Nintendo recently announced the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass, the DLC that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has been sorely needing for quite some time.

The Booster Course Pass will come in separate waves all the way up until the end of 2023, with the first wave coming in March.

It will cost $24.99 USD / $32.99 CAN / £22.49 but comes at no additional cost if you own a paid Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership.

That final point has gotten people talking. The NSO Expansion Pack has been a bone of contention for some time, with some people arguing that it doesn't offer particularly good value for money, especially when compared to what Sony and Microsoft offer with their monthly subscription services.

VCG's Chris Scullion – who also contributes to this very site – popped the question to his Twitter followers:

It would seem that Nintendo's plan for the NSO Expansion Pack is to add value over time. First, it was the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Happy Home Paradise DLC (alongside N64 and Mega Drive games) which were expected to lure you in, but now, with the addition of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass, there's even more reason to upgrade.

Even so, given that so many reacted quite negatively to the arrival of the Expansion Pack, it might take a bit more than 48 re-heated Mario Kart tracks to change their minds.
