Re: Soapbox: Why Do We Want More Games When We've Already Got Too Many?

Saego

The problem with my backlog is that most games I want to finish, are the games that kind of dissapointed me or were overshadowed by other platforms.

Take for example Metroid 2 remake on the 3DS. Bought it at launch, tried it once for an hour and then never picked it up again, until a few weeks ago. It's not a bad game, but it doesn't succeed in holding my interest either.

I also really don't enjoy playing on my 3DS anymore now that I have a Switch. Maybe it's because I rather have all my Nintendo games on one platform (which is ofcourse a impossible thing to wish for), or that the screen is just too small, or perhaps that I feel like the visuals are very outdated.

I also built a new PC two months ago, which is a beast. Which means I want to play the newest games on Steam to discover the 4K power my PC has to offer, which results in buying new games and a growing backlog.

Ah well, I'm getting older now, and my study and work are getting more demanding, which means it will be almost impossible to finish my backlog. I don't mind that; I rather play games I fully enjoy than feel obligated to finish a list with games I mostly don't really enjoy.

Re: Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn Is Actually Compatible With All 3DS Systems

Saego

@Heavyarms55 But it does something new, even though it might not be the changes you think are worth it.

The 3D is better (new), all games run smoother (new), new buttons, new sticks (for me the reason to buy a new one). Might not be the whole 3DS library that supports all these new features, but Monster Hunter runs great and a stick to control the camera is great.

If you don't like it, then don't buy it (day one).

Re: Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn Is Actually Compatible With All 3DS Systems

Saego

@Heavyarms55 Honestly, I think that making games exclusive for a special type of 3DS is very stupid. It's not a new handheld, no, it's a new type of 3DS.

Aside from the point that you're splitting the 3DS owners, there are so many ways to make a new type special without putting exclusives on them (which will sell poorly, because most 3DS owners don't have the New models for example).

If you look at the PS4Pro and Slim, every game is still playable. The Pro just runs them way smoother. No need to split the PS4 owners, because they can all still play the same games.

I think Nintendo did great with the N3DS, although there are some issues with it ofcourse. Better 3DS, better screen, another new stick, good and new positioned shoulder buttons. The new CPU is nice and although not that much stronger compared to the old one, it does run significantly better.

This upgrade is only for those who want a better version of the 3DS, like me. It's not a complete new handheld which can run exclusive game and it shouldn't try to be.

Re: Guide: The Best Pokémon Games - Every Mainline Pokémon Game Ranked

Saego

Ranking the Pokémon games for me is very difficult. Played them all, starting with yellow. While Silver is my favourite, I really enjoyed Sun, Platinum and Emerald just as much. The only one I didn't really like is XY and B&W(2), but I think I was just very Pokémon tired after. I should give them another try.

Re: Switch Pro Controller Has Just Under 500,000 Registrations On Steam

Saego

I used to play with my old xbox 360 controller (with wire) until a few months ago, since I discovered that Steam supported the Pro Controller.

The Pro Controller is already good on the Switch, but just as good on the PC. One of the best buys I made, I even use it on my laptop.

I also tried the xBox One (Elite) and Steam Controller, but they are either too expensive or they just don't feel right.

Re: Super Mario Party For Nintendo Switch Won't Support Handheld Mode

Saego

@Nukuleardawg This is not click bait at all. Yes, the whole 'SMP doesn't support pro controllers and handheld' makes sense. But there are tons of comments who apparently didnt't have the brain to think that a game with motion controls can't be used in handheld.

Aside from those who say it will support handheld: no, it doesn't. Yes, you can still bring your Switch everywhere, but you need to have a stable platform to put your Switch on if you want to play. Which also makes sense.

I don't see what NL does wrong here.

Re: Soapbox: Why I'm Not Excited About Playing NES Games On The Nintendo Switch

Saego

I'll probably just start them up once, and then never touch them again. But honestly, I don't care at all about these NES games.
I'll pay only 6 euros each year for online play and cloud saves. I don't need more than that, although I don't mind having free GC, N64 or Wii games ofcourse, but it's not something I really need / expect for that amount of money.

Re: Nintendo Switch Online Will Start On 19th September, More Info Coming In Direct

Saego

Since a lot of people don't know why Nintendo has literally the right to charge people for their game services (aside from that they own ofcourse the game and their rights), I'll explain servers and game services.

So generally we have two kind of servers: peer to peer and dedicated servers. Dedicated servers are servers which are hosted by a computer who doesn't partake in the game. There can be a player who can adjust the server settings, but that's it.

Then we have peer to peer (which Nintendo uses), which also has two forms. One is where one player hosts the server, while partaking in a game. The other players connect to that player.
The other is called a mesh, where every player (peers) send out information to eachother, but also receive.

