Really wish they'd bring the oracle games over to Wii U, or we'd get definitive word that GBC games are just never ever coming to Wii U, so we know. I actually have them as cartridges, but would love a more "permanent" copy (which is generously assuming Ninentdo goes modern with digital games in the near future, and we all know what assuming does...)
I almost dread Smash DLC. The whines and rants from people who's favorite was a DLC character will last beyond this universe and into the next. We'll have a game where 2 million people brought it, but 5 million are not buying the DLC and burning their copies because they don't want to pay for a character they loved that should have been free and was withheld b/c Nintendo has lost their way and turned into EA.
I however am looking forward to the 3DS version, and I was going to pass on it initially. DLC or not I plan to play as it is something to do on my lunch break that I seem to never take...
As nice as these are, I will be waiting for the new 3DS (what is the official name now? 3DS+ Super 3DS? blah!). I was planning on picking up the SSB4 3DS, but with the announcement of the new system, I think I will hold off.
Article doesn't say Wii U isn't getting DLC, just not getting a season pass. I'd love a clarification.
However, consider the Arkham Origins Season Pass was refunded, then it gives you 2 scenarios:
1) Nintendo paid for refund, and after being burned by WB, is being tougher on their Season Pass, and therefore, WB opted to not try. 2) WB paid for refund, and their beancounters said no-go on another Season Pass for Wii U.
It is sad that we can get leaks about SSB4 roster, but can't get the details on inside-the-industry items, as I'd really like to know.
I'm one of the people that got the arkham origins season pass, then got it refunded.
Also I am someone that brought the 4 Injustice characters, and never saw the final 2.
They don't get 3 strikes with me. I may buy the game bc my daughter likes to play it, but they can keep their half-explicative DLC.
I guess it is popular to blame Nintendo, and maybe it is even correct. If that is the case these devs need to lay it on the line and spell out in public what the problems are, because otherwise is just looks lazy, greedy, and/or incompetent.
Each time I watch one of these I bounce between "these are actually ppl that like games and such, and just don't have any chemistry" to "these 2 are horrible actors".
I just got the notice of the sale from my Wii U gamepad. First time I have been sitting by it at 9am on a Thursday apparently as I had no idea it would "wake up" that way.
Sadly I likely have all the classic Nintnedo games on the VC that I would want, so the sale won't do much for me. Hopefully those that are holding out pick something up though.
@E_Blackadder Tell me about it! The hype machine has turned the 3DS version into a game I was ignoring into a likely day 1 buy. My plan is to secretly get good at Smash 4 on my lunch breaks at work so when the Wii U version comes out, I can shameless dominate people and act like it is just natural talent!
I was going to pick up the smah themed 3DS, looks like I will just hold off and grab this when it comes out.
I hope not too many games will "need" the new model, as it really is a slap in the face to a lot of 3DS owners. I wonder if this is a tactic from Nintendo to "stall" the end of the 3DS cycle in order to make it sync up with the end of the Wii U cycle, and then give us the combo console (which I think many of us suspect is coming).
As nice as these are, they really need some kind of sandbox game to put them in. From a figure collecting standpoint I'll get 6 right off (however as was mentioned before, I will likely take a sale-wait attitude at first), but for games, they need something to play them in. This is my fear of this concept: it bombs because Nintendo is using it as high priced DLC, and you don't have much to "do" with the characters.
Nintendo would do well to make sports games that are heavily amiibo focused. EA has a death grip on sports franchises. It would be great to make, say, a mushroom kingdom baseball team, or an American football team with bowser, DK, etc as your defensive line, using stock characters and your amiibos. I'm really amazed Nintendo hasn't got a game for the amiibo's to play in yet, it just seems to obvious.
As for price, if there were 5 uses for each figure on arrival, I could see the higher price. At one (that we know of) it seems really steep.
Looks like they finally pushed me over to buying the 3DS version!
Is it correct that the movesets and whatnot are identical between the 2 versions? If so then I will be able to practice for ~3 months before the Wii U version arrives!
Picked this up last week because of nostalgia and I was not disappointed. This was a great game to play with friends back in the day, and I had forgotten how outright evil this game was in certain spots. Yet another game that either reminds me of how bad I have become at some of these games, but just like riding a bike I start to remember the little tricks and spots to avoid. Hoping to see Rtype show up as I have always heard about it but never played it.
Awesome! I can gripe about the VC here as well as in the weekly release notes!
However I am 100% certain I played ambition on a nes as this was circa 1990, so I was surprised to see it as snes release. I may pick this up as this was the first strategy game of its type that I remember playing on a console, even if it is a snes one and not NES.
@TheAdza What I was hoping to see from Amiibo and MK8 was costume unlocks or related character unlocks. Say Peach amiibos get you a SM3DW fire flower or boomerang Peach, Bowser unlocks drybones bowser or bowser jr, Luigi Amiibo may unlock Professor E Gadd, etc etc. I'm curious to see where they go with Amiibo, but I feel like there will be a lot of missed opportunities.
