Re: Nintendo Switch Will Have A "Lot More Announcements" on Third-Party Games Soon

Shellcore

@Kdaesung I think it's more about knowing at this point. Being so close to launch, and with details of games in the future being thin on the ground, I am starting to wonder whether I need a second console. Many are still looking forward to the release and I am happy about that. Third party companies are releasing big guns around the time Zelda releases, such as Horizon: Zero Dawn (aware its basically first party) so that isn't an issue. The problem arises when no big guns arrive on Nintendo's console as well. I want it to do well and I want to buy it. If people don't buy it and the sales don't come in, then third parties wont make games for it...and we know what happens then.

@DragonEleven "I've recently noticed that the lack of games at launch is being used by (consumers) to (raise concerns about) the console in general... I'd usually just laugh that sort of thing off, but it is actually starting to put people off getting the Switch.
The (potential customers) are basically just telling them that everyone is saying that the Switch is a (potentially) terrible console because of the limited launch line-up (which is (reasonable) on a number of levels)... but the problem is that people then go away to check if what they're saying is true, but only search for articles about the line-up... so they see all the articles expressing concern for the Switch due to the line-up, but not the ones praising the console and the games.

Fixed it for you : )

Re: Project CARS 2 Creative Director Loves Nintendo Switch, But Don't Expect A Port

Shellcore

I've preordered the Switch. I skipped Wii U as I thought I'd see how it went before I dived in. Missed out on some good first party games, but ultimately I'm glad I did. The Switch looks great and am interested in catching up with games I missed out on regarding the ports of Mario Kart and Splatoon 2 (sorry, not buying it being a fully fledged sequel). However, constant "X game isn't coming to Switch" articles are starting to make me feel like I did with the Wii U... I believe a couple of other commenters have already stated that these types of articles don't help, and I agree. For the potential userbase to be positive, we need a news source and community hub that can also be positive. What games are coming? What about the UI/Trophies etc... I am going to Birmingham this weekend for a hands on session with the Switch. I want to look forward to it, but it just doesn't feel right at the moment.

Re: Talking Point: Important Features Yet to be Revealed for the Nintendo Switch

@GravyThief I don't understand. All those things you mentioned could be displayed as achievements. I get that some can be rather unimaginative and slightly irritating. However, for those that enjoy them, they can greatly enhance the experience of playing a game and enable them to get the most from their product. Sounds ridiculous right? However, not sure I would have hunted down all the royal arms in FFXV without the allure of a platinum trophy off the back of it. Saves me money in the long run, by suggesting additional challenges rather than relying on the player to consistently being creative to get the most from their purchases. By the way - I suck at Minecraft - which hints at my creativity levels : )

@rallydefault I guess everyone has their own perception of value, however, they will have a specialised category team looking at pricing trends and how many sales could be generated at different price points. I refuse to believe what we are guessing is the RRP would be the optimum point of margin vs unit sales. From a business perspective, it doesn't make sense. From a "I would buy it" perspective, for you it completely does. I wouldn't buy it at $40, because for me it doesn't represent good value. However, at $20, I certainly would. Which price point would make them then most money? Well, that's what they pay many people to find out.

Re: Reggie on Wii U Support Going Forward

Shellcore

@fluggy I'm also interested in this. I watched Gamespots interview with Reggie last night and he recognises this is an issue. He mentions the new account system on the Switch. Was unclear whether this would benefit people who are already in the Nintendo ecosystem, or just those going forward. I would place my money on the latter.

Re: Super Bomberman R's Retail Price Has Finally Been Confirmed

@paul6891 If you truly don't know, consider watching the Switch presentation again and ask whether this is the turnaround we hoped for with Nintendo. People are clinging to any game news they can get due to the current absence of a convincing line up. One of the few, a throwback Bomberman title is asking for 50 bones, when it would probably be lucky to fetch £8.99 in a PSN sale.

This is why people are upset. No hate on Nintendo or the developers. I, personally, just want the Switch to be the console it has the potential to be.

Re: Here's How Dragon Quest Heroes II On Switch Shapes Up Against The PS4 Version

Shellcore

It doesn't look good. On the other hand, Dragon's Quest Heroes uses a lot of power to generate all the enemies on screen. In a more traditional action RPG (not musou), I could see the graphics having an easier time keeping up. Nothing wrong with the Switch being outperformed on graphics, as long as it doesn't turn (didn't want to write switch) off third party developers making games for the system.
