I voted can't decide because I have never played a single Pokémon game! I am afraid I will get sucked into them and lose 100s of hours of my life I don't have to spare!
I'm still one of the bitter people that picked up NES remix 1 as a rewards thingy, and then they announce the disc package is coming to the US. I always prefer discs, so I'll be bitter until next year when remix 2 is hopefully a rewards offer!
However, I can't deny that I enjoyed Remix 1. A lot of fun, and I still couldn't be that last balloon fight challenge!
If it wasn't for the odd take on battle mode this time around, I think MK8 would be dominating even more than it is. I've never played double dash, so I hope it comes to Wii U VC sooner rather than later.
Game of the year for me is Bayonetta 2. Indy/eshop is Scram Kitty. As good as shovel knight was, I just thought scram kitty was just so unique that it deserved more credit than it got. This was a great year for eshop tho, and albeit light for wii u, there were a lot of quality games this year.
Will likely end the promo with 4500 pts. I guess just like with amiibo, I am part of the problem as I think Nintendos digital angle could use some work yet I am still throwing money at it.
So Nintendo settling with Phillips meant they thought Phillips was right or did it mean that they thought settling was more economically viable than fighting in court? I'd say it was the latter. Just reading the original Phillips case sounded like they were going after M$ and Sony more than Nintendo.
Few gamestops nearby have Little Mac as in stock, so will be going out to check soon,. I have given up hope on getting Pit, and though I am not attached to Captain Falcon much, I really liked his Amiibo and was hoping to pick it up.
I tend to avoid 3DS eshop just as I don't play it as much, so I hope the 1001 spikes is on wii u discounted as well.
picking up the Wii U megamans a I have some money ready to spend for the NDD promotion ends. I wonder if ending the sale Monday means we get a big week of Christmas sale for NA next week. I sure hope so!
I picked this one up and tend to agree with the review. I think the marvel version is the superior one tho this one isn't bad. Will be better able to judge as I get deeper into it and eventually 100% this one (as I did marvel). Definitly a fun game for my daughter and I to play, and I too am bummed at the lack of DLC.
Not only are they not the same but I'd argue that amiibo would be vastly more successful if they took the sky landers route in their own core game (with the lure being bonus stuff in others). I am baffled by how hard they are to find considering how little they do. I am wondering if a lot of them are being given as gifts with no real knowledge of what they do in game by the purchaser.
I stalled on my wave 2 preorder: big mistake. Don't see them anywhere tho it seems even the stores aren't sure of the release date. Best buy thinks anything from yesterday to Friday as the release date it seems. I am not too worried about picking up wave 2 figures just yet, but, as with all things amiibo, Nintendo doesn't leave me full of good vibes.
More concerned fox is coming out "soon" and there is zero hype for it. Granted, smash has been a hype vortex for awhile now, so perhaps now it is time to rev up the next hype train.
Well this forces me to decide if I am going to get them all or just the ones I like... Just the ones I like it is! However I better grab fox ASAP, I am not seeing him much at all lately.
I think everyone expected these 3 to be limited, so not a shock. Would be surprised if it is true already, though, as we are not even in the second wave yet!
@JaxonH Right on on a lot of points, but must you feed the trolls?
I think the sooner people accept that nintendo's platform, whatever gen it will be going forward, is going to be "that other console" that people get to play along with either their PC, PS5, or xboxX, the better. Nintendo could put out the next console that is a total clone of the PS5 or whatever it is called, right down to the architecture and everything, and 3rd parties are still not going to touch it. Either because of bad blood with nintendo, or using past generations as an excuse. 3rd party support for nintedo consoles is largely a dead issue, so I can just hope, like most do I am sure, that nintedo does well enough to keep chugging along and putting out high quality games. Now this doesn't mean i think they are perfect, but I am generally fine with how they do most things.
@Gorlokk there was a pretty deep price cut, and (much like after the wii u's first year) there are sufficient good games coming out/already out for the console that likely made people take the leap. I know that is why i finally picked up a ps4
research shouldnt be defined as installing an app voluntarily that you tell it what you purchased. that makes it sound way too scientific.
that said i don't expect the wii u to set the world on fire ever. 10-15 years from now people will praise it, like they do the gamecube nowadays, when it becomes "cool" to appreciate the console. I'm pretty confident nintendo will still be around then. Sony and microsoft will as well, but with consoles? who knows...
Not sure if others made this point already but remember Nintendo has to fight for shelf space in these stores, and based on the wii I and late wii track records, they don't get much space. When I got my preorder package at best buy (went early as my gut said they would get wiped out) they only had a few stock on the shelf and the amiibo a were already heavily dented.
Point is, there are retail realities that are beyond Nintendos control. You can bet the exclusive amiibos are a retail strat, just as the adapter shortages
Smash pre-ordered at Best Buy, as well as last minute Kirby, Samus, and Peach Amiibos (Link sold out...). Eagerly awaiting my "come get it!" email. Should have some 6 player action tonight, so will be interesting.
