It's Nintendo Download time, North America, and this week is a bumper offering — we have major retail releases and exclusives on Wii U and 3DS, some intriguing new download-only titles, demos, discounts and, last but not least, Mario Kart 8 DLC. Lots to choose from, so let's get to the details.
Missed the Nintendo Download Update in Europe? That was silly! Never mind, the details are still waiting for you right here.
Wii U eShop
Tengami (Nyamyam, $9.99) — A console exclusive on Wii U following its iOS release, this is a rather relaxing yet immersive experience that creates a Japanese tale through a virtual pop-up book; you turn pages while folding and manipulating paper to solve puzzles, while also boasting a unique art style and music by David Wise. We gave this a strong recommendation in our Tengami review.
A World of Keflings (NinjaBee, $9.99) — The sequel to an XBL game, this is a city-building adventure in which you play as your Mii to help quirky locals to develop and improve the land. This is certainly targeting whimsy and charm, and we'll see whether it works on us in our review.
Xavier (Prison Lab, $4.99) — This is a platformer in which you play as a teenage cave man, tackling dinosaurs while running and jumping through stages. It offers some customisation options, too, but we'll see whether it's a bit long in the tooth in our review.
Wii U Virtual Console
Mario Kart: Super Circuit (Nintendo, $7.99) — The first portable Mario Kart title, previously available to 3DS ambassadors, now arrives as another Game Boy Advance release on Wii U. This one can be divisive among fans, but aims to provide its own take on the style of the original Super Mario Kart, even offering the tracks from that 16-bit classic. We'll get working on a review, but in the meantime you can check out our 3DS ambassador Mario Kart: Super Circuit review.
Wii U Retail Download
Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric (SEGA, $49.99) — The Wii U entry in the spin-offs exclusive Nintendo releases, this was developed by Big Red Button and places the emphasis on team work and exploration; the storyline will tie in with the animated series that has already begun to air. Now that it's out in the world — we didn't receive an advance copy, and we're not the only ones — we'll take a look and see how this one fares.
LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham (WB Games, $49.99) — The LEGO series remains hugely popular while the Batman series, arguably, represents the best of the franchise. Thies third entry heads into outer space and serves up a mind-boggling number of characters, promising one of the most polished and expansive experiences we've seen in the blocky world. We'll work on a review but, in the meantime, you can see what we thought in our LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham preview.
Wii U Temporary Discounts
BIT.TRIP Presents: Runner 2 Future Legend of Rhythm Alien (Choice Provisions, $4.99 from 14th November to 24th November, normally $14.99)
Abyss (EnjoyUp Games, $1.49 until 4th December, normally $1.99)
Chubbins (Dahku Creations, $2.99 until 20th November, normally $3.99)
Wii U DLC
Mario Kart 8 DLC Pack 1 (Nintendo, $7.99 or $11.99 for the DLC bundle) — Not actually listed in Nintendo's press release, this is the first of two DLC packs coming to Nintendo's iconic racing series. It introduces new franchises in exciting new tracks, vehicles and Link as a character; we spoke highly of the content on offer in our The Legend of Zelda x Mario Kart 8 preview.
Wii U Demo
Flowerworks HD: Follie's Adventure (Nocturnal, free)
3DS eShop
Picross e5 (Jupiter, $5.99) — This franchise is well-established as it goes into its 5th entry, with this addition including the Micross, Mega Picross and 20×15 Picross seen previously; a Navigation feature is cited as something new this time around. We've always enjoyed these titles, and will give this one a whirl for review.
Castle Conqueror Defender (CIRCLE Entertainment, $4.99) — The latest in CIRCLE's long running stategy / tower defence series, this promises 10 campaigns of 5 levels each, along with Glory and Crusader modes. We'll defend the land and bring you a review soon.
I've Got To Run: Complete Edition (4 Corner Games, $4.99) — This new entry on 3DS expands upon the Wii U original, introducing new environments, characters and modes to the endless runner, along with revamped camera angles. Our review will go live later today.
Scarygirl Illustration Kit (Square One Games Inc., $5.99) — This has missed the Halloween bandwagon, but nevertheless offers vector drawing and illustration tools to children, even including the ability to make and export mp4 movies. We'll see whether it's spookily good in our review.
3DS Virtual Console
Pokémon Trading Card Game (Nintendo, $5.99) — Originally released on the Game Boy Color and gives fans of the iconic franchise an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the Trading Card Game. It has more than 200 cards from the original decks and more besides, and is an opportunity to learn how the TCG actually works; you can see what we thought in our Pokémon Trading Card Game review.
