I was waiting for this to happen, considering all of the big devs skipping it this year. I don't really mind as long as Nintendo still has an annual Direct around June. And it was not like I'd ever be able to attend the event in person anyway.
I was originally going to vote for F -Zero but that game could get away with just a straight HD remaster and still be great. What I'd really like to see is a full remake of Skies of Arcardia, that would be legendary.
I'm about fifteen hours into this one and although I'm enjoying it I think I like the first game better. I prefer the first games setting to this ones more modern era. I mean the merchant has a business suit and talks like a cowboy, that's a bit too modern for my taste in fantasy.
I'm interested in the game because it looks like a decent take on the classic action RPG genre but releasing it four days after Tears of the Kingdom? Yeah... not the best timing.
I used to like MK but the violence has become so ridiculously over the top that it just seems stupid now. If they tone it down a bit then I might be interested.
Yep, pre-ordered it the the same day as the Direct. It doesn't arrive until March in my neck of the woods though so that's ust enough time to get through Kirby. Poor Octopath 2 will have to go on the backlog though.
I looked at all the images in the artbook and there really wasn't anything in there that I thought was spoiler material. Come to think if it now though, there was that picture of a wedge if cheese.... Oops! Sorry everyone, my bad.
It makes me wonder how many people will double dip and get the digital version because they just can't wait and then will pick up a physical copy sometime down the track. It also makes me wonder if Nintendo were expecting people to double dip and that influenced them to shadow drop the digital version.
Pretty damn tasty. Just from that list and not counting DLC and online I'll be getting:
Kirby
Metroid
Octopath
Advanced Wars
Baten Kaiton
Etrian Odyssey
Pikmin
Fantasy Life
And of course Zelda.
Not a bad start for 2023 and we've already gotten a new Fire Emblem.
I don't know why anyone would think that Nintendo wouldn't have anything after Zelda TotK. It was a silly rumour to begin with. Not as bad a the stupid Switch pro rumours that have been floating around for the last couple of years with zero evidence to back them up. There's no way Nintendo are done with Switch yet. I bet we see plenty of Switch support from Nintendo going into 2024.
Besides Fire Emblem Engage I'll be playing Wonderboy Anniversary Collection. My physical copy final arrived because I um, you know, pre-ordered it when they announced it, instead of getting the earlier version with less games. Yeah I thought since a better version was coming out, which they did anounce before the inferior version went on sale, I'd just pre-order the better version and wait. I mean that seemed like the sensible thing to do since all the information was available about the different versions.
So yeah anyway I'll probably be playing those.
@Tom-Massey I didn't buy it with the idea in mind that I would have exclusive content others wouldn't so it doesn't bother me if that content is available digitally. They can re-release another million copies for all I care, I just wanted a physically copy. I respect your reasons for the score but don't necessarily agree with it being scored in that way.
@Tom-Massey For the record when I said "you" l was referring to Wonderboy fans in general, not you personally. Yeah look, I see your point but that's just how these companies operate. I've missed out on pre - orders in the past and have had to buy on ebay or playasia or just miss out entirely. I think it comes down to consumers paying attention and deciding what risk they're willing to take when dealing with these "limited games" companies. It's not ideal but that's unfortunately how it is.
@Tom-Massey I guess it depends on how much of a Wonderboy fan you are and how serious you are about gaming. Being a big Wonderboy fan myself, I wanted the best version so for me it was without question the physical Anniversary Edition. Was it going to be expensive and a long wait? Yes but I knew all that because I took the time as a consumer to follow any news about the game and check out the situation for myself. There really wasn't anything ambiguous about it.
I'm sorry but you can't really be that big of a Wonderboy fan when a collection like this is announced and you don't take the time to check how and in what way it's being released.
For Gods sake, how can anyone be upset with there being various versions of this collection when all of the information regarding them was clearly put out before any versions were released.
Unbelievable!
We knew they were going to do this so why not just wait. I'm still waiting for my physical copy from SLG to arrive and I have no problem with that. As a big Wonderboy fan its worth the wait and cost to own the physical edition. Gamers should be educated enough to know the situation. I see no problem other then the game scoring an undeserved 5.
