HAMSTER's range of ACA Neo Geo downloads keeps growing on the Switch eShop, and this week we seem to be getting another good one - the European eShop lists Metal Slug X for a 5th October release.
We've already had three Metal Slug titles on the store to date, though X is considered to be pretty darn good - it's a rearranged version of Metal Slug 2 (fixing that game's drastic slowdown) and we loved it in our Wii Virtual Console review. Like all ACA titles we can expect various customisation options and online leaderboards, and likely a very solid emulation.
You can see a longplay video of the game below.
Let us know if you plan to pick this up on the Switch eShop.

EBGames recently had a 15% off sale here for eShop cards. I bought one for Jackbox Party 4, one for Golf Story, and one for what might have been Mario Bros. However that last one is changing to this. This one is my favourite Metal Slug and is the one I waited for so long.
Yeah, after Metal Slug 2 i probably gonna skip that one.
Now that's a Title that interests me.
2 has always been my favorite. 20-ish years ago I could beat that with 3 quarters. I held off on buying 2 because I was hoping for X. So, yay.
"Metal Slug...X!!!!"
The other shoe has finally dropped, so to speak. Can't wait to dig in on this!
I have the metal slug anathology for ps2 and the ps4 hd version so I have to pass on these. Unless switch gets a physical hd anathology cart!
The definitive edition of "Metal Slug 2", well worth the pick up if you're a fan of the series (and who isn't!?).
Glad I skipped out on 2.
I haven’t gotten any of the neo geo titles but I might pick this one up.
Glad I bought Metal Slug 2, now I can compare it to this much better version.
ZzzzZzzzZzzz... Same reaction as when it came to Steam. Rather get a book on my kindle before playing this for the 100th time.
One baby step closer to Baseball Stars Professional . . . . .
@Fake-E-Lee
Metal slug 3 is the best of the series
There goes all of my money.
@Fake-E-Lee
If you want a linear experience, Metal Slug X.
If you want branching pathways and more replay value, Metal Slug 3.
This is the release they should've done the first time around instead of Metal Slug 2, it baffles me why that version has even been a thing since the original release. Metal Slug X is basically the same exact game expect that it fixes the slowdown issues.
Yeah Yeah, already have this on my Vita and PSP.
It's basically the fixed/remixed version of Metal Slug 2 (since it had a lot of lag, even in the arcade version)
Where's the next Nintendo Arcade classic? please be Punch Out!!
Very nice! Hope we get VS SMB soon too though.
A fantastic entry in the series and one of my favorites. While it fixes the problems of part two, there are enough differences between the two that make them different games. Slug 2 should not be treated as if it didn't exist since some people prefer that one. Slug 2 is probably the easiest main Metal Slug game. Because they eliminated the slowdown, they were able to make Metal Slug X a little bit harder than 2, though still quite fair as arcade games go. It makes for a better choice for two-player gaming as well.
Another week and another dose of the wonderful retro powerhouse of the Neo-Geo. I love my Switch for these releases. Already bought a dozen or so of these arcade archives games by Hamster and Metal Slug X is another instant buy. Roll on Oct 5th.
Metal Slug 3 is considered the best in the series, but X is my favorite.
@Lloyd Then you're settling for the lesser experience. Metal Slug X has fixed all of Metal Slug 2's issues and offers some extras as well, so all in all, it's a far better experience than Metal Slug 2, and (more than) well worth a go for fans of the series.
@NEStalgia Still got some coins left in that wallet of yours?
Metal Slug 3 is indeed considered the best game by gamers, because of the wider variety and diversity in gameplay, but X comes in as a pretty decent second favorite, in large part due to it being the game that Metal Slug 2 actually could have been, so it's still worth playing if you like the series.
Here is a list that consists of votes made by actual gamers, instead of game sites.

@ThanosReXXX haha, my poor backlog I'm still working my way through Rayman which I skipped on WiiU! And Pokken I've played, like twice due to my renewed Splatoon addiction I swore I wouldn't let happen!
Metal Slug X? More like Metal Slug SOLD!
I never played Metal Slug until I tried 3 on Switch. I loved it and I’ve been waiting to try this one.
Hoping for Samurai Shodown II too as it came to othe consoles last week I think.
Woo-hoo! Though I'm losing track of how many platforms I've purchased these awesome Metal Slug titles for.
Somehow there haven't been any reports on the upcoming Neo Geo ports on Switch on this site, so there you go!
October 5 - Metal Slug X
October 12 - KoF '95
October 19 - Robo Army
October 26 - Mutation Nation
@Megal0maniac always wanted to get a peek on what's to come from Hamster- where'd you get that lineup?
@ThanosReXXX You are right, Metal Slug X is the better version of MS 2 , but the way of handeling this is way to customer unfriendly. Why didn´t they released MSX instead of 2, or make Metal Slug 2 a bit more playable. I don´t feel like supporting them at the moment.
@Lloyd Yeah, I've been wondering about that too. Perhaps they simply want to release the entire series, and there are differences between the two besides the things that were fixed in X, so that might be a good enough reason, but I can understand your point of view.