I am fine with Mario Kart venturing into the realm of Smash Kart. I actually think of it as a natural evolution, even though I would PREFER to see it stick with the residents of the mushroom kingdom (such as... King Boo...) I know there are plenty of other characters with appeal, so I welcome Smash Kart with open arms, and wouldn't be surprised if MK9 or MK10 turns into a full blown, unashamed Smash Kart (if that isn't the direction of MK8, which I think it is).
As to this whole completeness debate, why do people expect the digital.. concept for lack of a better word, to disappear in 20 years? I fully expect there to be some system in place 2 decades from now to have access to your purchases (if the company is still around) or frankly to still have access myself (flash drives tend to last awhile). Who is going to keep their Game Discs and not also keep the flash drives with all of their eshop purchases? Am I the only one that has a full backup of their eshop purchases? Grated, this means Nintendo has to be a bit more modern with the NNID, but in 20 years, they should be there
I always think I am a crotchety old gamer that hates change, until I come to these forums. Thanks for making me feel young and hip all of you geezers I'll kindly get off your lawn!
Isn't the most obvious quote for this "first patch nerfs link!" Do they not make nerf swords in the uk or Did Nintendo life's joke writers take the day off?
I remember at a previous job a long time ago a lady brought in oranges the Boy Scouts had sold her, and wanted them tested for cyanide because she thought someone was trying to poison her. I would be more afraid of those oranges than these peaches. However being from a state that grows peaches, I am inclined to continue any boycott or whatever is going on in order to make my former home state money! I'm also going to say with 100% certainty that people who eat these peaches will die one day! It's an unpleasant fact!
Hmm I wouldn't mind boomerang Rosalina as another DLC
If Wario Mines are 1 of the 8 retro tracks (assuming 4/4 splits of new/retro) I wonder what the other 7 could be. MK7 had some really great original tracks I thought.
No king boo, but we get another mario and peach clone? Bah! I'm lukewarm to non-mario family being in the game, but that's ok. In spite of this being the internet, I'm not going to rage about something like that. Perhaps a sign of amiibo implementation?
Still will pick it up and enjoy it as I think high quality is going to be a given. Good to see warrio mines that's a good track IMHO.
Apparently like many on here I am financially able to afford them all if need be, yet also like many, I just don't have the time. I currently have wii u and a good PC, so ps4 is on my radar and maybe even xbone if it had a few non-shooter exclusives worth my time. However, my (admittedly old) experience is that console ports to PC are horrid so I expect to get ps4 for a few high profile titles.
That said, Nintendo would do well to have the smash bros GameCube controller combo also work with wii u virtual console. I am NOT buying a classic controller, but I am buying that, and if it works (believe it when I see it) then I may throw some money at the wii VC.
It seems like every other week something is pushing me closer to picking this up for the 3ds. Also thanks to all who pointed out the 3ds could play mp3. I seriously had no idea (and recently my iPod died).
Isn't this game out in japan? Shouldn't there be full roster confirmations, mode confirmations, etc etc by now? This stuff is usually done in days for some US releases!
Wasn't the twitter translation only ruling out online co-op? I'm not really sure on that but would be nice to know, and it should be known by now bc of the japan release!
Must be much ado about nothing week here on Nintendo Life!
I predict this dlc will have a lot of ppl trying the cars at first, a few may latch onto one as a favorite, then they will eventually meld into the pack and go unnoticed.
I really don't get the comments that defy math with concepts of nobody wanting the dlc, then expecting everyone to use the cars that they don't want... If this is universally hated then the only ones that will use it will be people hoping to get under other racer's skins. I think they are ugly, I will stick with my 4 wheeler!
@SockoMario I was thinking the same thing. 2013 was a great year for 3ds games, so it's hard to expect another so strong. I've only picked up 3 new games this year and it doesn't look like I will get abymore this year. I think I got 6 or 7 last year for 3ds.
Nintendo knows likely from the wii era which VC games will make money for the time invested in the port and which won't. Why they put all the games at the same price point now is beyond me. Make the junk NES games (of which there are plenty) junk prices.
However there are many highly regarded games yet to hit the wii u VC. Put a game like that out, then put the other games in that genre on sale.
Lastly, we all know the garbage releases for VC. If Nintendo insists on putting them out on wii u, at least put another game that isn't garbage out with it. Want to release dk jr math? Fine. At least give us blaster master that same week.
Ugh there is zero reason to go back to the Wii already for a remaster. All the great things I have heard about gc games, and the low chance we will see them on VC, they should be the focus. WWHD was great so I will certainly check the next one out. Of the list I would pick the darkness game as I've never heard of it, but it seems to be well regarded.
Thanks NA, I didn't want to buy 6 mega man games all at once...
Let me throw in another "buy scram kitty" plug. Great and unique game. If you are on the fence, can't argue with a sale, now can you!
Will definitly pick up life force next week so at least I know I have something coming. Still waiting for bubble bobble and blaster master as my 2 remaining insta-buy wii u VC purchases.