These two will make five Ys games on the Switch. Not too shabby. Plus two Fire Emblems, four Zeldas, four Xenoblades etc. Man, this is why I love the Switch.
I have and always will be physically only. For me, collecting video games comes down to being a long time enthusiast of gaming. Yes the physical games and consoles are just bits of plastic, but I enjoy the different types of cases, cartridges, box art, instruction manuals and special editions because they are all part of this hobby that I love so much. It's the same with the consoles and controllers. Even if I'm not using the older ones I still enjoy owning them. Same with video game magazines or books on gaming or figures or collectables. It's all part of the culture that I love. It's like some people who love books. Yeah you can read a digital version but some people enjoy the look, feel and smell of books. Same for me but with games. I know some people will get what I'm saying.
This looks good but doesn't really scream Zelda. The building isn't really that recognisable as being from BotW without the background. Maybe a shrine with a few recognisable enemies around it would be more iconic.
@YANDMAN Yeah, I was just trying to point out that pixal graphics stood out less on the older displays. I usually enable scan lines if available as it softens the hard edges and gives a smoother look. I'm a big fan of retro gaming I just prefer the the look of HD hand drawn 2D artwork.
I'll tell you want I don't want, pixal art. Had enough of that growing up. Pixalated graphics were because of technical limitations of the hardware back then. I get the nostalgia for it but back then those old TV's and monitors had a way of smoothing out the look of those graphics. Blown up on high definition TV's these day's it just looks aweful. There's a reason they add a scan line option for old games these days.
It's really great that they are still supporting this game with new themes. For the record though the last theme was Kirby and the forgotten Land so it would have been nice to see something else besides Kirby.
Not that I'm complaining or anything as I like Kirby but they could have also added some of Nintendo's other big releases this year like Splatoon 3 and Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
Here's hoping for a Fire Emblem Engage one in the near future.
I'll get it but haven't decided if I'll go for the Switch or PS5 version. Leaning towards PS5 because I have Remake and will pick up Rebirth and it makes sense to have all the FF7 games on the same system. Although this game does suit portable play well so there's that consideration. I'm getting it in any case. Played the PSP version but never finished it.
There's not a great deal of difference between the Japanese and European covers. I voted Europe as I'm quite nostalgic for the Castlevania and Mega Drive logo's.
The Pokemon Company must think they are invincible at this point. Not many companies could put out a game as clearly rushed as this and still sell ten million copies right off the bat.
I really loved Bravely Default II, I thought it was much better than both the 3DS games. It's quite an underrated game in my opinion. If they can keep that kind of quality up then I would definitely buy a new entry.
Well, I finally finished Xenoblade Chronicles 3 at around 122 hours so I will be diving into my backlog now. I'll probably start with Fire Emblem Three Hopes of which I only got a couple of hours into.
Cheaters are the reason I gave up on Splatoon 2 and haven't bothered to get Splatoon 3. When you can shoot round after round at an opponent that doesn't take damage and they can instantly kill you with one shot than you know something's not right.
I'm a massive fan of the first game so I'm excited for this one. I think I prefer however the medieval fantasy setting of the first game to this more modern setting. This game also seems to have more of a Live A Live vibe with all the different culteral settings. Think I prefer the more cohesive world setting of the original.
Already pre ordered. I usually only buy collectors editions of certain games that I'm a big fan of such as Zelda, Xenoblade, Fire Emblem and a few others.
I was disappointed with this direct but I have myself to blame for that, buying into the rumors about the zelda ports and I honestly think the Tears of the Kingdom showing was way too short, that's on Nintendo that one.

Pre-ordered both the OLED and the pro controller. I was going to get an OLED anyway and I'm a big Zelda fan so yeah...

God I hope it's fake. It looks pretty ugly to me. Nowhere near as nice as the Splatoon and Pokemon versions.

Fantastic game, it deserves the success and one of the best games to release this year. I played through to 3 of the 4 endings it was that good.
