Re: Switch Accounts For Almost Half Of ToeJam & Earl: Back In The Groove's Early Sales

Shellcore

@Agramonte This. When Resident Evil 2, Kingdom Hearts 3, Division 2, Devil May Cry 5, Sekiro, Far Cry 5 etc are all vying for gamers time on other consoles in Q1 2019, it is hard to fit in a game like this. With the only traditionally "big" game on Switch being the Lego Movie 2 so far in 2019..well Toejam & Earl were always going to get a better share of that time on Switch.

Edit: Forgot about Apex Legends, Metro, ANTHEM (all big games in terms of consumer awareness)

Re: UK Charts: Smash Bros. Ultimate Returns To Top Ten But EA's Anthem Takes Top Prize

Shellcore

@Balta666 I would argue that Odyssey has service elements even if it isn't exclusively multiplayer. The content roadmap and MTX kind of support this. I agree with everything else you said. There is only so many people that can commit to each GaaS and MTX are abhorrent. Luckily ANTHEM's are bearable as they can be earned with in game currency and are cosmetic only (get your point on content is content). Still don't like them, but that is the price we pay for a game that will, hopefully, be supported for years to come.

Re: UK Charts: Smash Bros. Ultimate Returns To Top Ten But EA's Anthem Takes Top Prize

Shellcore

@WOLF13 I take your points on the AI and endgame. We can see that the focus is there to improve the endgame. I haven't heard anything on the AI. I am over 20 hours in now and haven't completed the story. Already more content than many standard games at the same price. Plenty of time to get a more substantial endgame sorted. It kind of reminds me of the structure of Phantasy Star Online..maybe why it resonates with me so much.

Re: UK Charts: Smash Bros. Ultimate Returns To Top Ten But EA's Anthem Takes Top Prize

Shellcore

@Balta666 An interesting viewpoint, but where do we draw the line? Does Monster Hunter World fall into the GaaS category being basically a looter-shooter with continual updates and MTX? Warframe is a great game and as we know is FTP. It is also pay to win with MTX for new frames, blueprints etc...Assassin's Creed Odyssey also has an extensive roadmap with a MTX store. This service aspect is affecting many of the biggest games today. To say they should all be FTP is nice, but not realistic IMO.

Re: UK Charts: Smash Bros. Ultimate Returns To Top Ten But EA's Anthem Takes Top Prize

I'm playing Anthem and I am genuinely enjoying myself. Loading screens are my only bug bear. Practically bug free now on PS4, MTX are cosmetic only and can all be earned in game. Put in nearly 20 hours so far and still nowhere near the end of the story - never mind the end game. There is a road map for the next 90 days for all to see and the game is being supported (Still..I hope) for years to come with no story elements being charged for. I think most of the hate is the anti-EA hate train. Which is fine, except for when those same people go on to play Apex Legends. Simply, Anthem is a fun game that doesn't do everything perfectly from Day 1 - but well worth the money and time. As Nintendo forumers love to say - gameplay is king and Anthem is spot on in that department.

Re: Japanese Poll Discovers That Vast Majority Of Viewers Were Pleased With The Nintendo Direct

Shellcore

I didn't feel the hype unfortunately. Mario Maker + and a reskin of an old Zelda game certainly didn't make my day. On a positive note, Senua coming to Switch was welcome news and the Starlink DLC looked interesting, as wasn't expecting that to grow much more.

Would like to see more output from Nintendo on fresh IP and/or big hitting releases from existing. FE kind of got close to that. Whiner and proud. Come at me bro!

Re: Feature: Just One More, Honest: The Unlikely Endurance Of amiibo

Shellcore

Nice collectable tat I guess. Off on a slight tangent but I'm not enjoying all the limited runs of games being marketed as collectible. Almost like fuelling an economy of scarcity and increasing fear of missing out on their customer base. It used to be, that people collected stuff that wasn't designed with the intention of being collected in the first place. Strange reading this back to myself and have no idea if this applies to Amiibo, but I wanted the write this...so there!

Re: Nintendo Is Not Considering A Switch Successor Or Price Cut At This Time, Says President

Shellcore

What a daft turn of phrase. For a company not be even considering a successor to the Switch means one of three things to me. The first being, their next console would not be part of the "Switch" line. I remember all their speak of pillars last gen (at the moment they are down to one). The only other implication means they are pulling out of the console business. The last being, they are lying. Console makers generally have their R&D working on the next console soon after (or before even) the release of their most up to date console. If Nintendo are planning to continue producing hardware, consideration at least should be paid to how this would look. Unless we are expecting them to go from draft to final product in a few short years....

