I actually did just get one - I’ve been trading things in at CEX and saving up my credit. I’ve been wanting something that can emulate PS2 games and use to remote play PS4 while my wife watches TV. It’s not really something I’m gonna take out and about though, I’d need to buy a bigger bag and more power banks.

Alana, I hope you enjoy your Zero Escape sessions! I played VLR last year, Zero Time Dilemma a couple of months ago and then cycled back to where it all began in 9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors, which I’ve just finished. Haven’t had enough yet so AI: The Somnium Files is in my Switch right now. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is in my other Switch 😅 and been playing some Trails in the Sky on Vita this morning too. Plenty of epic stories on the go 🥰

I might finish Tears this weekend. Four more lightroots and 7 more shrines left, although it’s feeling like time to seek out the Demon King himself. Really loved playing this game so far.

Other than that, I’d like to play some Picross and maybe Oxenfree. And if I finish Tears, tomorrow it might be time to start Xenoblade 3 at least 🥰

Re: Random: It's Zelda, Not Beyoncé, Who's Apparently Contributing To UK Inflation

@Simon97 thanks for all your well-argued comments! And for putting me right on inflation. I’m glad you’re here bringing the knowledge 💕

I will however refer you to Sakurai re the price of games. In London, if I take my partner out to lunch it costs more than a game. A movie might cost more to make than a game - though I think that’s arguable - but a movie is done in a couple of hours, a game sticks with you longer (usually! Unless it’s Kirby’s Dream World!). People have different priorities for what they spend their money on and that’s fair enough, but for me games are very reasonably priced for the main part.

Re: Random: It's Zelda, Not Beyoncé, Who's Apparently Contributing To UK Inflation

@PtM to be fair, I think changes in average price for the top-selling titles will show change in price in general, that seems fair enough. And I think I read that there was a larger than usual number of people who bought the special edition so amount spent is possibly affected by that. But saying that a single game is responsible for “inflation” seems to wilfully ignore the other 100-odd items whose prices are tracked. I guess RRP for Tears is 20% higher than most releases, not that that’s a new thing or affecting the RRP of other first-party upcoming titles. So yeah it’s still bad journalism.

Everything else has increased in price by more, anyway! Everything has increased except my salary 😭

Re: Random: It's Zelda, Not Beyoncé, Who's Apparently Contributing To UK Inflation

I question the methodology here. Not an economist, but I don’t see the release of Tears of the Kingdom having a significant and enduring effect on the price of games in general. A short-term effect on the amount of money people spent on video games in the specific sales interval of this game, perhaps. But I don’t think that can legitimately be referred to as “inflation”. It’s spending on one thing, once. TOTK being £60 has not resulted in any change in retail price for the other big-selling games. It hasn’t changed the price if, I don’t know, fuel, groceries, heating your hot water. This is questionable journalism as far as I’m concerned, although not surprising comig from the country that invented questionable journalism

Edit: I mean from the BBC Economics Editor, not Nintendo Life, which is obvs a shining pinnacle of journalistic integrity ✌️

Re: Soapbox: Modern Zelda Bosses Are Getting Harder, But They're Nothing Compared To The Oldies

S83

I’m not sure if I’d class the older games’ bosses as hard, necessarily - but you did have to trial-and-error your way to figuring out how to hit their vulnerable spot, and it could sometimes take a chunk of time to do that. I haven’t died at the hands of a Tears of the Kingdom boss yet (although I’ve had to run from a couple of mini-bosses due to being unprepared). I don’t think it’s because I’ve gotten better at figuring out the weaknesses over the years, I think it’s because the bosses’ weaknesses are easier to figure out/they just have a lot more weaknesses… but that said, Tears has a whole lot more content than the likes of Skyward Sword or A Link Between Worlds, and if I was having to take several tries to progress I think it would put me off… I guess what I’m saying is that this balance of boss difficulty works for me (not that I’d hate a more challenging boss rush mode or something, a la Skyward Sword 👀)

Re: Poll: Will You Be Getting The New Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Switch OLED?

S83

I’m also in the boat of having resisted the Splatoon version in case a Zelda one was coming, and I’m glad I did. Also preordered the case, and I’d already got preorders for the game and amiibo at The Game Collection. My old Switch is 4 years old and I probably won’t get the Switch successor day 1 so this feels fine to me. That OLED tablet will stay in the box for a couple of weeks till I get the screen protector on it though! Hopefully will use my shiny Tears of the Kingdom joycons to play some Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters on my old Switch during the 2-week wait 🥰

Re: Talking Point: What Makes A Really Good Demo?

S83

I’m also nostalgic about the demos that used to come with magazines… the Final Fantasy 8 demo had the beach assault scene to play and the waltz cutscene. Good times. But even before then there was the practice of releasing 1/3 of a game as shareware - anyone else remember that? I played a bunch of the first 1/3 of games like Crystal Caves, Duke Nukem, Commander Keen… rarely felt motivated to buy the other chapters if I’m honest.

A good demo needs to hook you but not reveal too much. I thought the Theatrhythm demo nailed it (but I’m a longtime fan of the franchise and knew I was gonna get it anyway). The Sonic Frontiers demo was counter-productive and helped me decide not to buy it… oh, Fitness Boxing: Fist of the North Star - I played it with my partner and now she’s asking me when I’m gonna get the full game 😂 enough of a taste to know it’s fun, but with plenty of features locked until you hand over the £40

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom amiibo Goes Live On Amazon UK, Pre-Order Now

S83

That’s how much Amazon have been charging for amiibos lately 🤷‍♀️ it’s already gone up to £29.54, too. Other amiibos that I’ve found that are actually sold by Amazon (rather than a 3rd party) have been around £30 too. I’ll wait for a retailer that’s not making billions out of fleecing both customers and staff now that it’s put most of its competitors out of business, and if I miss out I miss out

Re: Where To Buy Metroid Prime Remastered On Switch

S83

I haven’t used ShopTo as their store won’t accept my debit card for some reason, but I highly rate The Game Collection. Preordered about 8 games there in the last 6 months, they’ve always arrived on release day (or the day before), plus they’ve often had an extra £5 of reward points on preorders (I used them to get about £20 off my preorder of Tears of the Kingdom 💕). Recently I ordered a second hand game but turns they didn’t have stock, and their customer service people were very nice and sorted me out with some reward points to get a bit of money off a new copy of the game instead. Much better experience than the Amazons of the world! I’ll order my copy of Metroid Prime there once I get my reward points for preorders of Theatrhythm and Octopath 2 🥰