3DS Retail Downloads
Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal (SEGA, $39.99) — This is more of a conventional 2D Sonic title, albeit with different characters — including newcomer Sticks — having unique abilities to explore each level. Developed by Sanzaru Games, the demo for this was rather decent; we'll see how the full game stacks up in a review.
LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham (WB Games, $29.99) — It's often the portable version of LEGO games that sells best on Nintendo hardware, though this entry may just provide an experience closer to matching its HD brethren; rather like LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins this forgoes the linear approach to offer an open world experience on the 3DS. We'll check it our for review.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Danger of the Ooze (Activision, $TBC) — Developed by WayForward and tapping into the TV show once again, this aims to throw some Metroidvania-style exploration into the mix. It sounds promising, and will hopefully be superior to its mediocre predecessor.
Tetris Ultimate (Ubisoft, $19.99) — This entry has unique modes on the 3DS not available on home consoles, with an impressive array or modes and options and a budget price. We'll let you know what we think.
Winx Club: Saving Alfea (Little Orbit, $29.99)
3DS eShop Temporary Discounts
European Conqueror 3D (CIRCLE Entertainment, $2.79 until 27th November, normally $3.99)
Darts Up 3D (EnjoyUp Games, $0.99 until 4th December, normally $2.99)
Soccer Up 3D (EnjoyUp Games, $1.99 until 4th December, normally $6.99)

European Conqueror 3D (CIRCLE Entertainment, free)

Ooo! More Picross, hope that reaches the UK soon
MK8 DLC for me, finger crossed for DKC in NA next week 😊
MK8 DLC already downloaded. The rest I'm fine with skipping. Hoping for some VC treats to spend my eShop credits on soon!
pokemon tcg for me this week
Giving my vote to Tengami. But of course I am also getting the MK8 DLC that I paid months ago.
And Runner 2 at that price is an absolute steal.
MK8 DLC preordered and playable.....and still saving my pennies 4 Smash..
@RedDevilAde
Not checked out today's Euro releases, I'm guessing?
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2014/11/nintendo_download_13th_november_europe
Possibly the best week of the year so far. Granted, the year's almost over, but still.
Just Mario Kart 8 DLC for me!
once my hardrive cord gets fix i planning pick up Mario Kart: Super Cricult, Mario Kart 8 DLC Pack 1 and Super Smash Bros Wii U on Christmas
however (at lest for now) nothing for me this week due to already got games this month
anyone else feel like the 3DS hasn't gotten anything really lately, minus a game here and there on VC.
Where is donkey kong?
Already have the MK8 DLC downloaded, but that'll be it for me. I was really hoping Duck Hunt would be out this week... looking forward to that way more than I should be...
Pre-ordered the DLC so I'll download it when I get back today.
Also, if you people don't get Runner 2 for five dollars WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
DLC, baby!
@RedDevilAde It's out in the UK today
Where is Bubble Bobble?
Time for some Pokey Mans card batoru.
Pokémon Trading Card, Picross e5, Mario Kart 8 DLC and Pokémon Puzzle League from last week's update.
got the mario kart 8 DLC before I left for work. Might pick up Runner 2 to take advantage of the sale price.
I already have Tetris: Axis, but I'm intrigued by the new online and Streetpass functionality of Tetris Ultimate.
Oooh Picross, gimme gimme gimme!
And I preorder Mario Kart DLC so...
Sucks for anyone who bought Tetris Ultimate on release day, it didnt turn 19.99 till today.
I kept restarting Mario Kart this morning until the update showed up (around 6 CST in the US). Played and beat the first cup (50cc) before work, just to check out the tracks and Tanooki Mario using the Blue Falcon just for fun. It's all amazing of course. The update, download and installs were painless and didn't take much time at all; combined - under 15 minutes easily.
I may check out Keflings. I had fun with the 360 version, and I'm intrigued by the Halloween themed content. Super Circuit - I'll download it only if they didn't neuter the multiplayer again (in other words, it's probably a nope).
Still waiting for the eShop to be made available to Brazilian players. This is so frustrating… If the online news community that has access to Nintendo figureheads could get to the bottom of this, it'd be truly appreciated.
Kinda sad to see no Golden Sun 2 on there.
I was thinking of getting Runner 2 for a little while, glad it got a sale so I can save some money and finally get this game.
Nothing for me this week. That sucks that only $10 separates the Wii U and 3DS versions of Sonic Boom. 3DS version should have been $30 instead of $40.
Pre-ordered the MK8 DLC a while back. Will get Tetris Ultimate if they fix the price on the Canadian eShop like they did on the US eShop. $30 is too much.
So many people are going to download* Mario Kart Super Circuit* instead of playing the MK8 DLC. Nice choice Nintendo.
