Portal Knights, the Minecraft-meets-RPG-lite indie from Keen Games, is getting a physical retail release in North America from today, so you can head out to your usual bricks and mortar store and pick one up in a box for only $29.99.
The game is also getting a brand new content update. The Spring Festival - which will run until 5th March - is inspired by the coming Chinese New Year celebrations and brings with it some new themed items for those that complete in-game quests during the event. You might even unlock a brand new island if you're lucky...
You can check out the trailer for the Spring Festival below. In the meantime, you can also read our review of the base game from December 2017 where it earned a very respectable 8/10. Be sure to let us know if you're still playing Portal Knights, or whether these two bits of news will help bring you on board for the first time...

It's out physically in the UK/Europe as well as of last week
Yay... !
I can't wait for Physical release.
I played the Digital download first while waiting for the Physical release.
Hopefully, they fix the framerate drop on some crowded places.
@Anti-Matter What's so good about this game?
Fun game my kids love it, glad it's getting a physical release on the switch!
@IronMan28 Because it's SO CUTE and kiddie games are the best and if you don't like kiddie games or Nintendo then you need a lecture to show you how wrong you are! "Adult games" just aren't as good so it's not worth getting a PS4 unless you want to play The Sims, which is fine because of all of those six packs, ooh look at those polygons
I joke, but I won't be suprised if
@Anti-Matter 's reply is much different
@IronMan28 - the game is like Mincraft light with more adventure driven storytelling. Basic and not overwhelming to those who are Lego masters.
@Kimyonaakuma that was... brilliant.
When you get to be my age you'll know that the only misnomer bigger than "adult game" is "mature content."
@MartyFlanMJFan So did anybody read this headline and not automatically think of antimatter? Glad for him.
My second thought was, this means it will be on sale on PSN for $5 so I should pick it up there. 😆
@MartyFlanMJFan It was been brewing in my thoughts for a while and a Portal Knights article seemed appropriate.
@cyrus_zuo I was using phrases that he has used in the past, I doubt he's referring to a proper...ahem...."Adult Game". Or maybe he was and I just haven't found that game yet, but I doubt that we would see it on PS4/Switch for a long time. I guess people looking for that will have to settle for DOA Xtreme.
@rjejr Antimatter and Portal Knights are synonymous at this point, it's just a fact
How's the player base on Switch?
@Kimyonaakuma 10/10 masterpiece.
@IronMan28
Take a look my Screenshots.
I'm an Archer with Knight's Heavy Armor and Baseball Cap. Pretty neat, huh ?
Don't you think it's so Cute, Vivid & Colorful for all the places ?
Look at that Tropical Forest, Snow Forest, Crystal Island, Lunar Base, etc.
The blocky parts are just the ground and building materials, unlike Minecraft all the things are Blocky shapes.
I know this has nothing to do with the game but the thumbnail pic reminded me of Lost Winds for the Wii.
I really liked LW1&2...I wish they'd make sequel
@rjejr I was checking out the Switch physical Top 20, UK, on Monday and noticed it entered it at number 15... I instantly thought of our friend @Anti-Matter. Didn't realise it was getting a physical release over here, I've seen it knocking about the eShop charts a few times and again I always think of him and smile lol.
@1UP_MARIO Thanks
@Anti-Matter The game looks promising but I think that I'll buy DQ Builders instead. It looks a lot more polished and charming than Portal Knights, but at least Switch players have more options now for this genre
@Kimyonaakuma I've been playing DQB on the switch while watching my kids play portal knights on the ps4. I would agree with your assessment. DQB is a more polished experience imo. Not to say PK is bad but it's just more polished.
I just can’t get into the block building genre. Minecraft, this, and DQ Builders just aren’t my thing I guess.
@Anti-Matter I figured the word "cute" would be included in your description after @Kimyonaakuma replied to my comment. Lol, the screenshots are pretty cool.
@Paraka I've heard good things, I want something more than just Splatoon 2 that's good for me to play with my family, so this or that Minecraft-like Ark game might be good for us.
Looks pretty decent but like others have said, I would probably play Dragon Quest Builders instead. Simply because I am a Dragon Quest fan.
@MartyFlanMJFan @Kimyonaakuma Well there are certainly worse things to be known for. 😉
How's the building part compared to Minecraft? I wouldn't mind a better looking Minecraft, but I need mah trap building fix.
Cya
Raziel-chan
Is this just a minecraft clone or what?
Which game is better for just exploring and building, etc? My daughter tried DQB, but there were pages of pretentious dialogue she got sick of and sped through until she could walk around. She's not really into fighting and linear storylines that interfere with just exploring and building.
@redd214 It's good to hear an opinion from someone that's played or at least seen a decent amount of both, so thank you
Portal Knights is probably quite fun for a while but these games are quite repetitive so the extra polish is important after so many hours. DQ Builders also just looks better in general and there will be a sequel soon, so I might as well start the first game sooner rather than later.
It looks really cool but I think my daughter and I are both already sold on DQB. Probably going to get that after I finish Kingdom Battle.
@Kimyonaakuma yeah the only reason I played Portal Knights is becasue DQ Builders didn't come out before it.
Also the multiplayer feature in Portal Knights. It was fun seeing my friends' houses.
@Anti-Matter I picked it up today. We can play Portal Knights together, than beat each other up in Arms! 😀
@Bengals76
Yo !
Let's play again !
