Re: Soapbox: Nintendo's Game Awards No-Show Proves It Simply Doesn't Need Anyone Else

I still think Nintendo should make an effort to have at least one game to show for Nintendo fans ( and when I say Nintendo fans I mean you can still be a fan of other companies and a Nintendo fan ). I mean how hard can it be to make a video of one game.
It doesn't even need to be a new one. I'm sure people would have been happy to have another look at BotW2. Or are Nintendo afraid people will loose interest in the game if they get a second look. I doubt it.

The game looks brilliant and you can see that its from the Wonderboy devs. I remember reading about this game back in the 90's when gaming mags were still a thing and then hearing about it's revival a few years ago. Pretty crazy when you think about it but it's also what makes this game kind of special.
I'm waiting for my physical copy to arrive but I'm oh so tempted to download a digital copy to play now.

Re: Talking Point: How Many Hours Is A 'Short' Game For You?

I'm perfectly happy with the length of Metroid Dread. And the the length of it means there's a good chance that I'll be able to replay it. And that's the thing I really regret about modern games, some of them are just too long to go back and revisit. I'd love to be able to revisit some of the jrpgs I've played through but they're just too long for that. Honestly, one of my biggest gripes with a lot of rpgs is that they do seem to be padded out just for length sake.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (October 16th)

Well I just finished Metroid dread with 100% of items which took about fourteen and a half hours so now I'm wondering what to play next. I still need to finish Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade and Demons Souls so I might tackle those this weekend.
I'm also in the mood to revisit Animal Crossing after watching the direct too, so maybe a bit of that as well.

Personally I like the graphics. I'm an old school gamer from the early eightys and grew up with pixalated graphics but honestly I prefer the look of 2D games with HD graphics. Games like this, Monster Boy, Hollow Kinght, Dragons Trap, SoR 4 etc, look better to me then pixal art remakes like Alex Kidd for example. It's just my opinion though. And while they are not without their charm, I had my fill of pixalated graphics a long time ago.

@Grumblevolcano ah yes, that is true (damn memory), but thank god they are back. I still reckon we will get one more general direct before the year is out though. At least that's what I'm hoping for, and there were plenty of games not covered at E3 and I wouldn't be surprised to see something unannounced show up if there is one, but if not there's still plenty to look forward to.

@Ghost_of_Hasashi yeah and it's a pity because it's the old style of Phantasy Star and Shining Force I want to see.
I picked up Panzer Dragoon remake from Limited Run and am looking forward to the Zwei Remake later this year as Zwei is my favourite in the series. I'm just hoping SEGA do some new entries.
At least there's been a bit of a revival of the Wonderboy games in the last few years and a new Alex Kidd remake which looks okay, and of course SoR4. It's a start I guess.

SEGA have been talking about reviving dormant IPs for AGES now.
Seriously though, I really hope they start doing this instead of just talking about it. So many great IPs in their back catalogue. I need more Altered beast, Golden Axe, Panzer Dragoon, Phantasy Star, Shining force, NiGHTS, Skies of Arcadia etc. etc. I miss the old SEGA.

Re: Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX Lands In June, Along With An Awesome Signature Edition

Slain

I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand I love Alex Kidd in Miracle World and always wanted a remake. On the other hand I'm not really impressed by the new graphical style. I'm just not a fan of pixelated graphics. I know it's retro and nostalgic and people love it but I had my fill of it in the early days of gaming.
For new 2D games I prefer the look of HD artwork like the recent Dragon's Trap remake, Monster Boy, Hollow Knight, Streets of Rage 4 etc. Still, it's a nice package and I am tempted to get the physical.
I like option to switch to the original game too like you can in Dragon's Trap. I hope more developers choose to do this when making this style of remake.