I'm sure the words MK8 DLC is going to be said a lot, so....
Buy Abyss, for $1.50 that's a great price.
Looking forward to Pokemon TCG, but man $6 for a Game Boy game? They sure are acting like Pokemon is a popular franchise or something, lol.
And finally, I hope Xavier on WiiU eshop is good. I like the premise, but then again anything with dinosaurs at least has my attention!
Runner 2 is still at $14.99, I just checked, wanted to buy it.
Next can we get donkey kong land 1-3 and donkey kong country 1 gbc version lets make a month of donkey kong and game and watch gallery 3 and super mario bros deluxe
Wow, I get to spend money this week! Lol. Mario Super Circuit, Mario Kart 8 DLC, Bit Trip Runner 2 discount, and Pokemon Trading Card Game for me!
@andrew20 Agreed, I want all of those too!
@farore311 Sadly, that's unlikely to happen in the same week as the Smash Bros launch. I'll count ourselves lucky if we see the trilogy by the end of this year.
TCG downloading. I mean done downloading. 49 blocks. Not much to it.
Awesome, no Golden Sun.... this is just getting silly.
Also... why Mario Kart... they just released the DLC to Mario Kart 8..... What is with NoA? Also, there is no multiplayer for it... I think NoA has gone full silly.
Please stop using offensive slurs here — TBD
I'd buy bit.trip runner 2 but I'm still catching up with some physical games and the internal hard drive in my Wii U is almost full. Nothing for me this week except for the MK8 DLC
Downloading Pokémon TCG immediately. I've been asking for months for them to bring over the European VC games, and they're finally doing it. Slowly, but surely.
Tengami is a must-buy this week! Two David Wise soundtracks on the Wii U in the same year? We are truly blessed this Thanksgiving season!
What about the Retro City Rampage update on Wiiware?
Just the MK8 dlc for me. I got a chance to try a little of it before work and now im dieing to go home and play it XP
MK8 dlc! I'm really surprised by how soon it's out. I thought it would be dragging on till the end of November....but now that I think about it...it came out today to not interfere with smash bros. Hee hee hee. Clever.
I'll get Tengami...as soon as I can get the point cards to get it.
MK8 DLC started downloading this morning when I was leaving for work. Also getting MK Super Circuit and Pokemon TCG, and maybe Bit Trip Runner as well. Waiting for review of Tengami
The MK8 DLC is an incredible deal and the tracks are every bit as good as those on the disc. If you have MK8, you should absolutely buy this DLC. If you don't have MK8, then buy it and then get the DLC.
Super Circuit is a solid game, though Mario Kart has never been as good a handheld title as a console one. The main issue with this one back in the day was that it was even more difficult to set up multiplayer games than it would be later on MKDS and MK7. The mechanics and tracks are all very good, though.
@Fededx The sale starts tomorrow.
WHAT? MKSC? I MUST HAVE!
But i want to keep some money for smash DLC :<
I will greatly consider it. Im willing to walk down the path to 3 star every cup in the game.
I wonder how good does the GBA games look on Wii U?
Are they indeed color corrected?
What controllers can you use for GBA games?
Dunno if to get it since I haveit on the SP. But playing it properly on the big screen would be awesome.
Also bit trip runner 2 for 5$? I think im going to bite in and get Super CIrcuit Later.
@ThomasBW84
Could you please add that Pixel Paint is now available in Canada? I know I wasn't the only Canadian looking for it.
@dougphisig Yeah the 3DS had gotten pretty much nothing of value lately. It's getting pretty discouraging.
Pokemon TGC for me.
Pokemon TCG for now, I will try to get the Mario Kart 8 DLC when it gets closer to the other DLC release...or when my family is getting to me around Thanksgiving/Christmas.
Hyrule and F-Zero tracks are great, but Warios Gold Mine and Rainbow Road SNES are easier than the original tracks!! Wario`s Gold Mine is one of my fav tracks in Mario Kart wii... Too bad! :/
Downloaded Tengami but I want Keflings too.
Imakuni's PSYDUCK is now confused!
The MK8 dlc is fabulous.
@ikki5 But Mario Kart Super Circuit allows you to experience the side Nintendo pretty much ignored in terms of Mario Kart 8 retro tracks (i.e. SNES and GBA). Yes, I know SNES Rainbow Road is in the Triforce Cup but that was already a retro track 3 years ago with MK7.
Yes MK8 DLC feels great so far ive only played the EGG CUP, characters feel great along with the updates !
Free Code for Pokemon demo ORAS in Canada . i played the demo already so i hope this code will make someone happy. A05PJMEW1PHR22MP wow its written mew in my code maybe it is hidding something ^^ . have fun time to go play pokemon TCG
HEY Nintendo why no Golden Sun 2 in North America? Doesn't it take longer for EU games in general... GS needs more love!