@Samurai_Goroh That is my thought as well. Nintendo needs to fight for shelf space in these stores. Try to find Wii U at a gamestop? Always back of the store. This probably nets them good positioning of the Amiibos near skylander and infinity products. I don't think less of Nintendo if this is their approach. It is the American market, and if the Wii U and 3DS should have taught them anything, it is they HAVE to play the market.
I'd give the Wii U a B for me. I just don't have enough time to play all the games I want just on the Wii U, so to me it without a doubt meets my needs, and has some great games, and more on the way.
The thing is, PS4 and Xbone also have some great games on the way, and I am picking up a PS4 to play some of them (and maybe an Xbone in a few years too). I always think it's sad to see people bashing other systems. The last thing anyone should want is to see other systems fail, or even worse, end and reduce competition. I can expect this mindset from kids who don't know any better, but when I see "adults" hoping for the failure of systems I just wonder what is wrong with people. Big difference between hoping for failure and wanting to see improvement, mind you.
Well it makes a lot more sense if they are gendered, because if there is only one toadette, then going off on an adventure and losing her is bound to get you in hot water with the rest of the toads! "Find her, or become a pariah/life sentence in toad jail/etc"
I did order this as I actually have the possibility to have 6 man smash at my house pretty often, so it seemed like a good investment (as renter has some GCN controllers in garage), plus it looks cool!
That said I just do not believe this will only work with smash, and that's it forever and ever. My hope is we get GCN games on VC and this will work with it. Granted, we still need n64 games...
Do you guys go to stores (Best Buy, Target, Gamestop) all that often? Wii U stuff is usuallly crammed in a corner at Gamestop, and on an "edge" aisle at best buy and target. Nintendo products are shoved to the sidelines.
my guess is there are some agreements linked to this that pushes nintendo games into a little bit more visible areas. Perhaps i've got my tinfoil hat on now, but it would not surprise me if this has something to do with the marketing we are always wanting to see from nintendo. that is, the behind the scenes and "visibility" stuff. this of course is based on my belief that sony and M$ give retailers bonuses for prominantly displaying their items, which may be way off.
Too bad about Bayonetta 2. I'd recommend this to anyone, even fans outside the genre (just play on easy!). I think of it as one of those games that could get people into the genre that normally don't try it.
@JaxonH Have all those I took the chance with Lego Batman 3. That $30 will pay for itself before the end of November, maybe even twice over!
As to the subject, I dont get why people hate on Gamestop so much. My view is all corporations, even ones we like (ala Nintendo) have some shady practices or do things we dont care for. The ones I truely despise I simply don't buy things from them, and the ones i kinda/sorta dislike, I avoid as much as possible. I dont bear any ill will towards game stop, I got my GC-compatible Wii from them when they were becoming hard to find and they were really helpful in finding me a store that still had one.
I will say that linking Shulk amiibo exclusivity to the fact XC was exclusive doesnt add up. Is XC for the 3DS, or XCX for Wii U going to be exclusive as well? If there is a contract, why does it have such odd terms? Maybe Nintendo is doing some marketing (finally) and working out deals with Gamestop to promote their system.
Besides we all know that the only company run by Satan is EA!
@JaxonH preach on! No idea why that $30 deal hasn't got more press than it already has. I didn't realize it counted for amiibos too, thanks for the tip!
I'm debating what game to get this week to get in on the deal. Probably lego batman 3, but not 100% sold on it yet.
The one deal you didn't mention that Best Buy has (at least here in the US) is buying a game for $39.99 and joining their gamer's club unlocked for $30 (which usually runs $100). That is a 2 year membership that gives you 20% off all new games + a bunch of other nice stuff if you trade in or buy used games a lot.
I honestly dont get alternate mario and peach costumes, but for the amount of value in this DLC for the cost, I guess I can't be too mad.
I am starting to look at Mario Kart 8 as Mario Kart Infinity. Who knows how many more DLC packs we could get if these sell well. This could be something they do every 6 months for another year or 3
@YANDMAN I'm with you in that I'd like to see a modern shooting gallery type game, or even some ports from the arcade (aka operation wolf and the like). I'm not too sure the old school NES shooting games will garner much interest beyond novelty.
@sinalefa Thanks for the tip on the survey, I had one waiting for me as well.
I am also embarrassed about my response: -how much do you know: this is really an odd response because I think I know all the info that has been given, and, in my book, that isn't much! -likely to buy - extremely. I don't know much at all about them, but damn if I'm not buying them...
and holy crap I clicked 10 amiibos that I plan to buy... yup, I'm part of the problem, and that problem is amiibos are a fuzzy concept (meaning the core, to me, a game focused around them, doesn't exist yet)(and I mean a sandbox game not SSB) and they are coming out in a few weeks and I am throwing money at them. Throw me in the fanboy category, I'll wear it with pride.
@Volke93 I have thought the same thing. My hope is that it follows what is the usual mario theme of slowly ramping up difficulty and then giving you a final few boards that make you want to pull your hair out. I think the value will be in maxing out score/items on each board and exploration more than difficulty.

Re: Talking Point: The amiibo Range Grows, Yet Key Questions Remain

It would be a much easier sell if there was an amiibo focused game, and all the other stuff was just a bonus.
