predictions for other news:
1) Pikmin sidescroller
2) Ever Oasis
3) Information about an upcoming system update for switch. (Local to local game updates, cloud saves etc).
4) In the end of the presentation, Nintendo will surprise us with a trailer for an unseen switch game. It won't show much gameplay but it will hype us up and then they will reveal more at E3
@Alikan wat. did you mean to reply to someone else?
Would it kill Nintendo to add AEST as well?
I seriously just want to finally know what's going on with Switch VC.
@Snow-Dust Yes. They will die if they post in AEST. They can't do it.
Excellent news, and since it's a few days away; I still have time to let my expectations balloon completely out of control. I'm going to hope for announcements of major third party support even though Nintendo hasn't seen that since SNES. I also have time to get angry that they supposedly aren't announcing any big new games less than two months before the BIG New Game Announcement Expo, and I'll also have a liiiitle bit more time to make judgements and bold predictions about ARMS based off four short videos released so far.
Virtual console and Switch My Nintendo rewards announcements please.
@WiltonRoots I'll ask my uncle if hell froze over. Until I get a positive response, don't hope for much
@PlywoodStick They're putting the effort to add online features to SNES games, then they can put effort into translating game too.....and let the Internet deal with the meltdown. ;P
A Pikmin 3DS date woule be nice. Also some sort of amiibo for the Pikmin/Olimar
Insert 'My body is Reggie' meme here
But seriously...I'm really happy about this.
Looks like I won't be able to catch this one live. I sleep during the afternoon.
Probably more neogeo games announced, plus ports of wii u games for the switchportal
I'll watch for the 3DS stuff.
I'm tired of hearing about the 3ds now... I think they should discontinue the 3ds and put out a Switch Mini as the new dedicated compact handheld. In HD, no less.
@gloom
Why would Ninty discontinue the 3ds, when it still sells 65 thousand units a week, many times its higher than that
Suddenly my week just became less meh. I can actually watch this one if I can leave work a bit early!
@NintySnesMan Because it's so old now. If they had a big AND a small Switch available then they could focus all attention and resources on one console. Yeah they still sell a ton daily, but they could also sell a new and improved (HD) console daily too.
OMG It's gonna be a Metroid announcement! I can tell by their use of the words "focused mainly on Arms and Splatoon 2!" I mean it's such an obvious hint yous guyz! And that must mean it's an FZero announcment too! And that means they're saving the really good stuff for E3...that means they're getting Persona 5 and KH3 and FFVII for 2017 HYPE!!!!
Am I doing it right?
Hype train, kids!!! I respect that they are very clearly saying "don't expext any crazy reveals" with the whole "focused mainly on Splatoon 2 and ARMS" bit. But all the same...I hope there is some kind of cool surprise. Maybe RPG Maker Fes for 3DS will get some screen time.
Great move by Nintendo!
We are getting confirmation of Mother 3, a New F-Zero, Metroid Prime HD trilogy, a teaser for Metroid Prime 4, Star Tropics Switch, Golden Sun Switch, Luigi's Mansion 3, Pokemon Stars, and VC for all Nintendo published games from NES through Wii available on the eshop immediately after the direct with all Wii and Wii U digital purchases transferring to your switch........and you can order customized carts of vc games for $34.99......OMG this is going to be the greatest day EVER!!!!!!!!
but I'm keeping my expectations in check............
@NEStalgia Yes, you're getting close. Don't forget to sprinkle in a Mother 3 localization, Retro Studio new IP, Smash Bros. 4 with all DLC port on NS, Xenoblade 2 coming this year outside Japan, Pikmin for 3DS and NS, and announcements for new Kid Icarus, Advance Wars, Golden Sun, Pokémon, Fire Emblem, and Star Fox. Maybe also a glimpse at a brand new Zelda to jerk off I mean hyperventilate to, and all the major 3rd parties going all in with NS, lead by Square Enix with the FF7 HD remake and Platinum with Bayonetta 3. Oh yeah, don't forget VC support for every Nintendo system except VB, and maybe even Sega Genesis/Mega Drive and Dreamcast support?
We will all be amazed and blown away
@SmaMan Dude there's not going to be a Virtual Console.
@gatorboi352 you referred to Splatoon as a cult classic when it is neither cult nor classic. It is popular and within the last console generation. Are the top 10 selling wii u titles also cult classics by this reckoning?
@Spiders How dare you crush our hopes and dreams. How dare you take our hype boners and curbstomp them with steel studded cleats.
Really hope there's an "available to download today" surprise announcement. Love when they do that...
I like Splatoon, and it was not my type of game. So I'm in for Splatoon 2, but Arms they have to sell me on. I hope they have more game announcements. I know E3 and all but I think they can throw in a quick reveal or surprise in there to build more hype.
I have zero interest in Splatoon or Arms. However, if they mention Animal Crossing, Ever Oasis, or Pokemon, count me in. That and I hope they release more info about how they're definitely gonna do cloud saves and other functional 2017 tech things. Because, I've had enough of them sticking their heads in the sand going "Lalalala, can't hear you" for the past several years or so. Haha. I'm looking forward to a successful E3 conference though this year. Hoping...