In other news, another piece of Golden Sun music (one on Norfair and the other on Palutena's Temple) was found in Smash 4 with still no sign of any other GS representation.......
Curiouser and Curiouser!
Holy crap ImDiggerDan commented.
It's all about mario kart this week! I've already ran through all the maps a few times, They're all pretty good! But does anyone else feel like they might be alot shorter then most of the original mario kart 8 courses? or is that just me? hmmm...
@Grumblevolcano
yeah but... Mario Kart against CPU is boring. If I bought that, I'd play for 2-3 hours, beat everything and then be bored and never touch it again. Give a multiplayer Mario Kart and I play that for hours with friends.
Looks like it will probably be the Mario Kart dlc for me this week though if I didn't already have Bit Trip on Xbox I would definitely pick up this version for that price!
No love for Lego? (I know people buy that at retail)
HEY Nintendo why no Golden Sun 2 in North America? Doesn't it take longer for EU games in general..
Nope. America and Europe are independent of each other and while they may have the same list of games to release, each usually chooses different games from that list in the same week. You'll get it later sometime. And we'll get Castlevania and Mario Advance later sometime.
Why oh why can' we have a new Pokemon TCG for 3DS and WiiU? NFC in the cards and all it coud be epic lets get it together Ninendo.
If you haven't bought Runner 2 by now, you should at that price!
Sonic boom getting no love! **goes back to playing fantasy life**
@nesvc

its right here
@ogo79 lmao!!
Bubble Bobble is on the Wii VC. Just buy that version and upgrade later.
I bought both Sonic Boom games. Both are decent fun. Maybe my standards are just low.
@joey302
Downloaded MK8 DLC and Tengami, paid half price for the latter thanks to the soon-to-be-dead DDP credit I got for downloading Smash.
They need to come out with some good stuff before end of year. DDP + eshop card sales = need to buy as much as I can!
And seconding bubble bobble! That and master blaster id love to see on wii u VC
Oh and also super mario 3 errr I mean dk trilogy!
@ogo79 on a more serious note it is out on wii u vc in japan along with a ton of other square enix games! not sure y we don't have em here in the usa yet! i think maybe cause noa has their heads up their donkeys!!!
@joey302 or maybe because SE is a Japanese company and just because they are in Japan, Nintendo cannot just release them where ever they want if SE owns the IP.
I'll be looking into Runner 2. I'll get the combo MK8 dlc packs, hopefully by Christmas.
Don't forget the "DX" update for "Retro City Rampage DX" on WiiWare.
@ikki5 of course they own the IP but it didn't stop them from posting all those games and more on the wii shop. What's more baffling is they own all the taito classics (space invaders etc) too and have a few on wii u japan but none here at all. And while they are a Japanese co they also publish plenty of retail games in the states like tomb raider, thief and many others. And while Nintendo doesn't own these games they should be pushing 3rd party vc support hard so we are not subjected to one vc game a week and have some variety and choice! And where are u sega????
I want Bubble Bobble for 3ds.
@antipop621 I'm enjoying it too. I'll admit wasn't expecting them to be a challenge and the dialogue super cheesy yet still funny.
@Lasermaster123 This all of this. Not even a single trophy or an Assist Trophy either?
@Windy I don't get the hate for it? Was l is it cause people expected it to be the best freaking game ever that it had to be better than everything else? Wait you have Fantasy Life too? Would you like to play? :3
Hope Bit.trip Runner2 is gonna be on sale in EU as well soon..
@ogo79 why has that not come to the 3ds vc yet
@joey302 & @andrew20
its all about balance.
if you think business sense, all you have to do is write it off as "they have their reasons" lol
Oh my God! I forgot about the Pokemon TCG! Imma get that ASAP!
Going to download MK Super Circuit as well as the MK 8 DLC.
Well, what do you know: I actually got the Mario Kart DLC! Already played both cups with my brother, and we both had a blast with them. Can't wait until the second pack is released!
@ModestFan93
Nope nothing at all. Isaac currently has no trophy in Smash Bros 4 neither an assist trophy. Websites like GameXplain which received a really early copy have stated that they haven't found any hidden AT and no news of Isaac in the trophy section either.
Curiously, the Overworld theme from Dark Dawn was found as an unlockable (and new) track on Palutena's temple whereas the Golden Sun Battle Theme Remix was already seen returning on Norfair.
Also Isaac is a possible combination for the "randomly" generated games but this is not that significant considering Isaac is not such an uncommon name. Even the name Krool was available in Brawl but K. Rool is still not playable.
