In a post on Twitter, Sega's official Japanese account announced an upcoming broadcast for Friday, June 3rd at 12pm BST / 7am ET, which looks set to unveil a brand new project.
Details are slightly thin on the ground at the moment, but guests include Hiroyuki Miyazaki, who has a long-running history with the company, along with Yosuke Okunari, who again boasts a wide range of credits with SEGA.
Translated, the tweet reads:
\ Urgent notice! /
Live broadcast to announce Sega's new project will be delivered from 20:00 on June 3 (Friday)
Appearance is [Hiroyuki Miyazaki] [Yosuke Okunari] …… Does that mean...?
The accompanying image of a rather chocolatey looking Mega Drive controller hints that the broadcast is likely going to contain information on a retro-focused project. Perhaps a Mega CD Mini? We're conscious not to get our hopes up too much with this one, but who knows what will be announced!
Will you be tuning in to watch the broadcast on June 3rd? What do you think it will unveil? Let us know with a comment!

We’ve already had a mega drive mini so it can’t be that. I would set sights low as we’ll probably be disappointed in whatever it is. Remember how underwhelming it was when the ridiculously small game gear micros were unannounced. Maybe it will be more useless non working add-Ons
Q : What do you think it will unveil?
Me : Um.... A cooking show about how to make Chocolate croissant with SEGA controller looking ? (looking at that croissant picture above)
Please no more MegaDrive / Genesis, we've had it ported, mini'd, compilations already, give me a Dreamcast mini you cowards!
If they’re looking to get people hyped up, that sorry-looking thing resembling a Mega Drive controller is doing nothing for me.
Sonic is coming on ACNH
Mega Drive again 🙄 If it was a Saturn or Dreamcast controller I'd be interested
It's probably something quirky and cool that maybe wouldn't be appreciated in the West (like the Game Gear Micros.)
Sega is ceasing game development and opening a bakery.
There’s been a Play Station mini, so a Saturn mini could be feasible. Though the image suggests Mega Drive.
Maybe a mega drive mini 2 or more likely another MD compilation for consoles.
Master System Mini? No? probably not.
Metal Sonic playable in Sonic Origins?
SEGA Bakery NFTs
That's the worst looking Mega Drive controller cake I've ever seen.
That chocolate blob is pre-emptively giving me a stomach ache.
I just want more info on Sonic Frontiers and tbh the lack of information is quite concerning.
@Kazman2007 The Donut Lord and the Mean Bean were our clues.
I wonder if this has anything to do with Haunted Choclatier?
Chocolate covered Sega Genesis controllers. That’s gotta be it.
As far as announcement teasers go this is one of the saddest I've seen.
I'm curious. We already got a mini and many compilations so I don't think it's either of those.
Maybe the Genesis 2 and Sega is getting back into the console business???
Mega Drive Mini II, shaped like the second version of the console!!! That's the one I had as a kid, so the nostalgia might actually kill me!
@Clyde_Radcliffe I never had a Dreamcast but apparently there are some really good games on it like Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Sonic Adventure, Typing of the Dead, etc. It would be awesome to play those games on modern platforms. We've already played the Mega Drive games to death, maybe it's time for something new.
Hopefully they announce a Season 2 for AiAi's cooking show, love those!
@gb_nes_gamer A Saturn mini would be amazing if it wasn't so difficult to emulate. I should look about in etsy. Lots of modders there make nice electronics.
@HammerGalladeBro Non Fungible Treats? 😋
I'd like to see them resurrect some franchises. Or, as with Streets of Rage 4, hand them over to someone competent
@bluemujika No Saturn love?
Does Sega remember they have systems other than the Mega Drive/Genesis?
Come on Dreamcast 2!
Another Sega Genesis collection maybe. Y'all know Sega just could not let go of the Genesis for long, they will milk it for all it's worth.
@RubyCarbuncle (doing my best Jesse Anderson impression)
They’re probably trying to wait until the finished product comes around, like they did for Origins. Be patient, Ruby.
Mega Drive 2 Mini or new tech that allows for them to beam Mega Drive games directly into your brain.
Either way, MOR PORTS!
@Roger_Brazil He would simply be that brother of Sable & Able then since they are hedgehogs already.
I make this argument all the time, but there are no good SEGA CD games. (I owned the thing when it came out, so I know!). The FMV stuff is all crap, most of the games are actually cartridge ports with (arguably) better music. There are only four interesting games: Snatcher, Sonic CD, Lunar 1 & 2. Of these, Sonic CD holds up best and will be released very soon on Switch. As Snatcher and Lunar they actually have better Sega Saturn versions with a big caveat though: they are only available in Japanese. The PSX has the more accessible English versions.
@RubyCarbuncle
I’m not concerned, they probably just don’t wanna announce anything big too far out from release, like Sonic Origins. If they had announced story and gameplay details last year they could end up being wrong as a lot can change in a year.
The only thing they did wrong imo was announce the darn thing way too early, they should’ve skipped Sonic Central, then kept everything else the same as The Game Awards trailer was a way better teaser.
New games for Megadrive.. yes please:)
@AstraeaV I'd actually love that, metal sonic is a personal fave.
I know what I'd like, but I think this is a non-project, like the GG mini or bloody NFTs.
@thinkhector fully agree
@bluemujika I would buy a Dreamcast mini in a heartbeat. I probably wouldn’t even look what games are on it before pulling the trigger.*
*Just kidding, Sega. Please put a ton of good games on it like you did with the Genesis mini. 😬
...Sega Saturn Mini, perhaps?
Edit: Eh, close enough.