I'll be watching for the "and more".
I don't need to know any more about Splatoon 2 and Arms.
I don't really have any interest in ARMS, but Splatoon 2 should be cool! Hope they also briefly mention virtual console.
Hell yes! Interested in both these games, and excited for what they will be announce.
@gloom
Hey, don't say 3DS should be retired now !
I still wait for some 3DS games like Miitopia USA version, Ever Oasis, Yokai Watch 3, etc.
Expect the Unexpected.
@WiltonRoots You don't understand. Yasume is keeping the universe in balance. Where there is Light/Yang, there is Darkness/Yin. If he doesn't give a negative response in every last article, our dimension is going to collapse in on itself in a sudden, cataclysmic eruption of sugar, sparkles and glitter. Just imagine his burden. It is great, yet he takes it in stride, no matter how much ridicule he must suffer.
Wow, a lot less "Mother 3 or riot" than I expected. Is everybody over it or something?
BTW, as always for me no expectations so that I won't be disappointed, but... Mario Odyssey info maybe?
No "leaked" info from Emily Rogers and Laura Kate Dale?
gonna check out arms the weekend at insomnia
My predictions:
Arms (obviously)
Splatoon 2 (obviously)
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Pikmin sidecroller for 3DS
Ever Oasis
Virtual Console information
I'm surprised nobody has brought up breath of the wild dlc yet. They could show off the next update and do a live tree house play through during e3 right before it releases. It's so obvious.
@PlywoodStick What can I say, I can't help myself:)
@westman98 Forgot about Ever Oasis! I imagine a word about Culdcept is possible as well.
I really don't understand why people keep thinking there's going to be a Virtual Console. The NES Classic, ACA at launch, Seiken Densetsu Collection, Nintendo's announced monthly online-enhanced retro titles, and numerous statements when asked point blank make it pretty clear to me it's not happening - certainly not anything like how it was.
The issue is if they'll be discounts for the people who bought previous versions, but as they are likely coming back enhanced in some way, I don't see VC holdouts being very happy.
Really, it's just going to be irritating to wade throught all the grumbling when they do reveal their future plans for their back catalog, especially since 's likely more interesting than what we had.
Haven't seen anyone mention VC. 😕
Forget virtual console, just re-release the retro consoles and games in physical format with the original boxes, instruction manuals and maps.
I would love to hear something about Ever Oasis for 3DS.
@Spiders
Hey, I am waiting for Ever Oasis !
That game has been mentioned since E3 2016 ago.
Also, some localized 3DS games like Miitopia, Yokai Watch 3, etc.
And don't forget...... The Snack World 3DS/IOs by Level-5 on July 2017.
@Nintenerdguy
Haha! Me too! However, I will be St. Augustine with family during that time. I'm might to have an unexpected bathroom break at that time,lol.
@Spiders
...Maybe because Nintendo's already confirmed it at least as part of the upcoming online service?

EDIT: I mean, you seem to have heard the news judging by your comment, why are you denying its existence?
HOPING TO HEAR THE RELEASE OF NINTENDO SECRET WEAPON, WHICH IS METROID PRIME AND SUPER SMASH BROTHERS!!!
@Cosmic-K9 my Wii U and it's 300+ games would argue that's it's a disappointment. And I love my switch. I am playing Zelda on both.
I really hope for info on other games. Even just a sizzle reel would be nice. I will be watching at work even
Spla2oon was a missed opportunity.
Won't be able to watch live (oh boo!). Hoping for some 3DS game release dates!
@Don That'd be much easier, I'm sure.
I hope this direct really sells ARMs to the skeptics. I want it to succeed.
I'm not expecting much from this
I fully expect to see Arms and Splatoon 2
On the 3ds side it will most likely be FE echoes, bye bye box boy for NA, ever oasis and maybe one other game
@Spiders You demon. You devil. You sexy beast. NO WAIT I MEAN
@sillygostly Thank you sir, that's very handy.
Good! It's been incredibly quiet on the 3DS front.
YES.
On the other hand, I do not approve of the burning Wii U.
thumbs down
I'm really excited for the reveal of Halo 6, Half-Life 12, and Mario and Mike Wizowski at the Olympics Games. Going to be insane!
Finally a Nintendo Direct! It feels like it's been forever since the last one. I hope they convince me that I need to buy all these new games that are coming out, like they did with the Wii U (I own many Wii U games I only got after seeing their awesomeness on Nintendo Direct) and it kinda happened with the 3DS too (I have a lot of 3DS games). Nintendo Direct really have made me try games I otherwise wouldn't, and I just want to say it's a good thing.
Bring it Nintendo! I only own 2 games for my Switch!
I wasn't stoked about ARMS until I had a chance to play the demo at a pre-Swiitch party thing. It has a lot of potential, I'm interested in seeing how it's fleshed out. I'd also like to see what control schemes it has that are less....motion based. If I have to waggle my arms around to play it's a deal breaker for me, no matter how well the motion controls work; which they did work very well when I played it.
Nintendo sure do like keeping me up at night.