It make sense that dedicated servers cost money, while peer to peer servers doesn't (since the servers are then hosted by players).

HOWEVER, there is more. There needs to be a way that these players are being grouped up, there IP adress needs to be shared, their needs to be (fair and equal) matchmaking, leaderboards, player progress, and more. All these kind of services are being run by Nintendo.

So yes, while the servers may be free, Nintendo her services isn't.

Re: Niantic Reports 35 Percent Increase In Active Pokémon GO Usage Since May

Saego

@KingBowser86 No, the reason you play Pokemon (GO) is for fun. It's the main goal, side goals can be completion or strong Pokémon.

@Heavyarms55 I totally agree with all your points. Plus, there needs to be a way to punish those players who camp a nearby PokéGym. My girlfriend lives in a small village, where there is only one gym. There is this guy which apparently has a lot of time because everytime someone takes the gym, he takes it back. It's really annoying, because there is no other way in that village to earn coins.

Re: Belgian Government Launches Criminal Investigation Into EA Over "Illegal" FIFA Loot Boxes

Saego

@JamesR I really like the way Overwatch has done lootboxes. The gameplay is really good, and the microtransactions can all be purchased without spending real money. It also gives the player enough in game currency to buy skins / lootboxes. Those are all cosmetics too, so the lootboxes won't 'sabotage' the gameplay.

@darkswabber After the statement from Kansspelautoriteit. games as Dota 2 and NBA 2K adjusted their lootbox systems as wanted by the Dutch law. Valve stated that they weren't doing anything wrong, and that the Dutch government is to blame, which was quite a remarkable statement.

That's the latest about lootboxes from Kansspelautoriteit in the Netherlands, I think. I've heard something about PEGI, where they will put a symbol on the back of the cover which indicates that a game has lootboxes. But that's not only for the Netherlands, it's throughout Europe.

Re: Belgian Government Launches Criminal Investigation Into EA Over "Illegal" FIFA Loot Boxes

Saego

@JamesR @Anti-MatterThat's not completely true. Lootboxes are digital boxes with digital items in them, which can be purchased with real or in-game money.

I'm from the Netherlands and the sad thing about these lootboxes is that the government is more looking into lootbox addiction than gamers being ripped of by publishers who publish an almost finished game filled with microtransactions, such as DLC and lootboxes.

Re: Square Enix Announces Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition HD For Nintendo Switch

Saego

I don't understand why people are so mad about this. The original game doesn't even look great on PS4 and xBox One, with a lot of pop ups and frame rate stutters. Playing this game 4K 60FPS is impossible with the current GPU's, unless you have SLI.

Even with steady 24 fps (which is horrible) and 480P, this game wouldnt have run that well at all. This is nothing compared to Doom or Wolfenstein (2).

Plus, most people here didn't like the game, so it doesn't matter if it would be the Pocked Edition or Original on Switch, it still would be hated anyway.

Re: Nintendo Direct Delayed Due To Powerful Earthquake in Hokkaido, Japan

Saego

@BLD I'm sorry, but I don't think you get my point. It doesn't matter if it's close to their HQ, it's about what exactly happened. I'm sure that if there would be a big terrorist attack the morning before the Direct, it would have been canceled too.

Plus, we're talking about Japan here, which has been hit by a heavy typhoon, now the earthquake ánd landslides. It's not the best place to be there at the moment. We're talking about Japanase culture, which is so different (as @Yoshi87 explains) than ours.

Also, it's delayed. I'm sure we can wait a few days.

"There's a sliding scale between "Massive casualties at Nintendo HQ" and "Nintendo Direct cancelled because random man stubbed toe across world."

This is also very black and white and certainly not the case.

Re: Nintendo Direct Delayed Due To Powerful Earthquake in Hokkaido, Japan

Saego

@BLD It's just for respect. Not a lot of people died, but there are a lot of wounded people. This kind of stuff is sensitive and scary to Japanese people, because this is very real and could happen in the next few years again.

It doesn't make sense (to me) that Nintendo would air a fun Direct while their employees are not experiencing fun at all because they are scared, or perhaps they are worried about friends and family. Don't forget that Nintendo has a social media status too.

Re: Nintendo Direct Delayed Due To Powerful Earthquake in Hokkaido, Japan

Saego

@Nincompoop Honestly, that's a bad article based on a vague statement. Which 3DS sales? Those from Japan? Because that would make sense.

Aside from that, Social Media is more important than ever. Companies change, because it has to react to all kinds of external developments, but also intern developments. It's not really a fair comparison.