Re: Dysmantle Is A Zelda, Stardew Valley And Dark Souls Mash-Up Coming To Switch This Year

Shellcore

@PorllM It does get said, and they are also wrong. I am completely behind equality and inclusion. Whilst I respect that there are still some ways to go, promoting one group of people at the expense of another doesn't seem the best way to go about it and only exacerbates the issue. Whilst I believe the poster who I commented on isn't "racist", I did think there was a better suggestion to push for what we both seem to be advocating. Therefore, I agree with you aside the asinine bit. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Dysmantle Is A Zelda, Stardew Valley And Dark Souls Mash-Up Coming To Switch This Year

Shellcore

@DEZn00ts2 Sorry TLDR. So, are you on team character creator for Dysmantle. I'd love to see it in these types of games as they can be quite time-intensive and having a personalised avatar can really hope bump the appeal.

Strangely, one of my personal favourite character creators was in Phantasy Star Online back on the Dreamcast. The customisation wasn't exactly great, but the badge you are randomly assigned at the end really added to that personalisation.

What game do you think has the best character creator?

Re: Nintendo Crushed It In The UK Over Christmas, Best-Selling Physical Publisher In December

Shellcore

@electrolite77 I agree that without seeing the breakdown, it is hard to understand the exact figure for purely game sales. This will become clear over the next couple of months (for the UK) as will be added to the charts.

However, I have tried to back up my thoughts on this with numerous sources, not cherry picking one game which was highlighted BECAUSE of it's high physical over digital split. I'm not interested in "winning" any arguments, but its hard to say that physical as a whole still outsells digital with the aforementioned trends, struggles on the highstreet etc..

It will be interesting to see what the figures for 2018 look like when released. I will go out on a limb and say that digital will outsell physical on a games only basis. I will also say the "twins" have a higher digital ratio than the Switch due to storage space and ecosystem. When those figures are released, I am ready to eat my words if I'm wrong.

Re: Nintendo Crushed It In The UK Over Christmas, Best-Selling Physical Publisher In December

Shellcore

@electrolite77 You are right about FIFA, but the trend is there. In 2017, Pushsquare reported that 45% of games sales were digital on Triple A releases with a proposed 7% increases YOY. If that holds true, then it makes the below sources much more viable. They include MTX which skews it, but we will see digital added to UK chart data just after Q1.

Re: Nintendo Crushed It In The UK Over Christmas, Best-Selling Physical Publisher In December

Shellcore

Strange way to look at it. Sure, Nintendo as a publisher seems to command the top number of overall units sold over the Christmas period, but game by game nothing was crushed by Smash. Don't disagree (I cant) with a fact based article. I do disagree with the adjectives used to describe said facts. Plus, as previously mentioned, UK is digital led and not accounted for in sales. That other article listing Smash as top seller in Amazon confirms that with many of the top spaces reserved for PSN points cards.

Re: Reggie: Third-Party Gaps In Switch Game Library Linked To Timing Of System Reveal

Shellcore

Not buying it Reggie. Enough time has passed. No devs dislike the Switch, of course not. It's just sometimes a bit too much extra work/money to get games running smoothly. End of really.

Edit: Nintendo owners are used to this but still return to buy systems for first party. As long as people have this understanding upon entering the Switch ecosystem, does it really matter?

Re: Here Are The Game Awards 2018 Winners For Nintendo Switch

Shellcore

I am a big Ni No Kuni fan, but the soundtrack to the second game shouldn't have even been on the list IMO. It was dreadful to the point where I turned the volume right down. The random spikes in volume and instrumentation, the lack of awareness in terms of what the player character is doing..I could go on. It was disappointing to say the least.

Re: Starlink: Battle For Atlas Starter Pack Sees Huge Price Drop Across UK And US

Shellcore

@BladedKnight The only thing it shares with No Man's Sky is the setting. No Man's Sky has uncountable planets made using procedural generation, base building, logging of countless flora and fauna and the gameplay is almost exclusively around exploration. Starlink is a story based open world with seven planets and a storyline. I'm not comparing quality in any way, but the games are really far removed in terms of objectives and content.
