The Switch eShop can be a dark and dreary place. The storefront is home to some absolute gems, but a multitude of rushed, rip-off and scam games can turn these beauties from a shining beacon to a needle in a haystack.
Here to prove that there are still some good games out there, our video producer Alex set out on the hunt for something special. To do so, he got his hands on five random eShop games (ones we didn't review on the site) and took them for a spin in the hope of finding a goodun. Did he manage it? Well, you'll just have to watch the above video to find out.
It's no spoiler to say that Alex experiences the full range of eShop quality on offer in this one, and he's ready to hand out a recommendation or a pass at the end of each test drive too. So, give it a watch (or check out the original longer stream) and see if it is still possible to stumble on an eShop gem.
If you have found an eShop delight that we at Nintendo Life are still yet to check out, perhaps it could be a good recommendation for our Games We Missed series. You can find the latest wave of reader picks below.
Have you ever accidentally discovered an eShop beauty before? Perhaps you've tried one of the same games as Alex. Let us know in the comments.

Indoor Kickball clearly deserves a 10/10 review. The full stream of that game was hilarious.
Frogsong actually looks good for real, I added that one to my wishlist.
Frogsong has been on my wishlist for a while, it looks pretty great.
I keep saying this but Juiced! is such an underrated gem. It's a super wacky 2d retro platformer that even has co-op.
I do this all the time, and I'm not even getting payed for it. Think a few of my better finds are on one of the hidden gems lists.
I'm hoping to grab the Collectors Edition of Nocturnal from Pix n Love.
It is up for pre order if anyone is interested.

I've ordered a few games from them before and can say they're a great company and their products are of high quality.
Nocturnal seems pretty decent. Saw this on the "What are you playing this weekend" that just passed. Great video
@PineappleLake LOL!!! I just watched a trailer vid, thought it looked awesome, then went to the eshop buy it and I saw I already did!! Thanks for the reminder/recommendation.
Redemption Reapers is an absolutely underrated gem of a game that I've yet to see in any physical store other than eShop. Super tight, strategic combat, beautiful animations, grim dark graphics, and a game with collective trauma that had me pulling for the characters and lamenting the end. This is a game that needs to be reevaluated on Nintendolife for review, cos the game is so much fun and deserves more accolades than what it got in the review. Prolly an objective 9/10, but I'd personally give it 10/10 cos it's rare that I binge play a game til its finished like I did with RR- it's that good.
Epic Chef, anyone?
I was hyped with Epic Chef two years ago.
It was a Mathematic battle during the cooking battle and it was my pleasure to think and count the best possibility of ingredients with their numbers to win the competition.
@PineappleLake haha reminds me of my Amiga 500 platformers like Super Frog and James Pond!
I've mentioned it before, but I recommend Dust and Neon for the awesome reload mechanic alone! Never seen a game quite like it, would love something similar from developer.
Man, that indoor kickball video got wild.
I was in tears with Alex's reaction to his first homerun. Surely worth a sticker for the NL discord channel
I really enjoyed this video! None of these games caught my eye, but I would totally watch more of these videos. I worried Alex was being too kind, so when he started lambasting the last game, I was thoroughly entertained.
@BodkinDQ
You can find a lot of games here .
It’s usually my go to shop for rare or difficult to find releases. They also do restocks. looks like it was a LRG release
Here it is

You guys covered Cobalt Core already?
@Azura I'll have to keep that site in mind. I'm content with my digital RR, but that could be useful down the line for other games. Thanks!
@BodkinDQ
No worries! Also your shout out on this game makes me want to try. I’ll definitely give it a shot . 🤩
@Azura Being as you like Fire Emblem, Redemption Reapers is made by the same team that made Fire Emblem Path of Radiance and is essentially a dark fantasy Fire Emblem in all but name with very similar gameplay mechanics i.e. vantage, canto, chain attacks similar to Engage, grid based combat with PP and EP, Bexp, etc, etc. Also had a lot of notable FE voice actors/actresses and OST made by FE composer. It's a lot of fun highly recommend!
Amazing ! Thank you ! I also heard it received some updates post launch.
Thanks for the info
Looking forward to watching this. I took a punt on Elliot Quest via the 3DS eShop about 7 years ago based on screenshots alone and it ended up being a top 5 game on the system for me.
