Mega Cat Studios and Skybound Games have revealed WrestleQuest, a brand new RPG for the Nintendo Switch. And, with a title like that, your imagination is not fooling you. This is an RPG that combines the genre with the wrestling world, and it looks like a Royal Rumble.
Coming out this summer, WrestleQuest sees you attempt to become one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. As well as your character being inspired by famous wrestlers of the '80s and '90s, many of these iconic names will also feature in the game.
To find out more, here are the details from the press release:
In WrestleQuest, players assume the role of a young wrestling hopeful, on his quest to become one of the all-time greats while he powerbombs, slams, and suplexes his way to the top. Inspired by icons like the legendary “Macho Man” Randy Savage, our hero must immerse himself in the world of professional wrestling, which will not only test his athleticism but his will and conscience too.
Throughout the game, players will experience classic turn-based RPG combat that mixes real-time action with tactical choices, as they wrestle through a richly detailed and fantastic storyline, starting out as a newcomer, before ascending the ranks and becoming the sport’s greatest star, with help from legendary wrestlers that span the ages. The pixel-art graphics and overall visual style perfectly represent the combined worlds of wrestling, toys, and action figures.
Players will meet and interact with a host of legends as they progress through their quest, including “Macho Man” Randy Savage, Booker T, Andre The Giant, Jake “The Snake” Roberts, Diamond Dallas Page, Jeff Jarrett, and many more. With tons of side missions, bonus content, and much more, this is the ultimate main event that you won’t want to miss.
We've seen wrestling combine with other video game genres before - just look to the fabulous Guacamelee!, mixing Lucha libre with Metroidvania - and we've even seen Mario enter the ring in the RPG world in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. But it looks like the turn-based combat mixed with real-time action will fully embrace the wrestling style, which we're all for.
The unique retro pixel style makes a full nelson slam, too. Not only is WrestleQuest wearing its retro RPG influence on its sleeve, but it's capitalising on our nostalgia for the merchandise craze of the time by taking inspiration from toys and action figures. Admit it, you've still got some tucked away in your loft somewhere! And you can't deny that the developers have nailed it - just take a look:
WrestleQuest doesn't have a specific release date yet, but you'll be able to sit ringside this summer when it comes to Switch. In the meantime, keep an eye on the game's website and these pages for more details.

Hmmm sounds interesting.
I'd rather have another wrastlin' game in the AKI Corp-style like Wrestlemania 2000 or Def Jam: Fight for NY, but this seems cool enough.
Citizens of wrestling
Yeah I'm totally down for this. It's properly absurd, and it's an RPG with a goal to defeat Randy Savage (and other big names).
@Magician AEW game from Yuke’s is inbound. Should scratch that itch.
This game really does look cool, love the lineup too.
I’m intrigued. If it gets some good reviews I think I’m in. I just wish we’d get fire pro on the switch. And I’m curious to see if the AEW game shows up, which will supposedly have the AKI style system.
Lol, I'm not interested in wrestling whatsoever but this game looks kind of hilarious. I might get this.
@nessisonett Is it 100% confirmed for switch? I couldn’t recall.
@Magician Same. Im gonna give the action arcade wrestling a chance the next time it has a sale. I watched some interesting reviews and gameplay vids and it seems like a more simple AKI style.
@AG_Awesome Oh, I mean probably not. But then Nintendo haven’t really had any proper wrestling games in a few gens have they? I don’t count WWE Battlegrounds (or that woeful 2K18 port) 😂
How are all these legends included? Some kind og license?
I love this. I hope there's a physical release
Okay.... I want it. Even without official names, the likenesses of Jake Roberts, Randy Savage and Andre the Giant are enough to win my heart.
Looks somewhat interesting. A little odd though.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Wrasslin rpg, a genre I never knew I needed
Weird concept, brother. But whatcha gonna do?!
Okay, after watching that trailer I can say it actually looks fun. Might buy it!
I find myself wondering why this hasn't been done before!
I'm interested because they are using the real people instead of generics that look like them.
@Magician The AEW game that's coming out is supposed to be an homage to No Mercy and the AKI/Yukes team is working on it.
@nessisonett Is that game coming to Switch? Those AKI games were the best!
I don't love the pixel art but I am on board with this otherwise. Would love to see more non-traditional RPGs.
I’m in for that. Sounds like a new idea, and the fact that these guys have actual wrestlers makes me psyched.
I see so instead of fighting monsters dragons and what have you with magic and swords you'll be fighting wrestlers with wrestling moves to be the best.
I got carried away with my imagination there didn't I 😅
A pro wrestling RPG, the idea sounds interesting and the inspiration of the characters look nice. Definitely would keep an eye on this one, seems more interesting than the garbage that was WWE 2K22 and that lame upcoming AEW wrestling game that probably may or may not exist.
The words “turn-based RPG” are an instant turn off for me. I never could get into that genre no matter how many times I tried.
The aesthetic is fantastic. I'll wait to see more gameplay.
Not into wrestling at all or those types of games, but...they turned wrestling into a turn-based RPG?...Huh...
RIP Scott Hall
@AG_Awesome Yesssss, best wrestling game by far
I'm sure there will be a lot to LOL in this one.
@Sinton A brand new one I would imagine.
I guess we're not going to address the elephant in the room. So this is (with enough handshaking and pay off, capitalism at its finest) what Retromania Wrestling is supposed to be. Hmmm.
This looks great! As a fan of wrestling this really strikes me as something that could be great, if done right. I love the voice-over, haha
This looks great! Perfect for Switch, too.