Release dates would be awesome, they are 2 of the four games I have already paid off and simply await the rattle of the letterbox as they plummet towards my welcome mat. Splatoon 2 and ARMS will flesh out the collection quite nicely, then all I need will be Mario, Dragon Quest and the inevitable Pikmin sat on my shelves and I'll be in gaming heaven.
@Priceless_Spork The aesthetic and general gameplay are reminiscent of the Wii installment, albeit with a bit more variety and freedom of movement.
meanwhile... the bayonetta countdown page went zero near half an hour ago and there's nothing there yet other than zeroes.
Any chance of new game announcements?
Any coincidence that the sega bayonetta hinted site has news to be revealed in 5-6 hours. a day before this direct?
Please be bayonetta 3 for switch
Lets hope for some strong first party games for both the 3DS and Switch. Maybe a localized boxboy collection? Or some Wii U ports?
@NoxAeturnus Not really. although spla2oon sounds and looks cool i can see why they havent gone for it.
Splatoon 2 is easily searchable both in the e-store, ebay, games sites and much more. a simple name change like that could actually harm sales so its understandable.
@Jamotello its showing 5 hours for me
Detective Pikachu western release? That weird Miitopia thing?
@ProjectCafe Jessica said it best. The Nintendo Life community has given the Wii U a nearly 100 Likes blessing to go burn in hell.
@Jamotello https://youtube.com/watch?v=UtmI--F8Zmo
I'm honestly not interested. Arms looks frustratingly vanilla, like a THQ bargain bin title from the Wii-era. Splatoon 2 is going to be just more Splatoon. Nothing to get too excited about.
I'm more interested in what surprise game they will announce. Although arms got my curiosity, I'm not that interested in it nor Splatoon.
@gamermole i like the way you think. b3 it should be. switch needs her badongkadonk.
@Sakura
I want Miitopia English version.
Miitopia is a Weird JRPG from Nintendo, but Fun and Hilarious.
I like something Funny, Silly, Quirky like that. Instant ROFL for me.
I hope there are some new Handsome fighters from ARMS. Springman is the only character that I want to use most.
@Anti-Matter i really hope to see little mac as an unlockable. this needs to happen.
keeping my expectations low. but excited noneless.
mostly on the 3DS stuff. sadly i don't have a Switch (or the money to get one).
keep the expectation low, save that excitement for E3 folks.
(I Still Wish for a new Main Animal Crossing... )
No, No. just wait for E3, it won't happen in this Direct.
@gamermole
Little Mac with Spring Arms + Masquerade ?
LOL
@Anti-Matter why not? ive seen more bizarre concepts. especially in nintendo games.
Give us a teaser for the new smasg
@PlywoodStick
That's sad.
Screw all you people!
is there any confirmation on whether the sega news is abyonetta related or just speculation?
@gamermole Why would anyone give Captain Falcon spring arms!? A single errant Falcon Punch can already light up an entire galaxy! Do they want the Falcon Punch to clothesline it's way through dimensions!?
boooo bayonetta 1 on pc not exactly what i was hoping for haha
@SmaMan Nintendo releasing thier older games != Virtual Console.
Think about it.
1) if they are releasing one game a month for the service, let's say for example Super Mario 1, then 2, then 3, etc. each month, none of those games are going to be available for sale until the month they are free is up, and they're not going to have Zelda 1, 2, 3, etc. for sale because they may be upcoming monthly titles.
2) Who else is going to be on board with this? Square Enix doesn't wamt to sell thier titles at 7.99 for the sole reason they were released on a SNES, demonstrated by SD Collection; SNK is doing fine releasing NEO GEO games multi-platform via Hamster and the ACA; Capcom is releasing a retro collection for 20 bucks bundled. SEGA has been doing 3D Classics.
Who else is there? Konami/Hudson/NEC? The model just doesn't appeal to publishers anymore.
3) Do you really think that copy of Bonk 3, Rondo of Blood, or Sin and Punishment you bought on Wii is going to be available on Switch in any fashion? You're out of your mind.
I'm sure they'll release THIER older games in that monthly model and maybe one or two will trickle out without online enhanced play, and hopefully people who bought them will be able to get a discount, but that's not a Virtual Console, is it?
Half the office is at a trade show. I'll be in the live chat with bells on!
They should announce another Switch shipment... can't find any here in the Great White North...
@Anti-Matter Miitopia certainly has me intrigued, but definitely needing an English version. I like weird, but I need a little bit of sense
Arms seems like a game made especially for you. Really hope you love it.
I highly doubt they'll announce anything new, but it'll be nice to know more about ARMS and Splatoon. They'll probably also show something on FE: Echoes, Ever Oasis and Pikmin, since they are the only 3DS titles which should come out in the near future, and maybe (just maybe) give some details on VC for Switch, or set a couple release dates for the generic "coming in 2017" indies we saw in the showcase a while ago. In any case, a Direct is never bad news - the more info and games Nintendo throws out there, the better.
Aww yeah baby, unleash your Switch beasts all over me, my body is ready! And honestly, who isn't hoping for some more Super Mario Odyssey at this point?