That dk jr math may be something my daughter would like.... But not at 4.99. Nintendo needs to work on the pricing structure of the VC something fierce.
Much ado about absolutely nothing. Fraternal twins, you play as one, the other gets kidnapped, blah blah blah eventual reckoning. That took 5 seconds to think up, and it could be done well without it smacking of being shoehorned into the series to satisfy some P.C. nonsense, which I think is where most take issue.
Nice clip, but considering the rather light 3rd party support, that's a rather light view of what amounts to nearly 2 years of games (since we are going back to SM3DW. The only positive is I am hunkering down and clearing my Wii backlog, hopefully before Hyrule Warriors releases.
I think one's primary concern with releases is how much time one has. If I had the free time I had 20 or even 10 years ago, I would likely need 2 systems + PC to keep up with games. Nowadays, the games outpace my free time, and just keeping up with Wii U and 3DS (when travelling) is enough for me.
Skylanders and Infinity have a game-world in which to play with figures. So far, figures are just (we think) expensive DLC. I am looking forward to seeing what they do with the figures, but if there isn't a core sandbox game, they will likely flop, when compared to infinity and skylanders.
@sinalefa I agree. Even with Shovel Knight and Guacamelee I consider Scram Kitty my Indie game of the year (so far) based on gameplay and originality. Really a fun, unique game that I hope to see a sequel for in the future.
@Steven1094 I don't think we've seen the full roster yet. There was a 4chan character roster leak floating around that looks rather neat, and I hope it turns out to be true. We should know by ~August 10th or so with the Japan release. It would take a sub 5/10 score on multiple sites to turn me away from this game, and seeing the quad-9's already from famitsu makes me happy
This article falls into the "too soon" category. Why even have this except as a click-bait article before the direct so people can recycle the same complains as the previous thread? Thank you @rjejr for getting to the real point: why is this info coming so late? tHAT is what worried me most about the game!
I am more annoyed with the fact I used my reward to get NES remix 1, after giving up on a physical release, only to have it show up later. NES remixes have always been on my radar as a phayical hope, and eventually one has to give up. As far as a true Nintendo strategy goes, I think first poster got it: retail space filler upper!
I do believe this gets to the bigger problem with retail vs dl, which is preference for a physical copy that can be sold or kept a long time vs digital copy that may one day become defunct due to a system crash. A true account based system by Nintendo that isn't console bound would likely get a lot more people interested in the eshop. I say that, though, when I have spent over $300 on eshop since wii u release, so perhaps I am not as picky as I should be.

Re: Nintendo Confirms amiibo Launch Range of 12 Figurines
As nice as these are, they really need some kind of sandbox game to put them in.
Re: Nintendo Unleashes An Awesome Trailer Showing Off Upcoming Wii U Exclusives
Nice clip, but considering the rather light 3rd party support, that's a rather light view of what amounts to nearly 2 years of games (since we are going back to SM3DW. The only positive is I am hunkering down and clearing my Wii backlog, hopefully before Hyrule Warriors releases.
I think one's primary concern with releases is how much time one has. If I had the free time I had 20 or even 10 years ago, I would likely need 2 systems + PC to keep up with games. Nowadays, the games outpace my free time, and just keeping up with Wii U and 3DS (when travelling) is enough for me.
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Ambitious amiibo Plans - Pros and Cons
Skylanders and Infinity have a game-world in which to play with figures. So far, figures are just (we think) expensive DLC. I am looking forward to seeing what they do with the figures, but if there isn't a core sandbox game, they will likely flop, when compared to infinity and skylanders.
Re: Dakko Dakko Confirms Development of Update for Scram Kitty and his Buddy on Rails
@sinalefa I agree. Even with Shovel Knight and Guacamelee I consider Scram Kitty my Indie game of the year (so far) based on gameplay and originality. Really a fun, unique game that I hope to see a sequel for in the future.
Re: Feature: Hyrule Warriors - Everything We Know So Far
@Steven1094 I don't think we've seen the full roster yet. There was a 4chan character roster leak floating around that looks rather neat, and I hope it turns out to be true. We should know by ~August 10th or so with the Japan release. It would take a sub 5/10 score on multiple sites to turn me away from this game, and seeing the quad-9's already from famitsu makes me happy
Re: Feature: Hyrule Warriors - Everything We Know So Far
You left at 2 closely guarded secrets in the game that, judging from just about every comments section, many people do not know:
1) this game is made by koei tecmo with Nintnedo oversight, not a true Nintendo game.
2) there are multiple difficulty levels that range from stupid monsters waiting to die to smart monsters ready to annihilate you.
Re: Poll: Is Online Co-Op a Major Miss in Hyrule Warriors, or is Local Multiplayer Enough?
This article falls into the "too soon" category. Why even have this except as a click-bait article before the direct so people can recycle the same complains as the previous thread? Thank you @rjejr for getting to the real point: why is this info coming so late? tHAT is what worried me most about the game!
Re: Talking Point: Deconstructing Nintendo's Retail Releases of Wii U eShop Titles
